Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'President’s speech was incomplete' that was published in Newsband

President’s speech was incomplete
It was clear during the Republic Day address that President Pranab Mukherjee was trying to justify people’s anger at the weakening of democratic institutions.  He said that Indians are witnessing corruption and waste of national resources and that if governments do not remove these flaws, voters will remove governments.
Mr Mukherjee referred to the Aam Aadmi Party as ‘populist anarchy’ and the Bharatiya Janata Party as ‘communal forces’. And what did he have to say about the Congress Party? It is difficult for a person who has been politically very active in a party for over five decades to suddenly assume a neutral position just because he was thrust into Presidency. Hence he couldn’t help but defend the ruling dispensation's actions, of which he had been a pillar until recently. This is a pitfall that worried many when his name was suggested for Presidency and that has come true.
Thus Mr Mukherjee spoke about AAP, BJP and Congress. It was clear that Mr Mukherjee wanted Indians to believe that he was on the side of the people and democratic institutions, not blindly supportive of governments and certainly not sympathetic to those in power. Mr. Mukherjee also wanted the people to vote in a stable government.
But Mr Mukherjee’s speech was incomplete. Mr Mukherjee, who had been the Finance Minister in the past, should have made clear as to how much promises made in his previous budget are fulfilled. Not a single word in the speech mentioned as to how he would solve women security deadlock in Delhi and India. Is it because his own son who is a Member of the Parliament had in the past made a loose statement against women protesters against gang rape calling them `dented and painted`?
Other things that were missing in the President’s speech was as to how the Police in Delhi under Center Government fails to register even a petty FIR by a common Indian and why the President has failed to protect FDI not as `charity` as he had promised while he was a minister?
President was part of mainstream till recently. Surely things have not gone worse after he left. He himself was with this system. Can he explain what prevented him from bringing foreign money? He had the complete list under wraps.

What we are witnessing in the streets is this lax attitude towards corruption which has reached disproportionate levels. Mr President who was in administration and in politics for a very long period is also responsible.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Strengthening of Indo-Japan ties necessary to check China' that was published in Newsband

Strengthening of Indo-Japan ties necessary to check China
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had recently visited India. There were important agreements signed between the two countries during the 36 hours he spent in the country. In fact, there has been taking place dialogues between Defence Ministers, Foreign Secretaries and Defence Secretaries of both sides. The main issues they discuss are maritime security, and a trilateral between India, U.S. and Japan
It has been decided that Japan’s National Security Council and India’s National Security Adviser are to hold regular consultations. The Indian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), as the country’s navy is called, held a joint maritime exercise off Chennai in December 2013. India is also in negotiations with Japan to buy its amphibious aircraft, Utility Seaplane-2, used by the Japanese Navy.
The important thing is both the sides share the common threat of China emerging as a major power in the East.
Abe’s visit is bound to give a boost to Japan-India bilateral trade. Tokyo has generously helped fund India’s infrastructure development, including the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and is also interested in a similar project in the Chennai-Bangalore belt. Discussions on a civilian nuclear deal continue.
India can, as part of a long term project, learn from Japanese how to self-modernise our defence forces i.e learn how to be technically self reliant. Japan can help India become technologically self reliant in defence areas.
Strategic relationship with Japan augurs well for India. Indo-Japan relationship should aim to build a strategic partnership that will check China's aggressive posturing towards its neighbours.
The importance given by Japan to India is appreciated but India should act decisively and make good use of the palpable Japanese political will to invest. Then only can India claim to be a "partner" in the true sense of the word, and not make the relation contingent upon a "China-threat"
Both the countries should go forward in strategic and economic relation for more prosperous and secure Asia pacific region. Amid increasing strategic and economic co-operation, it becomes all the more important to promote cultural relations and people to people contact between these two important Asian countries. The generous support provided by Japan for revival of world-renowned ancient Nalanda University is a testimony to importance attached to cultural relationship of these two countries.
There are a lot many complementary aspects which both these countries could focus to steer their relationship to new heights.
The advice to India to be wary of China flies in the face of the gay abandon with which China transferred nuclear weapons to Pakistan with the sole intention of containing us. Apt trade and military buildup between India and Japan is the only answer to rising Chinese hegemony.
A peaceful Asia is the goal of the India-Japan relations for the well being of all people in the world. India and Japan has to shoulder the responsibilty of maintaining the peace especially when China is behaving like a backyard bully.

