VASHI: In what was the first instance of its kind in the city, Times Group Books, launched a book on ‘Simplified Financial Management’ written by Vinay Bhagwat, a noted educationist and Founder Director of Siddharth Education Services Ltd at Crossword Bookstores Ltd., Inorbit Mall, Vashi on Saturday 28 June 2014 in presence of  a knowledgeable gathering. The book which is a concerted effort to provide the best learning material on Financial Management in a simplified manner has been an extract of the curriculum pursued for all professional courses like CA, CA and CMA as well as MBA and others, to simplify the intricacies of Financial Management and reach out to the larger section of the populace – students, professionals or otherwise.
The author who with impressive qualifications like MCom, LLM, ACA, ACS, and a Practising Company Secretary with more than a decade of experience, and was responsible for the development of Siddharth Academy from its inception to its pan Indic locations today spoke in length about his book and answered the queries of his readers in presence of Geeta Awasthi, Manager, Times Group Books and Vinayak R Prabhu an Advisor to this venture.
“The idea was to go beyond the classroom and reach out to the masses from layman to experts from different fields who would like to know the basic of financial management and apply in to their day to day work but are hard pressed for time and would not like to be burden with lot of jargon. It can also be a handbook to gain insights on personal financial management. It took about an year of concentrated effort in order to bring out this book and am thankful to Vinayak R Prabhu who inspired me to take up this project and to Times Book Division who agreed to publish it,” shared the author Vinay Bhagwat, who has taken a path less trodden for developing talent in the fields of CA, CS and CMA through his institute.

“Times Book Division which is part of the Times of India group over the years have published and launched many books including that on finance. However, what stands out is that the book explains in a simple way the art of managing finance, be it for students, layman, workers, housewives and others who would like to understand the intricacies of finance in successful running of a business.  Finance basically means ‘The science of money’. The book speaks about principles and the methods of obtaining control of money from those who have saved it, and of administering it by those into whose control it passes i.e. from investors to the business as capital. With more than 500 odd outlets we think we are doing our best to promote such independent experts to reach out to the masses and spread awareness,” shared Geeta Awasthi, Manager, Times Group Books.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Law is above the King' that was published in Newsband

Law is above the King
An Intelligence Bureau report happened to leak. The report said that the foreign-funded non-governmental organisations were retarding India’s development. The report alleges that a “significant number of Indian NGOs funded by donors based in US, UK, Germany and Netherlands have been noticed to be using people-centric issues to create an environment, which lends itself to stalling development projects.”
Now this is a serious issue. But what is government doing about this report gathered by the Intelligence department? This particular department should be given some powers too to deal on their own with such a situation as stated by the report. But the thing is in the decades after Independence, successive Prime Ministers turned the Intelligence Bureau into a kind of private detective service for the government, charging it with surveilling everything from political opponents to routine economic activity. The Intelligence Bureau — often with little domain competence — weighs in on everything from the appointment of judges to the credentials of business houses. In most developed democracies, the law would render such activities illegal. In India, though, there are no laws — and no major party is committed to enacting one.
The intelligence community of every country has to watch all foreigners and their local agents, especially those bearing cash and gifts. Visas granted by a country have to be specific for tourism, business, teaching, technical work, and so on. When they are not specific, the visitors would indulge in exciting local people against causes of interest to them while it should be up to the local people to determine and participate in local issues. Likewise foreign funds received should be fully accounted for lest they be used against the country for political changes and subversion. It is the intelligence community’s job to watch all these types for the nation and the government should not interfere with their duties.
The persons recruited in the Intelligence Bureau have thorough knowledge on the basics of their surveillance activities and are capable of conveying their findings to the concerned authorities at the appropriate time. But what can the intelligence people do if their warnings based on their intelligent findings are either ignored or the follow up action taken by the authorities concerned lags the time frame making the existence of Intelligence Bureau unwanted? The main problem in this country is that people want freedom without responsibility. This equally applies to NGOs also. This malaise has ruined the country to a large extent. Take the case of punctuality in our country. It is one of the hallmarks of discipline. But unfortunately even our Ministers are far from punctual. IB and CBI are puppets in the hands of their masters.

