Vinod Khanna was one of the hottest stars. He
looked super and acted brilliantly. Young girls and women loved him. He could
give tough fight to any Khan and also came close to beating Amitabh Bachchan
when it came to acting. Women liked him with sideburns which he would sport
time and again. The heroines of his time considered it as a pride to be cast
opposite him.
Vinod Khanna was good in playing romantic or
action or even villainous roles. He was an all rounder. His role in Amar Akbar
Anthony is unforgettable. This film also had Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor
competing with him. It was very difficult to say who between Amitabh Bachchan
and Vinod Khanna was more impressive in this particular film. While Amitabh
Bachchan romanced Parveen Babi in the same film, Vinod Khanna wooed Shabana
Azmi in his own typical style.
Vinod Khanna had excelled in an old film named
Mere Apne. This movie depicted a gang war. Vinod Khanna was the leader of one
gang while Shatrughan Singh led another side. It was a tough fight between the
two. The maker of the film then had introduced Meena Kumari who played a
motherly role trying to make peace between the two gangs. Vinod Khanna in this
film gave such a wonderful performance that after the release of the film he
had producers queueing up to sign him for their next films. And Vinod Khanna
went on impressing in one film after another till recently.
Vinod Khanna is today no more. But he has left
behind films in which he acted in for the future generations to watch them and
admire his great style of acting. After he passed away many tributes poured in
from great personalities of the film industry. He also had political admirers
who were impressed by his performance as Member of the Parliament.
Very rarely one gets to see an actor of Vinod
Khanna’s calibre. People of his generation were lucky to have got to witness
such a great actor in action. May his soul rest in peace!
