NAVI MUMBAI: After
having seminars on drug and sexual abuse in municipal schools and a musical
program called JOSH to educate children and teens on the above topics, the
Turbhe MIDC Police and Heart Foundation announced free counseling under the
PACT (Prevention of Abuse of Children and Teens) Project at the Turbhe MIDC
Police Station on 5 December 2014 where over 100 attended.
"It was encouraging to see around 15 youth raise
their hands to be de-addicted when we asked them," said Dr Jayakar Ellis,
Founder, Heart Foundation. He added, "As and when we are called by the
Police we will be going down to counsel the addicts."
Talking on the occasion, Mr. Shahaji Umap, DCP Zone - 1
said, "We police fight against crime and take care of the safety of the
people and we also felt the need of dealing with drug addiction so we have
started this free counseling here."
"I was glad to see so many youth attend this
seminar. It is our small effort to reduce the use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol
in our area. When I discussed with Dr Ellis, he readily agreed to be a part,"
said Mr. Chandrasen Deshmukh, Senior Police Inspector.
"To have a healthy body, we need to have good health
and if we use drugs and other intoxicating things, we will never be able to enjoy
our life completely. This is a message I want to drive into very child and
youth in our Navi Mumbai," said Mr. Vivek Masal, ACP - Zone 1.
"I never knew how to leave my addiction, but after
attending a session with the Counselor from Heart Foundation I am so glad that
I can really stop and be free from drugs," said a drug addict whose name
was withheld on request.