In the above-mentioned case, the government must 1) Order a comprehensive investigation into the sources of funding and activities of all NGOs 2) Register all unregistered / defunct NGOs so that their functioning and funding are covered by law. The IB has made some serious accusations against some individuals and NGOs and therefore its neutrality, credibility and accountability needs to be supported with clear cut evidence. Any individual or NGO that has been wrongly accused or penalized still have recourse to legal means! After all, Law is above the King.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Select apolitical persons as governors' that was published in Newsband

Select apolitical persons as governors
The National Democratic Alliance government is trying to make some Governors appointed by UPA to quit. This makes it clear that the office of Governor is politicised. In 2004, the United Progressive Alliance government removed some Governors appointed by the regime that preceded it, and the present dispensation wants to follow that precedent.
But in 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that a Governor’s removal is justifiable and there should be good, valid and compelling reasons for such a removal. The power should not be exercised arbitrarily, capriciously or unreasonably.
To avoid such wars of vendetta between current rulers and the past ones, the office of governor should be depoliticized. Only non political persons of high integrity and merit should be posted as governors.
In the last two decades with a rare exception the Governors are persons without merit who had been serving the party or family loyally or had come up through manipulating the system, no tears ought to be shed if the present lot goes too. There could be some criteria for appointments to begin with; then one may expect that there will be less arbitrary removals too
Some fundamental questions like: Is there a need for a Governor? What are his roles? Can it not be performed without a Governor but somebody else? These questions need to be revisited in my view. DMK has been vocal and perhaps the only party which called for abolition of Governor's post even though they did in inconvenient times.
The names of some BJP leaders are doing the rounds for Governor's post for some six or seven States. No doubt they are experienced and knowledgeable. But why not PM Modi make bold to break from the unhealthy past and blaze a new trail by appointing eminent apolitical persons as Governors and disarm his critics in one stroke ?

If Modi goes in for apolitical persons for Governor, he will be hailed as one who depoliticised Governor's office. The 2014 people's mandate is only for Modi. Does he have the party's mandate to usher in apolitical Governors?

Dinesh Kamath’s column ‘New movies that’ll get released in Navi Mumbai’ (Transformers – Age of Extinction and Ek Villain) that was published in Newsband

New movies that’ll get released in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
Transformers – Age of Extinction

Transformers: Age of Extinction is a 2014 American science fiction action film based on the Transformers franchise. It is the fourth installment of the live-action Transformers film series and stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role. A sequel to Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the film takes place four years after the invasion of Chicago. Like its predecessors, the film is directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. The screenplay is written by Ehren Kruger, who served as screenwriter since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This is the first film in the series to feature an entirely new cast of human characters and the first to feature the Dinobots. Returning Transformers include Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Leadfoot, and Brains.
The film has an interesting plot. The basic premise is that failed robotics engineer Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) “finds a Transformer” - Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) himself, in fact - while he’s hunting through junk. Unfortunately, the government, via Kelsey Grammer’s villainous Harold Attinger, has declared an unofficial war on the alien shape-shifters. The Earth-saving Autobots are not excluded from the search and execution crusade. Cade, his 17-year-old daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz), best friend/assistant Lucas (T. J. Miller), and Tessa’s secret lover/professional race-car driver Shane (Jack Reynor) get caught in the crossfire between Attinger’s minions – the most vicious of whom is the ruthless Savoy (Titus Welliver) – and the fleeing Autobot leader.
Meanwhile, Attinger has commissioned tech tycoon Joshua Joyce (Stanley Tucci) to create man-made and controlled Transformers via his company KSI. The aim is to use the manufactured robots as military weapons in this and all future wars, which as you can imagine is a totally flawless idea. Joyce utilizes the fallen  Decepticons, including Megatron, and several captured Autobots to reverse engineer his new-world-order machines. In a bid to end “the age of the Transformers”, and in keeping with the notion that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, Attinger has agreed to an uneasy alliance with Lockdown, a Transformer who swears allegiance to neither Autobot nor Decepticon.
Lockdown, who just may be the best and most prominent baddie this franchise has ever seen, seeks Optimus for his own purposes and cares little for the safety of the insignificant humans. To combat this new threat and protect his endangered brethren, Prime calls upon his own personal band of brothers: Bumblebee, Hound (John Goodman), Drift (Ken Watanabe), Crosshairs (John DiMaggio), and later, Brains (Reno Wilson).
Thus concludes the basic plot and the extent of the story that contains a logical through-line.