Lastly, India can emerge as a heavyweight only if we settle our long standing disputes with Pakistan and take into consideration the sensibilities of other smaller neighbors. The key to such lofty goal lies in forging the South Asian Union, which is only possible by resolving Kashmir imbroglio. This also is not impossible, provided the people of both India and Pakistan take a lead to dismantle the barriers dividing them emulating German and European unification.

The trio’s life takes an unexpected turn when they get into a brawl with a few goons. They find themselves caught in a conflict which pitches them against a politician, an underworld don and some corrupt police officers.

Ya Rab

Ya Rab is a movie directed by Hasnain Hyderabadwala starring Ajaz Khan, Arjumman Mughal, Raju Kher, Vikram Singh, Imran Hasnee and others. The film shows the battle between two ideologies. One group represents the Islamic principles of compassion and respect for human life, while the other incites youth to avenge alleged atrocities on Muslims. It is a genuine effort to show the right face of Islam and to guide the misguided to the right path.
What's the movie about? The basic idea behind Ya Rab is to show how Islam has been used as a tool to propagate terrorism. The Quran does not approve of terrorism in any way, not a single verse in the Holy Quran supports terrorism. Many people mention verses from the Holy Book and present it as evidence of Islam being a terror breeding religion for their political and monetary gain.
Ya Rab focuses on such issues where we deal with so called self proclaimed Maulanas (Islamic Preachers) who misinterpret The Quran and its real meaning to breed terrorists and terrorist activity. It also shows how such people manipulate the young and vulnerable youth in the name of Islam and Jihad to run their terror shops.
Ya Rab is a genuine effort to show the right face of Islam and to guide the misguided on the right path.

Hasee To Phasee

Hasee Toh Phasee (English: She Smiles, She's Snared!) is a romantic comedy Hindi film directed by Vinil Mathew and produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap. The film features Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles.
The film has an interesting story. Spread across Mumbai, over a decade the film is about the relationship between the quirky, rebellious Meeta (Parineeti Chopra), and the mischievous Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra) struggling with their respective families to fit in. Nikhil bumps into Meeta on the occasion of her sister Deeksha's wedding while Meeta is on the run. He falls in love with Meeta's sister Karishma on the same day.
The film jumps to the eve of Nikhil and Karishma's engagement. Karishma's wealthy father, Devesh Solanki, does not approve of Nikhil as he finds him to be a lackadaisical young man. On the day of his engagement, Nikhil promises Karishma that he will prove himself to be worthy of her within the next seven days.
Nikhil is re-introduced to Meeta by Karishma and is instructed to put her up in a hotel. Nikhil recognizes Meeta. In an attempt to please Karishma he decides to keep Meeta in the flat above his own house, with his crazy extended family. During the course of Meeta's stay at Nikhil's house, they come close to each other and open up to each other.
In the midst of this confusion, the truth of relationships is unfolded; the strength of unions is tested and love triumphs.
The film has Sidharth Malhotra as Nikhil Bhardwaj, Parineeti Chopra as Meeta, Adah Sharma, Manoj Joshi, Sharat Saxena, Neena Kulkarni, Karan Johar in a special appearance and Bobby Darling in the song Drama Queen.
The soundtrack of the film is given by Vishal-Shekhar while the lyrics are written by Kumaar and Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film has songs like Punjabi Wedding Song sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Benny Dayal, Shake It Like Shammi by Vishal Dadlani and Benny Dayal, Drama Queen by Vishal Dadlani and Shreya Ghoshal, Manchala by Shafqat Amanat Ali and Nupur Pant, Zehnaseeb by Chinmayi Sripaada and Shekhar Ravjiani and Ishq Bulaava by Sanam Puri and Shipra Goyal.

