Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Godmen or fraudmen?' that was published in Newsband

Godmen or fraudmen?
Some godmen and religious cult leaders often have an exaggerated sense of their own importance: they sometimes end up believing what they tell their fanatic followers. It’s important to accelerate the eradication of the poverty and illiteracy to end this kind of Godman's evil empire. Corrupt and criminal politicians mafia and babus are obviously in connivance.
There should be special cell and website to enlighten the nation. Secularism doesn't mean ignoring the crimes of those who preach skewed versions of religion. Religious preachers should be judged on a spiritual scale, with cult figures and cheats scoring '0'. Governments should be led by people with impeccable integrity, not those who work towards scoring claps in their public performances.
God men is a self declared title by a mafia gang leader to deceive superstitious believers, ignorant, distress people who are looking for some help. Irony is that these anti social elements are backed by some intellectuals, learned high dignitaries, well placed personalities for reasons they themselves know. The well wishers of the society, educated, logical thinking intellectuals, keep a watch on these silent terrorists and give real enlightenment to public and save them from clutches of these destroyers.
This is 21st century and yet many are still superstitious. Not only common and uneducated or villagers follow these people who claim to be Godmen but even rich and well educated people follow them. Rich people also spend lot of money on these so-called Babas who claim themselves to be god. India has large section of population below poverty line, no one spends money on them. Some people follow Baba due to fear of God, they think god will punish them if they will not follow or pray any person who wear saffron colour cloths or claim himself to be God. There is need of an hour to change this thinking. There is need of an hour to change our ways of showing love for god. God does not reside in few people, God is in everyone.
Intellectuals from all groups should come together and devise some educating mechanism to make common man understand the fraudulent game time and again played by the god-persons. It is high time that such so called ashrams of these Godmen are periodically inspected by the police. These ashrams should declare what they actually possess in their premises.
Until we experience an Age of Enlightenment, India will continue to have men who pretend to be Godmen with special powers and answers to life's problems. One way to limit the influence such demagogues have would be to bring prosperity to the lives of the poor through strong economic and social development. In the meantime the media can and should do a much better job of exposing the hoax and deception these folks represent and help the ordinary folks in separating falsehoods from genuine facts.
Today, there are number of God men in public life. Many of them are controversial. Most of them have amassed huge wealth. They brainwash their followers, and make them fanatic. These poor people become so obsessed with god man that they do not shy away from bloodshed. Great writer Tolstoy wrote that people use religion as a tool to enhance their social status and power. Today there is need to shun the Baba culture prevailing in the country.

Only awareness and just order will free the common man from all sorts of blind faith and recluse.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Stop Honour killings' that was published in Newsband

