Shell initiates Road Safety Program in schools of Navi Mumbai

NAVI MUMBAI: Shell India Markets Pvt Ltd, in association with the international NGO, Fleet Forum, launched Road Safety Education program for the students of 6th, 7th and 8th standards at three schools in Navi Mumbai on 2nd and 3rd February 2015 respectively.
The four-week activity-based training program is an initiative by Shell India Markets to spread awareness about pedestrian and travelling safety among children aged between 12 and 14 years. During the the launch at SS High School, the Chief Guest, Senior Police Inspector Mr. Vishnu Redkar stressed on the importance of being safe and said, “People need to be responsible for their own safety. Unless that happens, the road accident rate is unlikely to come down."
Representative from Shell, Mr. Milan Moge, said that safety is one of the top priorities for the company. He said, “Shell realises that students are the best messengers to spread road safety awareness in the society. This is the reason why we have designed a road safety program for students of this age group”. The dignitaries launched workbooks that are going to be used for training. The launch also included a Solidarity Walk in which students held placards with road safety slogans and took out a rally on the road. Yesterday, the road safety program was launched at Podar International School and Jaipuriar School in Navi Mumbai. Shell representatives Mr. Tony and Mr. Vishwakumar Menon were part of the launch yesterday.
Mrs Maya More, Senior Police Inspector, Vashi APMC advised children to write a letter to their parents citing safety measures.

Mr. Vivek, project manager India from Fleet Forum, project coordinators India Mr. Godfrey and Mr. George, and the Mumbai coordinator Dr. Jayakar Ellis & Marshall Singh were present for launches in all the schools. The training would be done by Jasmine and Sharon.
