NMSF celebrates
two-day Science Utsav on 6 & 7 Feb

NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Science Foundation
(NMSF) in collaboration with Shri Gujarati Samaj and Maharashtra Academy of
Sciences celebrated two day Science Utsav on 6th and 7th of
February 2016 in Gujarat Bhavan, Vashi.
On 6th of February in the Teachers'
conference, 35 teachers from 25 different schools of Navi Mumbai and Thane
which included 10 from municipal schools discussed the topic of "Encouraging
And Supporting Students’ Thinking In Learning Science". The lively
discussion covered various details on the topic with presentation by experts
from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.
On the second day, nearly 50 teams of three students
each presented the result of their experiments on the principles of science
they study. The event was inaugurated by Mr. S.S. Sonavane, the Mayor of Navi
Mumbai.
In his inaugural speech, while appreciating the
efforts of NMSF, he also emphasized the efforts of NMMC in improving science
education in Navi Mumbai. This event which was open to public was moderated by
a panel of six judges who are serving and retired scientists.
The experiment on "Static friction On An
Inclined Plane" by Prabhuddha Gope, Sankalpa Bhadoria and Himanshu
Kulkarni of Lokpuram Public School, won the best exhibit award. Three second
positions were given to "Ph of Solution" by Rutuja Patil and Akanksha
Yadav of Sreerang Vidyalay, Thane, "Kacchra Vyvastapan" by Puja
Biswal, Umer Sana and Shweta Rajan of NMMC School No 40, Mhape and
"Factors Affecting Rate of Chemical Reaction" by Vikarsh Jadhav,
Sahil Valekar and Akash Shete from St. Mary's School, Vashi.
Nehru Science Center demonstrated advanced scientific
techniques like Cryogenics. 25 students from Govandi School of CUBE
(Collaborative Undergraduate Biology Education) by HBCSE demonstrated lifecycle
of mosquitoes, dafnia and fruit fly.
Dr. Bhagwat, the chairman of NMSF, said that the
excitement and enthusiasm of the students in participating in this event and in
competently defending their efforts to the public is a triumph for us all.