Stop Honour killings
Crimes are being committed in the name of honour. The extreme forms of transgression, such as inter-caste and inter-religious relationships, are met by the punishment of death. The Supreme Court has come down heavily upon such crimes.
There is a case where almost the whole family was wiped out on the flimsy ground of saving the honour of the family. The heart of the problem is in the conflict between indefensible customary practice and state law. The challenge arises because honour crimes stand at the confluence of competing spheres — customary practices, criminal law and international law.
Honour killings are a blot to Indian society, which assumes a patriarchial approach. Actually the seniors of the society cannot bear women making their own decisions (if they are against the standards set by them) and may lead to serious consequences in future in the name of honour. The apex court strongly censured such cases in the past but due to repeated killings it seems they have lost lustre. The parochial khaps have been adjudicating their society since long. After the Supreme Court approved of marrying someone their own choice, the gap between "individual's choice" and "choice left" must be considered.
Our nation got freedom a long back ago but its people are still struggling for their so called Honour. Everybody has the right to live their life on their own terms and conditions but in our society illiterate mentally is trying to control the life of their children who indicate the change for our society.  Girls are not allowed to wear jeans, to have mobiles and not to take the decision of their life. This mentality curbs our country's growth as we indulge in such practices.
Why aren't these patriarchs and khap panchayat leaders charged with murder? If the government does not enforce the law, of what use is it? This is what Arvind Kejriwal said.
The heinous crimes committed by family members must be dealt heavily. It is condemning and pathetic. What is the difference between Khaps and taliban? Both see women as their feifdoms and wish to exercise control. All the talk of divine sanction and religious authority is hollow. In reality, they cannot see women making their own decisions. It is only the fear of losing authority around which such organisations thrive. Unrepresented by women, these groups and their nefarious plans should receive condemnation by the state. Otherwise, such cases of honour killing shall not abate. While we seek to move two paces ahead towards a modern society, such killings drag us four paces backward. It is hoped that people who kill their daughters for honour know that they lost it when they killed her
Sati was eliminated only because of the 'English' influence and encouragement against such primitive and barbaric parctices. Whetever else may be said, the 'English' were re-knowned for their sense of fair play, justice, liberal modern system of education and humane values. It was in the background of such an ethos that this evil of Sati could be eliminated. Raja Ram Mohun Roy was educated in England and had modern enlightened values and so only this helped the cause further - giving it an Indian face. In fact even the Independence for India was won mainly by the English educated Indians, whose English education and values filled with modern, egalitarian ideals and values allowed them to think of freedom, home rule and self determination. For that to happen again we must have a social reformist movement encouraged by the current Government aiming to modernise Indian society and rid it of such anti-diluvian, primitive and reprehensible ideas and attitudes.
When the British could reform Indian society and rid it of evil practices such as Sati why cannot the independent Government of India do it now.

The current competitive lifecycle invites many stressful moments. The younger generation is looking towards spiritual way to find peace and calmness. Corporate's are mining for profits by commercializing faith of such people. Swami Public Ltd, a film by writer-director Ganjendra Ahire speaks about this issue.

Horrible Bosses 2

Horrible Bosses 2 is a 2014 American comedy film directed by Sean Anders and a sequel to 2011's Horrible Bosses. The film is produced by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Bros.
The film has an interesting plot. After Nick, Dale, and Kurt decide to launch their own business, Burt Hanson, a savvy investor, appears to take them down. With no other viable option in sight, the trio decides to kidnap Hanson's son Rex in order to put up a ransom to take back their business. The movie then moves towards an interesting climax.

Penguins of Madagascar

Penguins of Madagascar is a 2014 American 3D computer-animated action comedy film, produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is a spin-off of the Madagascar film series, and takes place right after the events of Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, following the penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private in their own spy thriller. Apart from the main characters, it is unrelated to The Penguins of Madagascar (which is set in its own continuity).
The film is directed by Simon J. Smith and Eric Darnell, and written by Michael Colton and John Aboud. It stars the voices of Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Conrad Vernon, Christopher Knights, Benedict Cumberbatch, John Malkovich, and Ken Jeong.
That film posed the question of whether penguins could exhibit insanity. In the case of this spirited animated movie, the answer is assuredly yes.
The heroes are a feathered task force of secret-agent-like penguins, led with military discipline by Skipper (the voice of Tom McGrath).
After a narrative setup that provides the wisp of a tether to the earlier movies, the four penguin main characters infiltrate Fort Knox — to visit a vending machine filled with discontinued cheese-puff snacks. They are soon whisked away by the genetic researcher Dr. Octavius Brine, actually a disguised, disgruntled octopus named Dave, with whom the penguins resided during a stint at the Central Park Zoo.
Dave (a sporting John Malkovich), who sometimes barks orders in the form of actors’ names (“Nicolas, cage them”; “Robin, write this down”), plans to kidnap penguins from zoos and aquariums and transform them, ridding them of their cuteness.
In their quest to thwart Dave’s plot, the penguins have competition: a squad of Arctic animals commanded by a wolf known only as Classified. That Classified’s voice belongs to the ubiquitous Benedict Cumberbatch.

