Criminals create havoc in the city
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: Crimes in the city are increasing day by day. There are all types of criminals moving around in the city but among them the chain snatchers have created most havoc. The other crimes are house break-in thefts, theft of vehicles, looting of pedestrians etc.
The residents of Navi Mumbai fear the chain snatchers. The city police just cannot control these criminals. These chain snatchers come on the mo-bike, target a pedestrian, attack and loot him or her and flee on the same mo-bike. This crime is committed very confidently since these chain thieves feel sure that they can easily outsmart the law.
House break-in thefts take place in large number too. The thieves target a house which is locked and which doesn’t have a safety door or window grills. They manage to even hoodwink the security guards of the society where this house is located. They manage to break the lock, enter the house, steal the valuables and flee from the spot with utmost ease.
The cases of fake policemen looting women or senior citizens are becoming common nowadays and the city police are just not able to bring such criminals to book. These conmen somehow are able to make out as to which person can be easily fooled and they don’t fail to target him or her and loot him or her of the valuables.
The city police receive various complaints about vehicle-thefts also. These vehicles are stolen even from the premises of the housing society which is guarded. These happenings are causing great worries to the vehicle owners.
There are many suggestions coming from various quarters in the matter of providing security against the above types of criminals. Installation of CCTV cameras at all the sensitive places in the city will undoubtedly help to solve a lot of criminal cases. Proper training if imparted to security guards in the housing societies will help prevent many crimes. All the exits and entries of the city need to be heavily guarded. This will prevent the entry of criminals residing in hutment colonies in the neighbouring regions.
The state government can also help in preventing crimes in the city by adding to the staff of the city police force and providing them with more sophisticated weapons. The city police should organize awareness camps for the residents of the city who can then be told as to how they could contribute in reducing the crime rate in the city.

If the government, city police and city residents join hands to combat the anti-social elements, criminals in the city will find it extremely tough to carry out their criminal activities, whether in broad daylight or during the dead of night.
