Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Congress should look beyond Gandhis' that was published in Newsband

Congress should look beyond Gandhis
Congress party is in a fix. After its defeat in the elections, there have been cases of Congressmen resigning from their posts or defecting to other party or just quitting the party. There were many members of the party who demanded resignation of chief ministers of certain states. The defeat has given birth to rebels within the party who have become a source of headache for the party leaders. The fact that State Assembly elections are due later this year has increased the anxiety and impatience of party members. They fear a repeat of the results of the recent general elections that saw the Congress touching an unprecedented low in terms of seats won.
There is no doubt about the fact that Congress is going through a deep crisis. The party’s rank and file is not just looking for a major organisational overhaul and a big idea but it is actually thirsting for inspirational leadership and direction that can restore the fortunes of the Congress. The party vice-president Rahul Gandhi refuses to lead the party. This has frustrated party president Sonia Gandhi. A committee under senior leader A.K. Antony has been set up to make a diagnosis of, and suggest a cure for the party’s ills. The report that Antony will come up with will be meant for Sonia Gandhi’s eyes only.
It is high time for the Congress to look beyond the Gandhis. Congress needs a new leadership but not in the form of Gandhis. The new leader should be from the masses and not from a single family. The party has to restructure itself as it used to be before independence. The main thing which the party has to consider is the future of the country and not of a family.
The biggest downfall of Congress is Gandhi family, corruption, ‘secularism - Congress style’ and arrogance. The bitter fact is Congress will disintegrate without Gandhi’s name and the voters will not vote Congress because of Gandhis.
Two things the Congress has to get rid of are sycophancy and the Gandhis - then all will be well. They are directionless, rudderless and hopeless. They need new leadership. Congress should be dismantled. A fresh party with clear thoughts should be made from the scratch. In spite of having immense experience and skill, Congress is riding precipitously to its fall, because sycophancy towards Gandhis has become the driving attribute among the team, who enjoys priority among their teammates above the country's progress and development. Gandhi's inadequate leadership and lost trust has made the situation worse. Awakened people in general election has displaced Gandhis and abated them to an opposition party.

It’s high time for Congress insiders to pull themselves up and revamp the leadership, team's spirit with a changed ideology of democracy. Not to forget, capitalism only works well when it has strong opposition. India needs opposition like Arvind Kejriwal who is the only hope to reshape India.

New movies that’ll get released in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
Lucy

Lucy is a 2014 French action film directed, written and edited by Luc Besson, and produced by Besson and Europacorp. The film was shot in Taipei, Paris and New York City. It stars Scarlett Johansson as the title character, along with Morgan Freeman playing Professor Norman.
The movie has an interesting plot. Lucy is a 25-year-old American woman living and studying in Taipei, Taiwan. She is tricked into working as a drug mule by her new boyfriend for his employer, a Korean gangster and drug lord named Mr. Jang. Lucy delivers a briefcase to Mr. Jang's hotel room that is handcuffed to her wrist containing a highly valuable synthetic superdrug called CPH4 that can increase the user's brain function capacity. Through a turn of events, the packaged drug is forcibly sewn into Lucy's abdomen and that of others who will also transport the drug for sales in Europe. While in captivity, one of Lucy's captors tries to rape her and kicks her mercilessly in the stomach, causing the bag inside her to leak, releasing the brain-enhancing drug into her system. As a result, she begins acquiring increasingly powerful mental talents and enhanced physical capabilities, such as absorbing information instantaneously, telekinesis, mental time travel, and can choose not to feel pain or other discomforts, in addition to other abilities. She fends off her present captors and arranges herself with the newly gained abilities.
Lucy travels to a nearby hospital to remove the leaking container of drugs from her abdomen. The bag of drugs is successfully removed, and Lucy realizes that she requires the bags inside the other three drug mules in order to continue expanding her neural capacity and that the process of rapid cell growth the drug is stimulating will eventually kill her. Returning to Mr. Jang's hotel, Lucy assaults him and telepathically extracts the locations of all three drug mules from his mind.
She contacts a well-known scientist and doctor, Professor Norman, whose research may be the key to saving her. Lucy recovers the drug and must hurry to meet Professor Norman, with whom she agrees to share everything she now knows, once each cell in her body is controlled. Mr. Jang and his henchmen also want the drug and a gunfight ensues with the French police. The climax is interesting.