Ek Villain

Ek Villain is a romantic-thriller film directed by Mohit Suri. Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, Riteish Deshmukh makes his debut as an antagonist with this film. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures and ALT Entertainment.
The story is mostly narrated in flashbacks. The plot of the film is interesting. Guru (Sidharth Malhotra) is a silent but callous gangster in Goa working for his boss (Remo Fernandes). He is struggling with his previous aching past and is finding it difficult to come over as it comes haunting him again and again until he come across this happy-go-lucky girl Aisha (Shraddha Kapoor). She helps brining him out of his dark times of yore and finally Guru falls in love and marries her.
They shift from Goa to Mumbai to kick-start a new life but their tender life is given a jolt when Aisha is murdered in a rather suspicious manner. Filled with rage Guru is out for seeking revenge from the murderer. But finally when he comes across him, whose name is Rakesh (Retiesh Deshmukh), he finds it difficult to provide him any harm as surprisingly this murderer is apparently inoffensive and modest.
What is the past of this attacker and what probably led him to kill Aisha? Is he serial killer, a psycho or is highly obsessed with something? Mohit describes such intriguing tale packed with twists and turns.
The film has Sidharth Malhotra as Guru, Riteish Deshmukh as Rakesh, Shraddha Kapoor as Aisha, Aamna Sharif as Suloochna and Prachi Desai as Guru's sister.
Director Mohit Suri roped in Mithoon & Ankit Tiwari to compose music for Ek Villain. The soundtrack has 6 songs with one track being an unplugged version crooned by lead actress Shraddha Kapoor which marks her debut as a playback singer. Three songs are composed by Mithoon, The song Galliyan is composed by Ankit Tiwari. And a track named Awari is composed by Soch (Band). The lyrics are penned by Manoj Muntashir, Mithoon & Soch (Band Members).

Thus the film has songs like Galliyan, Banjaara, Zaroorat, Awari, Humdard and Galliyan (Unplugged)

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Hike in railway fare – not at all fair' that was published in Newsband

Hike in railway fare – not at all fair
Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has announced a 14.2 per cent increase in passenger fares and 6.5 per cent rise in freight rates. This pre-budget increase is a savage act.
The train is poor people`s best transport vehicle. But the sudden hike of prices has shocked the poor common public. It is hard for them to digest this ugly fact. This decision is bound to create negative opinions about the ruling party.
One of the reasons why the National Democratic Alliance was given a huge mandate was a soaring price rise. Almost all essential items had started going out of people's reach, and instead of making sincere efforts to cool down the situation, the United Progressive Alliance ministers, including the former PM, were heard saying that the government did not have a magic wand. People reacted to the statement by making a change in the regime. But what did the NDA do? The NDA seems to play the UPA part two. It is true that UPA's ministers had become arrogant, but so also the NDA's. The decisions made by the new regime tend to show least consideration for the poor and hence the promises that good day will appear was nothing but hollow. But remember the real judge is people who can elect or throw away the party which does not perform properly.
Hiking of fares to this extent suddenly is not a wise decision. It could have been done with a proper strategy so that it would not suddenly bite the pockets of a common man.
It is true that the present government has to get India out of quagmire, but it must not forget the human factor. The nation must look after poor, sick, unemployed and disabled. These people are also human.
If the present government wanted to raise funds for the Indian railways it could have done so by selling scraps, sell property which is of no use, cutting down facility given to employees, keeping check on all projects which are delayed purposely so that all people from contractor to officer earn extra bucks etc. If such a railway budget is presented, a common man will begin to feel that Congress Government was good because such a hike had never taken place in the last ten years of Congress rule.
By saying that the decision to increase fares was earlier done by UPA and that BJP is just implementing the same shows that BJP is only a B team of Congress and not its alternative. This fare hike will not affect the rich but it is bound to affect the middle and poor classes directly or indirectly. The hike of passenger charges and freight charge is not the remedial measures for the crisis that the railway sector is now facing.
Increasing fares by 14.5%?? That is way beyond consumer inflation of 9.5%. Modi government has shown that it is not for the poor. The 14.2% increase in passenger fares and 6.5% rise in freight rates are definitely going to bite the pockets of general public who is not affluent like the corrupt politicians.
Modi's aims and efforts in bringing the foreign investment for improving the railways in the country is commendable; but he must also keep in mind the poor general public before giving his assent for the hike.

The BJP instead of pointing a finger to the previous government would do well to concentrate on good governance and go about tweaking the system to desist from corrupt ways; automatically the system will generate the resources to meet with the kind of development that is contemplated and promised.