Zed-Plus

Zed Plus is a 2014 Bollywood drama film directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi. The film features Adil Hussain as one of many lead characters, including Mona Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sanjay Mishra, Shivani Tanksale and Ekavali Khanna.
The story is set in contemporary India in a small town of Rajasthan. A coalition Government, troubled by corruption and communalism, is on the verge of collapsing due to fights within the coalition partners. All the ministers are making efforts to save the Government, but still it appears that the Government will fall.
In this time of political crisis the Prime Minister gets a call from one of his coalition partners who offers him the “perfect solution”. The solution is that Prime Minister should visit a Dargah popularly known as Peepal Wale Peer Ki Dargah in Fatehpur - a small town of Rajasthan. Prime Minister should offer a “chaddar” and bow his head in respect of the Peer and the Government would be saved. Will a Prime Minister, fighting communalism, visit a Dargah to save his Government? Having exhausted all options, the Prime Minister decides to pay a visit to Peepal Wale Peer Ki Dargah in Fatehpur. Suddenly a sleeping town wakes up to welcome the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister visits the Peepal Wale Peer Ki Dargah and “Luck by Chance” he meets a puncturewala – Aslam. The highest authority of the country meets the lowest denominator of the society.
Some strange conversation follows between a Prime Minister and a puncturewala and entire nation is surprised to learn that a puncturewala has been given Zed security by the Prime Minister!
What follows is a unique story of a common man with Zed security.
The film has characters Aslam Puncturewala played by Adil Hussain, Hameeda (Aslam’s Wife): Mona Singh, Habib (Aslam’s Neighbor): Mukesh Tiwari, Hidayatulla: Sanjay Mishra, Prime Minister: Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Inspector Rajesh (Head of Zed Security): Rahul Singh, Fauziya (Habib’s Wife): Shivani Tanksale, J Dixit (OSD to Prime Minister): K. K. Raina, Saeeda (Aslam’s love interest): Ekavali Khanna and Chief Minister of Rajasthan: Dr. Anil Rastogi

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland. It is the sequel to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and will be followed by the concluding entry, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

Dinesh Kamath's news "‘Save the girl child’ campaign proves to be a success in Navi Mumbai" that was published in Newsband

‘Save the girl child’ campaign proves to be a success in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Child sex ratio in Navi Mumbai is much better as compared to Mumbai, says a reliable source.
Navi Mumbai’s child sex ratio says that in 2013-14 there were 923 females per 1000 males in the age group of 0-6 years. Mumbai records 914 females. This is better than the result recorded in 2012-13.
It is clear that people in Navi Mumbai are become well aware about the importance of the girl child and they have been carrying out all types of drives to prevent discrimination against the girl child. The authorities in Navi Mumbai are prepared to go to any extent to prevent the residents of the city from indulging in sex determination tests and in the process save the girl child. In fact, such sex determination tests have been considered as illegal and anybody found violating this law can face severe penalties.
In the past it had become a fashion for many people to go through sex determination tests and blood-based genetic tests to prevent female child from getting born. Undergoing abortion had been in vogue everywhere, until many social organizations took this issue extremely seriously and they pressurized the authorities to take stern actions against such ugly happenings. NGOs and the authorities started campaigns in big way to save the girl child and in the process they succeeded in minimizing this crime considerably.
The efforts of NGOs and authorities in Navi Mumbai did not go waste considering the fact that Navi Mumbai had recorded a good child sex ratio (923) last year although the target is 940 which is the national average as per the 2011 Census.
The residents of urban areas are more scientific minded. But they misuse their scientific knowledge and are more prone to undergo gender tests and this is not a good trend, according to experts. In comparision, the people of rural areas refrain from undergoing these tests in order not to invite the wrath of God. This is the reason why child sex ratio in rural areas is much better than in urban areas.