22 Jump Street

22 Jump Street is a 2014 American comedy film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, produced by and starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, and written by Michael Bacall, Oren Uziel, and Rodney Rothman. It is the sequel to the 2012 film 21 Jump Street, based on the television series of the same name.
The movie has an interesting plot. Two years after their success in the Jump Street program, Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko are back on the streets chasing drug dealers. They thought by going to actual college that they would be hunting down real criminals once again. However, unannounced to them, they were assigned to an online university, only looking for keywords and phrases during online lectures that might give off any indication of any illegal crime happening around the city. Eventually, they come across the meeting time and location of another powerful gang in the docks. However, after failing in the pursuit of a group of dealers led by the elusive Ghost, Deputy Chief Hardy puts the duo back on the program to work for Captain Dickson—now located across the street at 22 Jump Street. Their assignment is to go undercover as college students and locate the supplier of a drug known as "WHYPHY" that killed a student photographed buying it on campus.
At college, Jenko quickly befriends a pair of jocks named Zook and Rooster, two football player fraternity members that become the prime suspects of the investigation. Schmidt gets the attention of an art student, Maya, by feigning an interest in slam poetry. The two sleep together, to the disapproval of Maya's roommate Mercedes, and it is revealed that Maya is the daughter of the vehemently disapproving Captain Dickson. Schmidt and Jenko visit Mr. Walters and Eric in jail for advice on how to look for the WHYPHY supplier. Walters notices a unique tattoo on the arm of the dealer in the photograph and insists that if they find the tattoo, they will have found their man. The movie then reveals whether the two succeed in carrying out their assignment.

Lateef – The King of Crime

Lateef: The King of Crime is based on Gujarat Mafia by Sharique Minhaj. With his debut film Chand Bujh Gaya, director Sharique Minhaj stirred everyone to think about Gujarat's Godhra incident. Though the film was a love story but Sharique Minhaj wove the Godhara incident and Communal riots in the film as the background of the story to show how political passiveness can create havoc in the society.
His love and extensive knowledge of Gujarat is again at display in his 2nd film Lateef: The King of Crime. The film is produced by Kewal Krishna. The film is based on Gujarat Mafia and its nexus with politicians and police. It is not just a crime film but looks into the life of its protagonists. Film delves into the childhood friendship of Lateef and Sohrab-u-Din and their rise to dreaded criminals to be nicknamed as Haji Mastan of Gujarat. He lived King Size life. Neither police nor politicians crossed his way. He ruled Ahmedabad underworld.
In the end he is encountered by the same police which helped him to run drug smuggling, prostitution and kidnapping unchallenged. And by exploring the personal and love life of Abdul Lateef, Shariq Minhaj has successfully added Bollywood ingredients of fun and entertainment in the film.
Star Cast of film is Hameed Khan, Bharti Sharma, Aryan Vaid, Raju Mavani,Aditya Lakhiya,Mustaq Khan, Ahshan khan Kalpana Shah, Rupal Desai,Javed Khan, ShakilSayani, Mithlesh, Shah Nawaz and Master Hani-Sunny.