Saving Mr Banks

Saving Mr. Banks is a 2013 American-Australian-British historical comedy-drama film directed by John Lee Hancock from a screenplay written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Centered on the development of the 1964 Walt Disney Studios film Mary Poppins, the film stars Emma Thompson as author P. L. Travers and Tom Hanks as filmmaker Walt Disney, with supporting roles from Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, Bradley Whitford, B. J. Novak and Colin Farrell. Taking its title from the father in Travers' story, the film depicts the author's fortnight-long briefing in 1961 Los Angeles as she is persuaded by Disney, in his attempts to obtain the screen rights to her novels.
In the winter of 1933, in a thatched cottage in Sussex, England, a complicated woman named Pamela “P.L.” Travers began to write Mary Poppins, the first in a series of novels that would inspire the beloved 1964 Walt Disney movie and supply generations of children with a magical fantasy nanny.
The reality of Travers’ own turbulent childhood — and her reluctance as an adult to relinquish control over her characters to Walt Disney — are the subject of the movie Saving Mr. Banks. The movie follows Travers (Emma Thompson) as she travels to the Disney lot in Burbank for two weeks in 1961, tangling with and tormenting the studio chief (Tom Hanks).
The LA visit inspires Travers to recall her childhood in Australia, in particular her father, a charismatic drunk played by Colin Farrell. From here the movie moves towards an interesting ending.

Lone Survivor

Kristensen is SEAL Team 10's quick reaction force (QRF) commander.
The film also has Alexander Ludwig as Machinist's Mate Shane Patton, Ali Suliman as Mohammad Gulab, an Afghan villager, Yousuf Azami as Ahmad Shah, a suspected Taliban leader, Sammy Sheik as Taraq, a field commander of the Taliban group,  Rich Ting as SO2 James Suh, Dan Bilzerian as SOCS Daniel Healy, Jerry Ferrara as SGT Hasslert, Scott Elrod as Peter Musselman, Rohan Chand as Gulab's son, Corey Large as US Navy SEAL CAPT Kenney, Zarin Mohammad Rahimi as an elderly shepherd who discovers the four-man SEAL team during the mission and Nicholas Patel and Daniel Arroyo as the goat herders who assist the shepherd.

Heartless

Heartless is a Bollywood film directed by Shekhar Suman. It stars Adhyayan Suman, Ariana Ayam, Shekhar Suman, Deepti Naval, Om Puri and Madan Jain. The film focuses on the medical phenomenon called anesthesia awareness, a condition where a patient cannot move his body, but can hear and understand all that's happening around him/her.
The film is about a smart and suave young man who’s rising up in the corporate ladder but discovers that he has a heart ailment and requires a heart transplant. What might have been a safe surgery turns into a nightmare for the young man because of a phenomenon known as Anesthesia Awareness, in which a patient retains his consciousness despite being anesthetized before the operation.
The film has Adhyayan Suman driving luxury cars in Dubai and wooing a pretty girl. Deepti Naval plays his caring mom. Newcomer Ariana Ayam plays his love interest. Shekhar Suman plays the heart surgeon. The film depicts a mother-son relationship. It is a thriller and also a love story with a positive message.
Thus the film has Adhyayan Suman as Aditya Singh, Ariana Ayam as Ria, Om Puri as Dr. Sanjay Trehan, Deepti Naval as Gayatri Singh (Aditya's mom), Madan Jain and Shekhar Suman as Dr. Sameer Saxena.
The Soundtrack for the film is composed by Gaurav Dagaonkar & Fuzon (Band). The lyrics are by Arafat Mehmood & Irshad Kamil. The Lego Movie

Pictures, and starring the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman. The film is based on the Lego line of construction toys.
The film has an interesting plot. In the Lego universe, an ordinary mini-figure named Emmet is mistaken as being the Special (the greatest Master Builder who can save the Lego universe). With the help of an old wizard named Vitruvius, and a tough young woman named Wyldstyle, Batman, Uni-Kitty, Benny, and a pirate named Metalbeard, Emmet will have to unlearn everything he saw in the instructions and discover the power of imagination to defeat the evil tyrant Lord Business, who is bent on destroying the Lego universe on Taco Tuesday and recreating it as he sees fit by gluing it together.