The NGOs and municipal authorities find it more difficult to control the residents of the cities as compared to villagers when it comes to saving the girl child. But Navi Mumbai residents woke up on time as far as this issue of saving girl child was concerned and in the process managed to improve considerably the current child sex ratio.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Youth beats experience in chess' that was published in Newsband

Youth beats experience in chess
Five-time world chess champion Viswanathan Anand’s bid to regain the title was foiled in Sochi, Russia, by the gifted young Norwegian, Magnus Carlsen. In Chennai last year, he had dethroned the genial Indian in his own backyard.
Going by the form of the two players, the match was expected to provide much closer battles — and it did. The decisive difference between two of the finest players in the cerebral sport was Carlsen’s ability to deal with pressure and complications better. It was not often that Carlsen yielded much ground, but whenever he did so, Anand failed to cash in on the opportunity. At key moments, Carlsen proved stronger than Anand.
Advantage can be seen in this rivalry that Anand is now exploring new possibilities and moves for further improvement in this cerebral sport. The win could be achieved but in this pressure game Carlsen was just better in handling stress. A sport is always better to watch when such rivalry gets revealed and it takes the game to the exciting level and both great players have made it by their ingenuity.
With this close defeat Viswanath's ability has not waned, but Carlsen's popularity is certainly enhanced. Anand, as usual, has been beaten off the board rather than on the board. He has mastery over theory and is unsurpassed in post-mortem analysis. But, he is too generous in discussing moves with his opponent after a game and discusses various lines at length at the mandatory post-game Presser. In that processes, what he reveals unwittingly, is the inner recesses of his mind. At Championship level, this is what his rival wants to know. Chess being a battle of brains, Anand ought to be more discreet in opening out to wily rivals like Carlsen. A Champion needs to learn from Bobby Fisher, who won his matches even before sitting down.
It was by no means a close contest. Anand had a chance to force a tie breaker and put Carlsen to real test. Two amateurish blunders by Anand enabled Carlsen to defend his crown easily, in spite of his none too brilliant form. Anand had raised great hopes after his stellar performance in the Candidates contest and a win in the Bilbao tournament. Hence, age was not a factor in this keen contest. Anand has more experience playing against top players spread over two decades which would off set any degeneration associated with aging. Carlsen also loves outdoor sports (football and basketball) and keeps himself physically fit, engaging in them on rest days. Anand’s advisers have to ponder about the reasons for the sudden slide in his performance.
Psychology and self confidence do play a role in Chess. Anand is the best person to remedy his faults and regain his vintage form in time for the next match. No doubt that Anand has the skill, temperament and experience to win at least one more World Championship.

No wonder Carlsen is the youngest and highest rated player in the history of the game. It was good to see Anand fight back this time and give it a tough fight, better than last year's one sided Carlsen performance. Anand saying he is not retiring after the championship shows his incorrigible spirit and it is definitely a treat to his fans.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'There is urgent need to strengthen our Navy' that was published in Newsband

There is urgent need to strengthen our Navy
A few days back, an auxiliary ship of the Indian Navy sank off the Visakhapatnam coast. This tragedy claimed the life of one sailor while four personnel were deemed missing.
Since August 14 last year, there have been 15 accidents. In fact, an accident on another submarine, INS Sindhuratna, on February 26 cost the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral D.K. Joshi, his job: he resigned owning moral responsibility.
But the trend has not been arrested, and now it seems the lessons learnt were incomplete. This suggests systemic lapses, be it in maintenance, acquiring spares or non-adherence to standard operating procedures.
It is widely acknowledged that the Indian Navy is a pre-eminent force in the Indian Ocean region. And many navies in the region are looking to the Indian Navy for support and leadership. Our Navy has been extending training and maintenance support to many nations. A dubious safety record at home will raise serious apprehensions in the minds of other nations about the country’s credibility and capacity.
Navy's non adherence to maintenance procedures is causing loss of precious human lives. What is costlier mistake than that? Navy should make a solid action plan to rectify it. The new Defence Minister should take the issue on serious note and break this so-called chain of non-seriousness in the most crucial organ of the Indian Army.
A thorough inspection is needed here and the reason behind these accidents must be known before any other accident occurs. The continuous mishaps in the Navy are not only showing its irresponsibility but also lack of strict action. Now the Navy is hoping best from the new government because the death of the crew is an embarrassing moment for both for the Navy and government.