Hercules

Hercules is an American adventure film directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Reece Ritchie, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Joseph Fiennes and John Hurt. It is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars. It is one of two Hollywood-studio Hercules films released in 2014, the other being Summit Entertainment's The Legend of Hercules.
The movie has an interesting plot. Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) is the leader of a band of mercenaries comprising the prophet Amphiaraus (Ian McShane), the thief Autolycus (Rufus Sewell), the warrior Tydeus (Aksel Hennie), the archer Atalanta (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) and the storyteller Iolaus (Reece Ritchie). Hercules is said to be the demigod son of Zeus, who completed the legendary Twelve Labors, only to be betrayed by Hera, who drove him insane and caused him to murder his wife Megara (Irina Shayk) and their children during a visit to King Eurystheus (Joseph Fiennes). Hercules has since rejected Zeus and chosen to live as mortal, and is tormented by visions of Cerberus.
One day, Hercules and his men are approached by Ergenia (Rebecca Ferguson), on behalf of her father, Lord Cotys (John Hurt), who wants Hercules to train the armies of Thrace to defend the kingdom from bloodthirsty warlord Rheseus (Tobias Santelmann). Hercules accepts after he and his men are offered his weight in gold, and the band is welcomed to Thrace by King Cotys and General Sitacles (Peter Mullan), leader of the Thracian army. After training the army, Hercules and his men lead them into battle against local barbarians as a test of their strength.

At one stage Hercules realizes that his family was in fact killed by three vicious wolves sent by Eurystheus, resulting in Hercules' constant hallucinations of Cerberus. When Lord Cotys orders Ergenia to be executed for her betrayal, Hercules is encouraged by Amphiaraus to embrace his destiny and breaks free of his chains, saving Ergenia and slaying the wolves. The movie then moves towards an interesting climax.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'An extremist act in a democratic country' that was published in Newsband

An extremist act in a democratic country
Shiv Sena MP of Thane Rajan Vichare forced Arshad, a catering supervisor at the IRCTC canteen in Delhi’s New Maharashtra Sadan, to eat a chapati during his Ramzan fasting period last week. This is clearly a high-handed approach of Vichare and his colleagues from the Shiv Sena.
It is high time Shiv Sena stopped specialising in using strong-arm tactics to silence those who disagree with it. This is an extreme and unacceptable behaviour. The Sena has violated the law of the land with impunity time and again. This act was performed in spite of the fact that Arshad was in uniform, displaying his name badge. This act has been captured in television footage.
It is now clear that in India the powerful still enjoy impunity. The elected representatives are supposed to set an example for people by their behaviour, The distress caused to a Muslim employee by the callous, even if not deliberate, disregard of his religious sensibilities is apparent. It was a very bad act, and in poor taste. The MP had many other ways to express his disapproval of the quality of food served in the Maharashtra sadan. The supervisor could have been summoned and questioned and asked him to take corrective action. Now the incident has been blown out of proportion to give it a communal colour and create a divide in the society and the press is playing a major role in this negative publicity.
What needs to be looked into is whether such behaviour is more common than we think and is present across all levels of society. We can conjecture that this is exactly what a home owner would do to his/ her servant, a father to a son, husband to a wife or teacher to a helpless pupil. It is only from such a society that such representatives attain high office.
Powerful actors drive expensive cars and kill pedestrians and aim sharp rifles and shoot endangered species. Rich sons of former ministers get bail, organize huge rallies, and destroy property. A well-connected actor gets away with murder. High ranking officers routinely violate subordinates. It may or may not have any connection with religion and caste but merely the projection of the power of wealth, brute force, and official influence of the perpetrators. Media should focus on specific individuals in each case in order to isolate them from their uninformed followers.
For change to happen, we will need more sensitive and humble people coming into politics and not the current brazen lot, only when this changes, Indian Politician scenario is going to change. This change has to happen at one constituency at a time and not from "New Delhi". We tend look at "New Delhi" for solution to all our issues, where is the local responsibility.

