Agnels win the 1st NMMC Football for Peace 2013 Cup

NAVI MUMBAI: It was a time of jubilation for the Father Agnel School, Vashi when they lifted the first esteemed ‘NMMC Football for Peace 2013’ cup by beating Don Bosco School, Nerul 3-1 in a tough match at the Yashwantroa Chauhan grounds, Nerul on 2 October, 2013.
The above tournament was a two-day Inter School event for the Under-16 boys which was kicked off by the Mayor Shri Sagar Naik and he wished all the teams the very best. He also assured of all the help for the sport. The above event was organized by Heart Foundation and powered by the Joshua Generation Football Club with the support of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
In this contest, 28 teams participated and the finals was between Agnels and Don Bosco wherein the latter gave a tough fight but eventually Kasib Sayyed and Aditya Dhumal of Agnels scored the goals to help them win by 3-1. The solitary goal for Don Bosco was scored by Ashish Das.
Mr. Shailesh, Coach for Don Bosco, said, “I am happy that my boys reached the finals. Moreover this is the first time such an event is happening in Navi Mumbai and I hope the organizers will have many such tournaments for encouragement of this Sport.” The third prize went to St Lawrence School, Vashi.
“I am so glad that we are part of this unique event and being football lovers we will strive hard to bring up this sport as much as possible in our City,” said Mr. Kandaswamy Konar of Joshua Generation Football Club”.
Dr. Jayakar Ellis, Founder, Heart Foundation and the Organizer, said “Football has always been a game associated to peace all over the world and Mahatma Gandhi was a man who championed peace and non violence, so I felt that this would be a small contribution from our side towards both, the sport as well the Father of the Nation. I would also like to thank Mayor Sagar Naik for enabling us to fulfill this special dream and also our gratitude to all the NMMC officials who helped us in making this tournament a great success. We would also like to take up the responsibility of grooming the NMMC students in this sport and both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor have assured us the support of the same.”
“The above tournament was shown live on our web TV www.hearttvlive.com and would continue to be available there for all those who missed this event” he added.
The prize distribution ceremony was done by the hands of the Deputy Mayor Ashok Gawade and Corporator Sandeep Sutar. Special Mementos were given to every coach as an appreciation and contribution towards the Sport.

 “Our work is a thankless job and I am so elated that today all our fraternity have been recognized and honored,” said Sameer Rajput, Referee and Coach.