An efficient navy with speck less track record is important not only for the actual war but also building strategic persona. Now, that the oceans are emerging as important factor for future energy resources, the need of a strong navy has even more increased. So, strengthening of navy should be on the top priority agenda for the government. If we cause delay in that we might lose the Indian Ocean to other powers such as China who are slowly trying to build their presence here.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Good moves by Modi' that was published by Newsband

Good moves by Modi
It is evident that Modi intends to use the Bharatiya Janata Party’s impressive electoral mandate to minimise the role of tantrum-throwing partners. And so, the Shiv Sena’s demand for a second Cabinet berth at the Centre and key portfolios in the Maharashtra government in exchange for its support were brushed aside. However, Suresh Prabhu from that party, was inducted into the BJP on Sunday morning and sworn in as Railway Minister hours later. The best news is that of inclusion of four more Brahmins, three of whom are in the Cabinet.
It is a good decision taken by Modi to induct Manohar Parrikar as Defence minister. He is an experienced person. He has been doing good work in Goa as chief minister.
It is always acceptable to overthrow the ally who is demanding rather than being supportive and that is exactly what happened with Shiv Sena. Loyalty is only secondary. Shiv Sena's exclusion is not bad. SS has been throwing tantrums right from Day one. Also, while Modi is accommodative to all religions and regions, SS is avowedly Hindu Party, which also is against Gujaratis, Biharis, North Indians etc. This attitude should go. Shivaji never had such bad attitudes. SS will become a fine party if these attitudes are shunned. Nationalist Congress Party was anyway corrupt. NCP was corrupt in UPA too.
Only the size of government cannot be seen as the size of governance. In democratic setup minimum government may give dictatorship. Minimum government is more suitable for countries like America. We are parliamentary democracy, where the whole cabinet is answerable to parliament, where the whole cabinet works as one unit. In such situation talent of the cabinet is more important than the size. So inclusion of more talent in the cabinet is good forward looking decision, and this should be appreciated.
What is shocking is that there are 31% of his ministers with serious criminal cases pending against them including attempted murder and rape. This is indeed quite a serious drawback of the BJP government.
It is great to see that Modi has inducted ministers like Parrikar, Prabhu and Jayant Sinha as they are having good education qualifications, which is pretty much required to handle the critical portfolios, and this gives confidence to common man that these people will take the decisions keeping in mind holistic growth. It is a judicious blend of youth and experience.

Modi has made it abundantly clear that he wants great performances from all his ministers. That is also what India wants.

The movie narrates the story about the triumph of love for the country over attachments for a loved one. This story is about the relationship between grandfather and his grandson. And to our surprise this story is narrated to the Grandson (2014) by the Grandson (1947) who has now become Grandfather.
Morgaon, a laidback hamlet is the canvas of this story and the tale begins to unfold just six days before Independence. Communication during this time was equivalent to zero. Villagers used to receive news after 8-9 days.
Story mainly revolves around Dajji (Dilip Prabhavalkar) and his grandson, Govind (Nishant Bhavsar). Also you will see Usman Chacha (Yatin Karyekar), Bappu Patil (Ashok Samarth), Sandhya (Mrunal Thakur) and many more. This story is narrated by Grandfather (Ravindra Mankani) to his grandson (Shubhankar Atre).

The Equalizer

The Equalizer is a 2014 American action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Richard Wenk, based on the television series of the same name. It stars Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo.
The film narrates the tale of a man with a very particular set of skills who decides to balance injustice and exploitation by unflinchingly engaging in acts of brutal violence.
Washington plays Robert McCall, whose quiet life as a manager in a big hardware store is interrupted when Slavi (David Meunier), a goon who works for the Russian Mafia Pushkin, beat up a teenage prostitute Alina (Chloe Grace Moretz) whom McCall had befriended as a fellow late-night diner at a 24-hour restaurant.
Incensed, he sets on a path to deliver justice for Alina. With wits and weapons, he kills Salvi and his goons. The media reports this as a turf-war massacre, so Pushkin dispatches his most trusted and fearsome assistant; a demonically tattooed man named Teddy (Marton Csokas) to settle scores and mark territories.
Meanwhile, McCall enjoys the peevishness and righteousness of hunting down sociopaths and fighting sardonic demons that include the Russian crime syndicate. But the crux of the film pivots on his cat and mouse chase with Teddy.

