Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'India should be careful of China' that was published in Newsband

India should be careful of China
It is a fact that China betrayed the hope of Nehru in 1962, stemmed from the Dalai Lama issue. Later this hatred for India culminated in China-Pakistan bhai-bnai and is flourishing with both Nations common goal of embarrassing India. Add to that the slow and steady economic rise of India has made China to increase its hatred for India. We should understand that like Pakistan, China also dislikes India and we have to live with that. It is treacherous on the part of China to have betrayed Nehru, who vehemently fought for China's position in Security Council. But that is politics and nature of certain people. Right from the "Hindi- Chini Bhai Bhai" days of Nehru and his Panch Sheel rubbish, their incursion into NEFA then, India has placed too much reliance on China's good faith which they did not live upto. So this apologetic attitude to this country is unwarranted. Better adhere to the Boy Scouts saying "BE PREPARED". The present BJP government has to undo what their previous government did that pains India even today.
By all actions China is the real enemy of India. We must think thousand times before having any business deal with it as China products are renowned inferior cheap stuff. Until China is improved, we must oppose all its moves. Russia calls China his brother. Hence it is doubtful whether Russia is India’s true friend. Many scholars in India strongly feel that US is a more reliable power than Russia.
There are two aspects to diplomacy - persuasion & coercion. India's refusal to act in a coercive manner has resulted in China, and Pakistan, dictating to India. India simply needs to introduce restrictions on Chinese imports to force China adopt a stand that opposes terrorism directed at India.
The UN is a big joke. How can there be equality when the five permanent members can veto everything? The real villain of the piece is the VETO. Take it away from the present privileged members or grant it to everybody. This is the crucial step to provide a level playing ground for everybody. There is no EQUALITY, an essential part of democracy, among the member nations. Bring about that and there will be debates and debates, which is better than dropping an axe over any move brought on the floor of the house!
China supporting leaders of terrorist outfits in Pakistan is a part of their efforts to keep the latter's support intact and not let India grow as a parallel power in South Asia. Thus, the diplomatic tactics of China are to be carefully observed and appropriate measures must be taken. The real take away is that China is an enemy for supporting terrorism against India and for nuclear proliferation by providing nuclear designs to Pakistan.
China sometimes acts independently with narrowed interests. This also shows that India and not China should be the responsible global power. To negate China, and thereafter UN, India needs to build up its own hard power and make huge technological advancement. ‘Make in India’ has to be a success.
India should be ready to forgo economic opportunity with China if they continue to support terror. Only then they will understand. Asking for investment from China is wrong option for India.

The last decade has seen a World power emergence in China, which has consolidated its standing on that score to nearly a level equal to the otherwise Unipolar world scenario wherein the USA's dictates were supreme, ultimate and "sacrosanct". India lost the race, as the nation's leaders have had no Vision on the international equations. India should open up on subjects like Technology, Economics, Human Resources and Terror counter. It is not too late even now for India to open up on these subjects - before it is too late and we miss the boat, altogether.
