Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'A laudable move by Modi government' that was published in Newsband

A laudable move by Modi government
A demand is being made to make public the operation the Indian forces undertook against militant camps inside Myanmar territory bordering Manipur. The operation, which was a message to all countries inimical to India, predictably set off a furore in Pakistan. This time, besides a resolution in the Pakistan Senate, the Prime Minister, the Interior Minister and the Chief of the Army Staff have all went hammer and tongs at India.
It seems that it was a robust response to the killing of 20 soldiers in Manipur on June 4 that was called for. But while guarding the sanctity of India’s borders and the lives of its soldiers and citizens, the long-term strategy must be to erode the militant strength.
So far the Modi government was using excessive PR techniques to create the perception of welfare. But in this case he was forced to take resort to a covert operation against the militants. A covert operation means that only a top handful of Government and Armed Forces personal are in the know on the scope and scale of the operations.
The paramount importance must be to safeguard the international boundaries. There is a need to ensure that there's no room for such incidents anymore. From that angle, the action taken by this government is apt. There is no question of some ministers saying this and that. Ever since independence, our country had been a target for terrorists. The continuance of that act was due to the weak administration we had. It is great to see that now some had shown the daring to act.
It is time that the PM enforced some discipline among his cabinet ministers in the matter of issuing statements. They must have his clearance. As neighbours, India and Pakistan have to live in peace because the alternative is nuclear annihilation of the entire South Asian sub continent. Keeping this horrendous possibility in view, let us not try to raise the hackles of each other.
Pakistan's response over the operation and its uneasiness betraying overtone is perfectly normal being a breeding ground for state sponsored terrorism and must not be taken much seriously if one does possesses a rational mind and has the ability to take long term view of pattern of vacillation in commitment towards fighting terrorism.
There are some members of media who feel that India should be viewed always through the prism of Pakistan and that we do not have the right to take pride in our soldiers lawful hunting down of those anti-India insurgents conducting their covert operations of inflicting mass massacre on our soldiers skulking from foreign soil. It is highly idiotic to expect to lift so quickly the veil of secrecy behind the mode of a military surgical operation conducted across Indian borders with whom India has a treaty for neutralizing terrorists and insurgents.
The operation against the terrorists is laudable and it has sent right signal to the terrorists outfits which were dominating the scene during UPI rule.

That last thing is India and Pakistan will be friendly neighbors only when true democracy triumphs in Pakistan.
