Navi Mumbai lad wins Boys U-17 Title at 88th Manora Badminton Tournament

NAVI MUMBAI: 88th Manora Badminton Tournament was held at Khar Gymkhana on 28th-29th May, 2016. One of the organizers of the tournament was Mr. Manohar Godse.

The match was played among the members of the Manora Badminton Academy at Khar Gymkhana, Khar (W) on 28 & 29 May 2016. Winners & Runners-up were well rewarded with a trophy, certificate, Yonex kit bag, Yonex T-shirts / Socks.

Achintya Agarwal is a budding/upcoming young shuttler from Navi Mumbai, Student of Ryan International School, Sanpada. He was the number 1 seeded player, and played well to deservedly win the tournament. He had recently won the Boys U-15 Singles Title at the 16th Parle Mahotsav Tournament held at Vile Parle Cultural Centre, Vile Parle which was held from 24 to 30 December 2015.

The special features of this tournament was that: (1) This was 88^th Tournament of the Manora Badminton Academy. (2) In all 165 member boys and girls from all over Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Roha, Sakarwadi and Nashik participated in this tournament. (3) All the matches were played on the Air Conditioned Badminton Cou9rts of Khar Gymkhana, Khar (West), as per new rally points scoring system. (4) Prize distribution was done at the hands of Chief Guests Dr Sudhir Kherade, Mr Ashokbhai and Mr Inderpal Gujral (Secretary, Badminton – Khar Gymkhana) (5) The Tournament was partly sponsored by Yonex.

Under 10 years: Sharvani Walekar bt. Sunaira Jain – 21-8, 21-7.

Under 10 years: Parth Deore bt. Suchir Ravva – 21-15, 21-9.

Under 13 years: Myuna Mhatre bt. Siya Singh – 25-23, 24-26, 21-16.

Under 13 years: Ruturaj Rathod bt. Kartic U.C. – 21-8, 21-17.

Under 15 years: Sayali Teke bt. Saanvi Mukadam – 21-15, 21-14.

Under 15 years: Vaibhav Tiwari bt. Dhruva Patel – 21-14, 26-24.

Under 17 years: Saniya Shivalkar bt. Sayali Teke – 21-12, 18-21, 21-13.

Under 17 years: Achintya Agarwal bt. Viraj Kuwle – 21-17, 21-12