While this incident by this MP is condemnable without question, Muslims should stop using this to further add to their "victim-hood" mentality. As for Gujarat riots, as horrible as it was, it was not started by Modi. It was started by the barbaric act of burning alive defenseless women, children and old people in the train compartment. Had this horrible incident not occurred, there wouldn't have been any riots, not that the riots are justified.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Right to prescribe dress code' that was published in Newsband

Right to prescribe dress code
A Chennai club recently denied admission to a Madras High Court judge as he was wearing a dhoti. This club requires men to wear shirts with collars, trousers, and shoes or closed sandals or at times lounge suits. This episode in Chennai provoked sharp responses from across the political spectrum and the Tamil Nadu government promised to bring a new law against dress regulations in social clubs that discriminated against Indian attire.
But how can the government do that? Clubs are private organisations where members have the right to set their own rules on their premises. Why only Clubs? Many religious organisations also prescribe dress code to enter temples, like the one at Trivandrum, wherein our President had to remove his shirt and tie up a Mundu around his waist to enter the temple. What about pilgrims going to Sabarimalai and other religious places? Many public places do have their sartorial code and if one wishes to make use of these public places, then one must respect the code and abide by their rules.
Social clubs can't be held blamed for this act as they are operated by a private person. Private person is fully under his constitutional rights to set certain rules and regulations to be followed if others want to be a part of his/her organization. If people have problem with it in any manner, they are free not to join it.
Rules framed by private organizations such as clubs cannot be analyzed under the scanner of discrimination just because they demand a particular dress code unless the intent behind such a rule is meant to discriminate. In this case, some argue that it discriminates against Tamilians, which it surely does not. There is no rule by the said club that it is meant only for non-Tamils.
Tamil activists, political parties and legislators need not become too emotional on this issue. Threat by the Tamilnadu Chief Minister to come down heavily on the private club in Chennai is avoidable, dictatorial and bad in law. That she will cancel the license and close the club is high handed. Any private association, club or gathering should have the right to have its own rules and regulations regarding its members. Members willingly subscribe to abide their generally accepted norms. If the club or association invites somebody or members take guests they should be informed of the rules in advance.
In the present case the Chief Minister may have her way due to her clout make the club to kneel and crawl. But if the matter is taken to court her action may not stand the test of law.

While the topic of colonial era rules in elite private clubs crops every now and then, the more pressing concern is the frequency with which the term 'dress-code' is used in modern Indian society. The victims are almost always women who merely wish to partake in the comfort and practicality of the trousers-and-shirt. Our society insists that Indian culture is at stake if women do off with the salwar-kameez or saree for a more practical and inarguably more modest trousers and shirt, while the men are allowed to be more mobile and comfortable, and more 'western' while perpetrating this social injustice. Perhaps it is more important to take up the issue of the discrimination that the average woman is subjected to everyday.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'A great victory' that was published in Newsband

A great victory
Germany enjoyed a historic triumph in Brazil — its fourth World Cup title and the first by a European team in South America. The final was a tense, cagey affair that appeared as if it would be decided by errors.
Argentina, an admirably well-drilled unit, made very few errors while defending. But it couldn’t capitalise on the chances it got. Germany’s big-match experience, ingrained tactical intelligence and collective might proved too strong. Determined and clinical, open-minded and creative, the Germans were popular champions of an edition that united the football world more than it divided it.
It was a team effort and the most deserving team won the world cup. Argentina although managed to defend well but still they relied too much on Messi whereas Germany had many players to rely on. Both sides fought hard with speed and deft foot work. Argentina failed to convert opportunities into goals. Finally the fittest, speediest, Never-Say-Die team made a furious counter attack and converted an impossible opportunity into a goal showing that team work has always the edge.
Messi did his best. It is true that this man is capable of performing magic with the ball but maybe he was too tired or apathetic and definitely not as enthusiastic for Argentina as he is for Barcelona. As for the Germans, they exhibited tactical game skills from the very beginning of the tournament. Their win was inevitable and finally "the best team" won.
Argentine defense was literally impenetrable. Apart from the header at the end of 1st half Germany came no where near to scoring, that too with more than 60 percent ball possession and the same team had scored 7 goals in its previous match. But you need to score goals to win a football match, and there the Argentine forward failed miserably.
The tournament taught the world a great lesson in team building and not to rest on the laurels of individuals. This world cup tournament had everything. Biting, diving, falling, dancing, crying - all were there on the field. This was also the World Cup where social media made its presence felt emphatically. Sunday’s final was the most discussed sporting event in history on Facebook, with over 280 million ‘likes’, posts and comments. Similarly, during the match 618,725 tweets per minute were generated on Twitter. Clearly, moving beyond water-cooler conversation, the discussion on football has gone global.
Argentina this time defied the worldwide opinion that they were a one-man army. Though they ended on the losing side, they performed admirably in the final. Arguably, they were marginally better than Germany during the course of the 90-minute play. It was quite evident that Germany upped the ante in the extra time, and they were better when it mattered most, and Mario Goetze came up with an amazingly timed and executed goal which curiously reminded one of Andreas Iniesta's goal in the last final. Too bad that Messi and Higuain couldn't convert their chances and that cost them dearly.