Babloo Happy Hai

Babloo Happy Hai is a Hindi film directed by Nila Madhab Panda. It is a love story of today's youngsters, and what they think love and sex is in the times of multiplexes and fast cars. The film features Sahil Anand, Erica Fernandes, Sumit Suri, Amol Parashar and Preet Kamal in pivotal roles. Earlier, the film's name was "Love is not mathematics".
The soundtrack is composed by Bishakh-Kanish with the lyrics penned by Protique Mojoomdar. The film has songs like Babloo Happy Hai, Banjaran, Jimmy Bhand, Bade Bade Akshar, Nachtey Raho, Popcorn and Uhe Baatiyan.
What's the movie about? When we love, we see no reason. The very essence of love, at its truest, thrives on the unreasonable. Babloo Happy Hai is a film that embraces these words, as it takes you on a musical journey through the breathtaking mountains, and through the lives of a set of memorable characters who will make you think again about love, and fall in love with love itself. It is a story set in the fast-paced times we live in today, concerning those who are forced to move the fastest - our youth. Amidst the common notions of irreverence and rebellion, the youth of today is troubled by many questions, puzzled by many choices, battling with a lot of pressures; wandering perhaps, but not entirely lost. The most basic of these conflicts, however, remains the question of love.
The film begins in the posh neighbourhoods of the capital, New Delhi, where 24 year old Jatin is planning a road trip up north with his buddies Harvinder (a.k.a. Harry) and Rohan. For Jatin, the endearing young groom-to-be, this could be the last such youthful indulgence before he gets tied down (quite literally) by bride-to-be Tamanna, who is a bratty, high society number, gleefully building on her idea of a 'perfect' life starting with a 'perfect' wedding . While the hardly-perfect Jatin's 'love' is one of much labour, Harry's hopeless quest for love (or something like it) lands the happy-go-lucky Sardar in positions he had only dreamt of. Rohan, usually the voice of reason amongst the three, is going through a rough patch with his long-time boyfriend, and hopes to get some much needed fresh air and good old guy fun with his buddies in the mountains.
Enter, the wild child; Natasha. The prodigal daughter of this tale, who kick-starts it all with (what Jatin assumes is) a one-night stand after the bachelor party, followed by numerous meetings; some coincidental, others deliberate, driving our hero deeper into a dilemma between 'duty' and 'love' that only gets worse as there are revelations that leave everyone stunned. Completing this intricate picture, are Deepa and Harsh, a good-humoured, dynamic couple in their mid-thirties, much in love, with much to teach this young bunch, who in turn not only adore and admire the two, but even envy how perfectly they complement each other as companions.

The story draws to a climax when Jatin comes face to face with a secret that Natasha has been battling for a while.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Hate crimes should stop' that was published in Newsband

Hate crimes should stop
Why does a man harbor prejudice against those who appear different? What was the reason for the murder of Nido Tania, 19, a college student hailing from Arunachal Pradesh. He died of possible internal injuries after being thrashed by shopkeepers at a busy market in South Delhi.
Such hate crimes should stop. Even after the world has advanced so much we have certain people displaying racist and discriminatory attitudes. Complexion, appearance or even the colour of one’s hair or style of clothing is sufficient to invite indecorous comments, provocative taunts, character assassination and questioning of morality of the person concerned.
In the matter of Nido Tania murder case, the solution to such a problem lies not in the domain of law-making, but in the heart of society itself. Such racist attitude on the part of citizen of Delhi is very unfortunate. Such conflicts between non-local and local citizens of any locality should come to a stop not only in India but globally.
Are we becoming a nation of intolerant persons? By committing hate crimes we are sowing the seeds of dissension. If the police refuse to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice, we will be putting our pluralistic structure of our country, of which we are so proud, in real danger. It is high time the Government implemented police reforms as most of the policemen are untrained and insensitive to the needs of the aggrieved persons.
Prejudice which causes unfair treatment is called discrimination, and in many cases discrimination can be illegal. Prejudices and discrimination can result in serious problems for both the people: those who harbour them and those they are prejudiced against.
Most people who discriminate against a group do so because of upbringing or societal reasons. However, some prejudices are due to a bad experience with a certain person or a traumatic life event that has caused an individual to stereotype an entire group. Many prejudices develop from fears or misunderstanding of a certain culture or race.
The problem lies with the police also. Policing and swift action in applying the law and apprehending the accused should be ensured. Whether it's a crime of hate, passion or perverseness the police do not act decisively and the blame could be placed on the Home Ministry. The police should clean up their stables and refuse to bow down to the political pressure.