GOA: Saints are the materialised form of God. Whenever the Dharma faces languor, God reincarnates. In the present times too, God, through the medium of Saints, has taken up the mission of reinstating Dharma. Hence, Hindus should unite and become active for the establishment of the Hindu Nation under their guidance. This appeal was made by H.H. Datta Maharaj Ruikar, the Managing Trustee of the Datta Mandir Sansthan at Dharashiv, on the fifth day of The Third All India Hindu Convention in the Vidyadhiraj Hall of the Ramnath temple at Ramnathi, Goa.
Such an appeal was also made by Dr. Koushik Chandra Malik, Membar, Shastra Dharma Prachar Sabha, Bengal.

Religious conversion of Hindus take place for the want of education on Dharma, said Yogesh Shastri

NAVI MUMBAI: I had attended a fund-raising musical event at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi. The event showcased the talents of 28 blind children and adults who regaled the audience with memorable songs from over the years. I was left stunned and speechless after witnessing their splendid performance. I’ve no words to describe the way they performed!
The Rotary Club of Satellite City Navi Mumbai (RCSC) had contributed towards organizing this event in order to make it possible to provide eye care to the economically backward.
The name of the event was ‘Ankhiyon ke Jharokhon Se’, put together by Nandu Kadam, who has staged over 100 productions of the show over the past 15 months. He had held auditions all over Maharashtra to scout for a talented visually challenged cast and put together this group.
Their ages ranged from 13 to 35 years and apart from the 10 singers, the rest were all musicians.
The event showcased old Bollywood music from 1960 to 1990. The show was scripted in such a way that each artiste knew his or her cue and the sequence of the songs. Besides, there were volunteers who helped them if they missed their cue. But it appeared that after doing so many shows, each one knew his or her part well.
Kedarnath Rao Ghorpade needs a special mention for being instrumental in organizing this programme.

The main aim of the Rotary Club of Navi Mumbai is to set up a Satellite Eye Care Centre in Navi Mumbai where promotional activities will be held to encourage people to pledge to donate their eyes. Apart from operative and post operative eye care, it will be conducting awareness camps which will enhance the vocational skills of visually impaired people. The initiative will also enable them to find gainful employment.

“Strangely, our country has specific rules for the appointment of even class IV workers, but there are no rules for the appointments of the Judges of Supreme and High Courts. Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'India should deal with China cautiously' that was published in Newsband

India should deal with China cautiously
The visit paid by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India was a sign that Beijing is interested in having strong ties with India. He came as a ‘special envoy’ of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is scheduled to visit India later in the year; Premier Li Keqiang was among the first foreign leaders to call the Prime Minister after he assumed office.
China is keen to know about new Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategic and foreign policies. Foreign Minister Wang described India and China as ‘natural partners’, and showed eagerness to solve the sensitive issue of the border dispute.
Now Modi has been an old friend: he visited the country four times as Gujarat Chief Minister. Modi in the past had visited many foreign countries including China in the capacity as Chief Minister of Gujarat. The issues dealt by CM and PM are distinctly different. The domain of talks by a CM with any heads of state of foreign country will be by and large limited. This meeting gave Modi an opportunity to speak limitlessly.
It is clear that Beijing is impressed by Modi’s reputation and the BJP’s definitive electoral victory. Beijing is also eager to shake off its tag as a difficult neighbour. It is significant that the Chinese reach-out to India’s new leadership preceded the U.S.-India-Japan trilateral, which New Delhi is hosting later this month.
Now while balancing the relationship with China, India shouldn't let Japan have any doubt regarding its relations with India. Chances are high that restructuring and re-calibration of Indo-China relations might be perceived as anti-Indo-Japanese good cordial relations which have developed over last few years. While taming the dragons, the Indo-Japanese relations shouldn't be ignored.
Border disputes should be settled amicably. We should also leverage China to put pressure on Pakistan military. Strategic relationship with China is in India's interest. Building up strong economic relationship and solving border disputes is the key.
China has become the manufacturing hub of the world. It is eying India as its market for its manufactured items. With the fast pacing Indian economy and increasing purchasing power of Indians, China has a potential market in India and hence the Chinese foreign Minister Wang struck all the right notes during his visit. Utilizing this brimming bonhomie India should strengthen its strategic infrastructural requirements in the Chinese border areas.
It is found that every time leaders of the two nations meet, it is China which gets more concessions while India is only offered words of solace and future hope by their Chinese counterparts. Simultaneously, the Chinese have only increased their aggressive military posture all along the border from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. A couple of years back, they even warned an Indian naval ship on the high seas in South China Sea. It cannot be a one way road forever.

While strengthening stronger and deeper ties, India shouldn't forget to safeguard its interest in the border dispute and modernization. China will respect us and we will come to meaningful solution only if we have stronger economy, modernized weaponry and infrastructure.