Anyway, kudos to Germany for this great win.

New movies that’ll get released in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
Kick

Kick is a 2014 Hindi action thriller film. The film is directed and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner, and it stars Salman Khan in the lead role. Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui appear in supporting roles. A remake of the Telugu film of the same name, the screenplay was adapted by Nadiadwala and Chetan Bhagat.
The film has Salman Khan as Devil, Jacqueline Fernandez as Shaina, Randeep Hooda as Himanshu, Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Firoz, Vipin Sharma as Home Minister, Saurabh Shukla as Minister, Sanjai Mishra as Ramavtaar Rathi (Senior Inspector), Rocky Verma, Archana Puran Singh, Sumona Chakravarti, Kavin Dave, Nargis Fakhri in special appearance and Mithun Chakraborty as Vidvan Singh.
The movie has an interesting plot. On a train journey in Warsaw, psychiatrist Shaina (Jacqueline Fernandez) meets Himanshu (Randeep Hooda), a police officer from India to discuss their prospective marriage. Both are reluctant to enter into an arranged union but become friends and strike a deep conversation where Shaina reveals her previous relationship with the eccentric Devil (Salman Khan), a man who lived only for his 'Kick' aka an adrenaline rush. Despite his idiosyncrasies they embark on a whirlwind romance, until one day he breaks up with her for a new 'Kick' and walks away never to return. Himanshu in turn regales her with his glorious escapades as an officer but mentions that he has finally met his match, an intelligent thief. What they are both unaware of is that their stories have one thing in common, Devil. He returns to their lives under the pretext of having lost his memory. Behind it all, is a deeper mystery and an uncompromising mission for which Devil is ready to lose his life.
The soundtrack was composed by Himesh Reshammiya and Meet Bros Anjjan. Reshammiya had Jumme Ki Raat sung by Mika Singh and Palak Muchhal. Salman Khan has sung a romantic song named Hangover.

Rage (Tokarev)