Dumb and Dumber Too

Dumb and Dumber To is a 2014 American comedy film co-written and directed by Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly, and is a direct sequel to their 1994 film Dumb and Dumber. The film stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, reprising their roles 20 years after the events of the first film, and also features Laurie Holden and Kathleen Turner.
The film tells the story of Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne (played by Carrey and Daniels, respectively), who set out on a cross country trip to find Harry's daughter who had been adopted and Lloyd’s in love again.
The movie revisits the titular duo of dumb Harry (Daniels) and dumber Lloyd (Carrey), 20 years after the events of the first film: Harry pays his first visit to his parents since the early '90s, and discovers a two-decade-old postcard from a gal he hooked up with (Kathleen Turner) informing him that she's pregnant. It turns out she had a daughter and put the girl up for adoption. Harry is moved by the prospect of having an adult child out there somewhere (and it just so happens that he needs a kidney transplant), so he and Lloyd embark on a road trip to track down his daughter. They get mixed up in many wacky situations along the way, like finding and stealing their old "Shaggin' Wagon," and being duped into pleasuring an old lady in exchange for her hearing aids.

Titoo MBA

Titoo MBA is a Hindi film directed by Amit Vats and produced by Rajan Batra and Mayank Patel in association with Beatrix Entertainment. The film stars Nishant Dahiya and Pragya Jaiswal in principal roles.
Titoo (Takhat Singh Gill) is your average Chandigarh boy with big dreams of becoming a businessman. But as usual, destiny plays spoilsport and nothing works out for Titoo. Added to that is his heavy debts that force him to take up a completely weird and unexpected career. In the midst of this financial mess, Titoo is married off to Gulshan Kaur Grover from Jalandhar following an elaborate arranged marriage. He leads a double life for a while and tries his best to hide his embarrassing secret from his newlywed wife. But as fate would have it, she finds out all about Titoo’s alternate career and the poor fellow’s life flips upside down once again.
The film has Nishant Dahiya as Titoo, Pragya Jaiswal as Gulshan, Abhishek Kumar, Puja Ballutia, Nandini Singh and Anchal Singh.

The soundtrack is composed by Arjuna Harjai except for Saiyaan Bedardi which is composed by Leonard Victor. The film has songs like O Soniye, Plan Bana Le, Kya Hua, Atyachaari, O Ranjhna, Kyu Hua Khafa and Saiyaan Bedardi (composed by Leonard Victor).

NAVI MUMBAI: The plot at Belapur Sector 15 where once stood the controversial Glass House will be now used by City and Industrial Development Corporation to construct a public garden. This move by CIDCO will prevent that particular plot from being encroached upon. CIDCO MD Sanjay Bhatia, who is the mastermind behind this move, has already got a group of engineers and other experts to work on the blueprint of this garden which will have many facilities like fountains and various types of games.
After the Glass House was demolished as per Bombay High Court’s orders, there was no one to take care of the vacant spot resulting in this land getting dried up owing to lack of electricity and water supply. This spot had become a meeting place for criminals and the residents around this place felt threatened by them. These residents did lodge complaint with CIDCO authorities who for months kept on promising to resolve the issue. At last, Sanjay Bhatia revealed his idea of coming up with a green garden at his location. He also promised to implement this gem of an idea at the earliest.
The architects, engineers and other necessary experts have already begun their survey of this plot and developed a rough idea about the kind of garden they could come up with here. Also the residents around have been given the power to put forward their suggestions about the facilities they would like CIDCO to include in this garden.

In fact, huge quantity of soil that will help in making this entire area green has already started arriving at this place and this has pleased the residents around to a great extent. Thus CIDCO authorities seem to be bent on proving that they don’t just make empty promises.
