Will Nahata clinch the Belapur seat?
By Dinesh Kamath

BELAPUR: Navi Mumbai’s Belapur constituency is become a subject of greatest interest for all the Navi Mumbai residents. Both saffron alliance and Democratic Front alliance have parted ways over seat-sharing. Hence this time there are six contestants competing for Belapur seat. All these six candidates are tough, each in his or her own way.
Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Manda Mhatre from here and she shows promise of grabbing most of the female votes.
Shiv Sena’s Vijay Nahata is a very familiar face in Navi Mumbai and he had contributed enormously to this city when he was Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Hence he is looked at with highest esteem by the residents of this city. Nahata possesses A to Z knowledge about the city and he is one man who can convert Navi Mumbai into a gem of a city owing to the experience he has gathered as Municipal Commissioner of this place in the past.
Congress has fielded Namdeo Bhagat who is a favourite among the Agri-Koli community which has a huge number of its people residing in the city and Bhagat is bound to grab maximum votes from this section of the city. Bhagat is also a big name in the city and he has contributed hugely not only as a Municipal Corporator but also as Director of City and Industrial Development Corporation.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has given its best man Ganesh Kale a chance to give all the contestants for Belapur seat a real tough fight. Then there is Dr Rajesh Patil in the fray and this man is very popular among the project affected persons for whom he has done a great deal of service.

The enormous popularities enjoyed in their respective groups by these main contestants for Belapur seat might prove to be a setback for Nationalist Congress Party’s Ganesh Naik. In fact, even the best political pundits of the city are considering Vijay Nahata as the favourite as far as Belapur seat is concerned. Vijay Nahata and his men are leaving no stone unturned to grab the Belapur seat. Nahata has opened an office at Sanpada Sector 4/5 for the purpose of election campaigning. He also took out many rallies in the city and he received enormous response from the residents wherever he went. In fact, he visited practically all the main areas of the city and everywhere he was received with great respect and enthusiasm. The solid support that he got from all the important local leaders of Shiv Sena makes it appear that he might ultimately emerge as the winner.