Rage (originally Tokarev) is a 2014 American action crime thriller film directed by Paco Cabezas and written by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Rachel Nichols, Peter Stormare, Danny Glover, Max Ryan, Judd Lormand and Pasha D. Lychnikoff.
The film has an interesting plot. Paul Maguire (Nicolas Cage) and his buddies Kane (Max Ryan) and Danny (Michael McGrady) live a life of crime. One night, they ambush a Russian mobster, intercepting him when he’s on his way to drop off money to his boss. The take is much larger than they imagined; along with a Russian gun called a Tokarev, they get away with a briefcase full of cash. It’s enough for Paul to leave the life of crime and go legit, but their crime sets off a bloody protracted war between their Irish crime family and the Russian mob. Paul instructs his friends to hide the money until things calm down between their outfit and the Russians. In spite of several casualties on both sides, their plan works well; five years after stealing the money, Paul, Kane and Danny meet to split up the take.
Paul uses his share to slowly build a legitimate construction empire in Mobile, Alabama. He marries a beautiful, ambitious woman named Vanessa (Rachel Nichols) and is a doting father to his teenage daughter Caitlin (Aubrey Peeples). His former mob boss, O’Connell (Peter Stormare) has allowed him to go legit, but he remains friends with his former buddies who haven’t had his luck when it comes to reforming. One night Paul and Vanessa are heading to a charity dinner, leaving Caitlin at home to hang out with her friends Evan (Jack Falahee) and Mike (Max Fowler). At the dinner, a detective (Danny Glover) named St. John approaches Paul, who is used to being hassled for his former life of crime. But the Detective isn't hassling him; something has happened to Caitlin.
Evan and Mike tell the police and Paul that they were watching TV with Caitlin, when several Russian men barged in and took her. They fought – but the Russians overtook Mike and Evan. Convinced the kidnapping is long-overdue retaliation for the crimes of his youth – specifically his run-in with Ivan, Paul ignores the police and mounts his own investigation.
Paul and his buddies shake down and rough up anyone they can find who might be connected to Chernov (Pasha D. Lychnikoff), the legendary mob boss whose money they stole seventeen years earlier. O'Connell pleads with Paul to stop his rampage, but he refuses. Vanessa, who initially backed her husband's search, now fears he's becoming the killer he once was. But there exists another possibility: perhaps he has always been a violent man and can never truly leave that life behind.
On a flashback it is learned that Evan killed Caitlin using the Tokarev which is originally owned by Ivan stolen by Paul, which Caitlin showed to the boys after a dare.

Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a 2014 comedy film written and directed by Wes Anderson and inspired by the writings of Stefan Zweig. It stars Ralph Fiennes as a concierge who teams up with one of his employees to prove his innocence after he is framed for murder.
The film is a British-German co-production financed by German financial companies and film funding organizations, and was filmed entirely on location in Germany.
The film has an interesting plot. We start out in 1985, under a late-Communist gray sky in a town of cemeteries and statues. An aging writer (Tom Wilkinson) shoos away his grandson and recalls the time in 1968 when his younger self (Jude Law) stayed at the nearly empty, Iron Curtain-tacky Grand Budapest Hotel and became acquainted with its elegant and enigmatic proprietor, Mr. Moustafa (F Murray Abraham).
For his part, Moustafa reminisces about his first days at the hotel, where he was a mere lobby boy known as Zero (Tony Revolori) and the place was dominated by its charismatic concierge, M Gustave. Portrayed by Ralph Fiennes with high-stepping liveliness and an evocative moustache, Gustave is both courtier and sovereign, a devoted servant to the guests and the capricious, mostly benevolent ruler of the staff. He corrects their slightest lapses of deportment and lectures them endlessly at mealtimes.
He is a lover of poetry and also of the elderly women who summon him to their suites, and maybe of a few men as well. Somehow, he is both an ascetic and a sensualist, highly disciplined and completely irresponsible. A thoroughly ridiculous man and at the same time “a glimmer of civilization in the barbaric slaughterhouse we know as humanity.”

The main plot spins around an elaborate, Tintin-esque caper involving a stolen painting and a clan of vengeful Zubrowkan nobles. (Swinton plays the matriarch, Adrien Brody her viperous son and Willem Dafoe the fearsome family hit man.) Zero, a refugee from another made-up geopolitical trouble spot, falls in love with Agatha (Saoirse Ronan), a baker’s assistant with a Mexico-shaped birthmark on her cheek. From here the story moves towards the climax.

