Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Another feather on ISRO’s cap' that was published in Newsband

Another feather on ISRO’s cap
The successful launch of Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV), by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is a great news. Now RLV is a vehicle that can be reused multiple times to launch satellites into orbit. It will take 10 to 15 years, and several more launches, before ISRO readies a reusable launch vehicle for commercial use. This vehicle will play a pivotal role in cutting down by as much as 80 per cent the cost of launching satellites into orbit. In fact, ISRO is already well-known for launching satellites at a far cheaper cost than other space agencies.
No other space agency has reusable launch vehicles in operation, and ISRO has taken a lead in developing one. Learning from the mistakes of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in its space shuttle programme, ISRO will not use the same reusable vehicle to launch satellites and carry astronauts.
It gives an immense feeling of contentment as India is no more lagging behind other developed countries in terms of innovation and trials. ISRO's team is slogging in their own way.
Yes, ISRO must send its astronauts to International Space Station. ISRO should not work in International isolation in Space research. Malaysians and Iranians have sent their astronauts to International Space Station. India had lost 1962 war due to lack of Cryogenic technology.
ISRO technology demonstrator however proves that it continues to work silently for India's space program. It would be even more interesting to see how ISRO envisions the future of the program.
Kudos to Indian scientists for developing indigenous technology for space missions. The hard work for years paid off. Congratulations to ISRO for a flawless test flight which has validated several things in one go. At the same time, the success of this much delayed RLV-TD flight must compress the time for its operationalization. Another 15 years to wait for this technology will be too long as by that time Single Stage to Orbit (SSTO) would be the norm. We have already waited for too long for the cryogenic upper stage that has set us back by almost a decade. We are still unable to send a 4-tonne satellite to GTO while Ariane and China have been regularly sending 10-tonnes into such an orbit.
While one understands the situations that led to the delay including sanctions on Glavkosmos under MTCR, the trumped up spy scandal etc. national imperatives demand that we accelerate these nationally critical programmes. Sending a manned mission is not our priority but cheaper and safer access to space for national needs such as remote sensing, communications, security are.

ISRO should also recover and reuse the booster that launches the shuttles if cost effective. It should also consider two versions of the shuttle - unmanned and manned. The former should autonomously deploy cargo/satellites in orbits. The latter should be to ferry humans to space which is going to be more expensive.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Make people, not just the city, smart' that was published in Newsband

Make people, not just the city, smart
There are 33 urban agglomerations that have made a successful bid to become “smart cities”. Cities in India are yet to meaningfully address basic issues such as walkability, public transport, waste management and pollution. The 20 cities chosen in the first round are expected to spend Rs. 48,063 crore on projects, and the 13 in the second round, Rs. 30,229 crore. Intelligent parking could be one way to mobilise funds and cut congestion by integrating IT.
A smart city should look at robust IT connectivity and digitalisation. It is an excellent idea of government to make the cities smart but it is more necessary for the inhabitants of those cities to be smart before cities. Until the inhabitants of any City will not change their mentality or they will not behave like well civilized and well managed civilians, a city can never remain smart for a long period.
Government should make plan to make SMART VILLAGES with all the facilities including employment opportunities and industrialisation. Then no villager will want to migrate to city.
Urbanisation and technological development should supplement the comforts of ordinary people. The slum-dwellers are being evicted and displaced on the pretext of making cities ' smart' thereby giving impression that smartness is for corporates only.
The smart cities need people friendly civic services and infrastructure development to reduce transport congestion and waste management. The pivotal parameter is to regulate constructions in such a way that the rain water recedes automatically and causes no stagnation. The lacunas in funding perspective with private partners, performance of the contractors, people’s coordination and bureaucrats' sluggishness are the key issues for the city administrators.

Before execution the pulse of the people should be felt to get the coordination in the right perspective. Above all political intervention could spoil the soup in execution.

Then the 64-year old actor is shown in Mumbai, tirelessly paving way to the Mantralaya with the hope of getting some help from the government agencies but to no avail. The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys is a 2016 American neo-noir crime buddy comedy film directed by Shane Black and written by Black and Anthony Bagarozzi. It stars Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Keith David and Kim Basinger.
In 1970s Los Angeles, down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power.
In other words, when the death of a porn star named Misty Mountains—seen in the film’s gloriously funny opening sequence set to the beat of the Temptations’ “Papa was a Rollin’ Stone”—unites the widowed March and divorced Healy in search of another adult entertainer, the missing Amelia, the duo enter a sprawling maze of shady power structures and dead stakeholders. Along the way, they hang out among Dirk Diggler and Rollergirl wannabes in spectacular bejeweled garments and receive a considerable amount of help from March’s badass 12-year-old daughter, Holly (Angourie Rice), who possesses far superior PI chops than her panicky dad. The Nice Guys, on the whole, summons that victorious, innocent feeling of seeing likable heroes win while having fun along the way. It’s nice, guys.
