Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'BJP and PDP should join hands' that was published in Newsband

BJP and PDP should join hands
The election in Jammu and Kashmir has thrown up a fragmented verdict. The performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the People’s Democratic Party, the National Conference and the Congress shows that the contest was truly a four-cornered one. The Hindus of the Jammu region voted overwhelmingly for the BJP, and the Muslims of the Kashmir valley split their approval among the PDP, the NC and the Congress. But on the whole, it was an outright disapproval of the NC government led by outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Second, the popular approval of the BJP is the highest of all four contestants — it won 23 per cent of the votes polled. The PDP, despite scoring lower than the BJP in terms of vote share, has won the highest number of seats and has become eligible to be invited to form the government. Now there is a need for at least two parties to come together to form a government in the State
The best thing is that the people of J & K turned out in large numbers and did their democratic duty. In the present scenario, only a coalition government is likely to happen, if people's verdict is to be respected and the Governor's rule is to be avoided.
However, a beginning has been made by the people of the valley for bringing tranquility in the region. After analysing all the permutations and combinations, BJP and PDP are the two likely parties that are to join hands to form the government. Normalcy is certain to bloom and the people will gradually join the mainstream.
Despite the less number of seats from pure mandate, BJP is most likely to go for all the options and form a government for the sake of the people who showed a lot of confidence in Modi and his party. Being at the Centre and led by Narendra Modi and also the majority having clearly showed the belief in BJP, the second largest party in J & K, it should participate in formation of new government.
The coming together of BJP and PDP is beneficial for the both parties in Jammu & Kashmir. Coming together of Hindu and Muslim parties will be an example for both Hindus and Muslims throughout the country. With the help of Modi government, Kashmir can also see faster development and economic growth. The center is also best placed to assuage their alienation feelings and bring them to main stream. If PDP is any wiser, it will follow this path for the betterment of Kashmir and its people.
Undoubtedly, BJP has won from Jammu in a grand way. One cannot forget that the people of Jammu have just not voted for BJP on the basis of religious differences but also because they have been cornered by the rest all political parties of Kashmir. Abdullahs and Muftis were always the chief ministers of Kashmir and they never cared about Jammu and now when these people got their chance they took their revenge and voted for BJP. So these results project a much larger picture.
For the first Time the Political Parties are given an opportunity to have an introspection on what they did in the past and what they can do for the future. In a way the show of strength by PDP in Kashmir and by BJP in Jammu is a good omen. The verdict demands the coalition of PDP-BJP to heal the wounds caused by the previous government and for the real development of the state. With a strong Government in the Centre much can be achieved. Tremendous work needs to be done - first rebuilding after the disastrous flood and rain fury and then real development

It is clear from the two election results that the family owned political parties are suffering and people no more trust them.