The death of the Arunachal Pradesh boy must be condemned as much as possible. The society needs to change its mindset and allow a space for those who look different and behave in a different way. Laws will deliver nothing as long as the society is adamant and refuses to tolerate the migrants.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'What is wrong with ‘Hindutva’ ideology?' that was published in Newsband

What is wrong with ‘Hindutva’ ideology?
During one of the recent events, Narendra Modi came up with a “rainbow strategy” of strengthening cultural and familial values, agricultural-rural development, women’s empowerment and security, environmental protection, youth power, democracy, and knowledge and skill development. He also appeared very intent on wooing sections considered as the traditional support base of that party.
Initially, he had given rousing speeches in different states of India, to make himself known to them, since the media always projected him as only a local leader, who cannot win over the nation's imagination. He successfully overcame such objections. But can he match the image of Arvind Kejriwal who is being projected as a messiah of common man? When compared with Kejriwal, Modi appears to have no plan or development vision for the country etc.
Modi comes across as an opportunistic man. If he is ready to tone down his extremist tendencies just for garnering votes, how can we ever trust him to take the right decision in matters of crises? He has recently expressed grief at the 2002 riots, tried to engage Mr Ramdev and talked to the industry about his 5 T's of talent, tradition, tourism, trade and technology which comes across as trying too hard and being too unscrupulous. He has been promising IITs, IIMs in all states which is going to be truly disastrous for the IIT and IIM brands  since the state of the new IITs and IIMs is pitiable. They can't afford any more erosion. All in all there is nothing different in him from the rest of the politicians.
At one stage Modi did make mention of ‘Hindutva’ and he was severely criticized for that. This is ridiculous. What is wrong with the term ‘Hindutva’? In a 1995 judgment, the Supreme Court of India ruled that "Ordinarily, Hindutva is understood as a way of life or a state of mind and is not to be equated with or understood as religious Hindu fundamentalism. It is clear that the 'term 'Hindutva' is still fallaciously associated with Religious fundamentalism as referred to as 'Hindutva rhetorics' by the Congress and other Parties who want to buy the minority votes. Negatively terming it as 'Hindutva rhetorics' is discriminatory. It is unfortunate that JDU and BJD, partiularly Nitish Kumar, should also join this band wagon, more due to being cut up with Modi's choice as PM ignoring their claims, a posture, selfish and against the true spirit of Hindutva as reiterated by the Supreme Court judgement. Knowledgeable minorities who understand fully 'Hindutva' and ‘be Indian and think Indian’ have no problem with this concept and terminology. Media should avoid projecting 'Hindutva' in negative light.

Narendra Modi, no doubt, has done wonders for the state of Gujarat, but he must understand that India is not Gujarat. He must come up with alternative plans for people of different areas and creed. He must understand what the common man wants and include it in his manifesto. Although BJP is having influence throughout the country but it certainly cannot win 272+ on its own. He needs to make some solid alliances with other regional parties. He needs to show the youth of the country the method by which he is going to provide them with ample career opportunities. He needs to show the villagers the methods he will adopt to boost agriculture and agricultural products. Most importantly he needs to show how he is going to boost the GDP by mass scale industrialization and make the Republic of India a better place to live in.