Inorbit Malls, Vashi joins hands with Child Rights and You (CRY) to spread awareness about child labor through ‘OPEN YOUR EYES’ exhibition and campaign on July 26 and 27.
The campaign, a part of CRYs Click Rights initiative, hopes to draw attention to the state of child laborers in our country, a social phenomenon that is on a rise, eating away into our nation’s future. Here are some facts:
•        10.1 million child laborers in India between the ages 5-14!
•        22% rise in number of working children between 5-9 years of age!
Through this initiative, CRY wishes to connect with the patrons at Inorbit Malls, Vashi and sensitize them to the taboo called child labor – a cures that not only deprives children of their education, their mental and physical development but also steals their childhood.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'The most condemnable act' that was published in Newsband

The most condemnable act
The shooting down of a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over Ukrainian airspace on Thursday has shocked the world. There have been at least 20 such incidents since the 1940s, when aircraft have been struck down by a missile or military jet.
The fallout of the war in Ukraine, in which Russia has played a controversial role, has now become an even bigger international issue with the shooting down of this aircraft. Some countries have already appealed to the United Nations to play a more decisive role in ending this conflict and also take charge of the investigation.
This tragedy witnessed the death of one Indian also. Whoever committed this act has heartlessly killed 295 people including 80 innocent children. The world was expecting the USA and Russia along with the UN to sit together, discuss and prevent further such tragedies. But that is not happening.
Now the UN needs to intervene in this matter on a war footing. Also just expressing condolence is not enough. Presidents and Prime Ministers of all the countries need to make co-operative efforts to avoid such situations in future. This may be a duel between two countries but it is taking toll of the lives of people worldwide which should be strictly condemned.
India can play a useful role provided they are made a part of UN Security Council. In the present scenario, it is the prime duty of UN Security Council members to make India a permanent member in the UN Security Council. If this happens, then in the long run, US, Russia and China will reap the benefit from India. India has the potential to be the most trusted UN Security Council's permanent member and is capable of playing a major role in ensuring the harmony among the NATO, Russia & other Asian countries. UN Security Council needs to define the safe-fly-zone in the globe and make the signatories responsible to prevent the recurrence of such incident.
There seems to be some high level international conspiracy. This is clearly an "innocent bystander effect" of war. The pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine haven't objected to the accusations, and the intelligence gathered points to the firing from such a group. However the question is, was this a targeted attack or an accidental shooing? Airlines need to avoid this airspace and the perpetrators brought to justice. Russia needs to stop arms supply to separatists and end its designs on Ukraine. It’s also time for UN to interfere completely into the Russian-Ukranian matters. UN has to take necessary measures to keep peace in this area before the situation gets worse than this.
It appears that the plane has been brought down by a trigger happy psychopath. The fact that about three hundred innocent lives were lost owing to the callousness of the yet-to-be identified armed forces is disturbing the collective conscience of the World. UNO, apart from conducting an inquiry into this diabolic incident, must immediately plug the sources which supply arms to this zone of conflict. That the international airlines continued to use this dangerous airspace until the tragedy is much more puzzling than who shot down the MH17!

The entire world should come together not just to condemn the act but to effectively punish the guilty, however powerful they may be, and to ensure the non recurrence of such acts in future in any part of the world. Let us not give an impression that we quietly succumb to terrorism.

PWD versus Environmentalists
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Public Works Department is being pressurized by the environment experts into stopping their act of hacking trees on the Sion-Panvel highway which they are indulging in just to enable them to widen the road.
This department had targeted more than thousand fully grown trees and they are in the process of bringing them down. Many were destroyed and there are some yet to be brought down. The environment experts have been pleading to the PWD authorities to come up with some alternative method other than hacking trees to carry out their development work. According to them, hacking of trees is very simple but it is extremely difficult to replant trees. They say that trees provide shade to the city and prevent the land from becoming hot and this prevents global warming which is an important issue discussed all over the world. If these trees are hacked, they say, there won’t be any other way in which the atmosphere could be cooled and this will affect the residents staying in the region where these trees are being brought down.

However, PWD officials tried to pacify the environment activists by promising to plant as many trees as they have cut. But the activists are still feeling bitter about the large-scale destruction of the trees. Thus the war between PWD authorities and environment activists has become the talk of the town.
