Right move but made too late
When politically embarrassing controversies come to
surface, the commissions of inquiry are appointed to please the public. It is obvious that these commissions are
influenced by the ruling party. These
commissions do come up with fact-finding reports that need not be accepted by
the government of the day.
The UPA government has developed a desire to appoint a judge to head a commission to
inquire into the Gujarat surveillance case after four-fifths of the general election is over.
Corrupt minds always have corrupt ideas. Look at
their election strategy to win votes: 1. Appease minority, 2. Instill fear in
the minds of minority, 3. Announce freebies close to elections, 4. Split a
state - AP - to reap rewards from benefiting part of the state, 5. Make false
or motivated accusations against opposition leaders and abuse investigation
agencies to harass them, 6. Align with like minded corrupt parties, 7.
Post-elections be ready to support or take support from any corrupt or criminal
party to remain in power and so on and so on.
Party at the helm is now quite habituated with
controversies - and has enough experience of handling conflict-ridden
situations with ease - during its second term, and its trick of distracting
attention from the contemporary issue is not new. This trick of forming
commission to look into the snoop gate controversy is also played to veer
general public attention from the ongoing general election and wave of
opposition.
The rulers are trying to create some last minute
trouble for the PM aspirant in the opposition. The encroachment into the
sacredness of one's privacy is certainly questionable. But the failure in
constituting a commission of inquiry, at the appropriate time, also invites
legitimate criticism. All this shows the political game plan behind every
issue. Dishonesty, thy name is politics!
It is a right move to set up a commission in this
case but the time chosen by incumbent government is planned and politically motivated.
It is clear that the incumbent government is apathetic to girl's privacy. It is
only trying to settle its political score. But unfortunately, it is too late.
