Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Does a half Italian deserve to be Indian Prime Minister?' that was published in Newsband

Does a half Italian deserve to be Indian Prime Minister?
Congress president Rahul Gandhi called a press conference on the last day of campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly elections, in Bengaluru on May 10. BJP and Modi have no developmental agenda for Karnataka, he said. Gandhi strongly hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for raising his ancestral history during a poll rally. He said his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi "is more Indian than many other people in the country." His complaint was that 'PM indulges only in personal attacks'.
Gandhi, who has campaigned in the State for the past two months, said the Congress drew from the essence of the aspirations of the State people to create its manifesto. According to him, the BJP’s manifesto, however, was crafted behind closed doors and half of it was copied from the Congress manifesto.
Does Gandhi have something to his credit? Something exemplary, any vision or even a vision statement? A workable solution to any problem? Does he deserve to be Prime Minister just because he is the son of a Prime Minister? Doesn’t he need some merit to lead the country? Why is he trying to bloat and float himself on confidence of such people who believe he is destined to be PM just because he is born in Nehru-Gandhi family? What does he stand to gain? A quixotic pride?
We've been seeing the real form of any parties during elections since the last L.S. election. The pre-election preparation is measured and counted by how many low languages are being used in the election and then after voters cast their vote.
It’s high time the Leader of Opposition takes note of people who brought them to the opposition benches and talks about them. How long he keeps repeating the parroted portion learnt long back. India wants very good leaders in both ruling party as well as party sitting on the benches. Please raise your standards for the sake of your country.
In fact, both are diverting the attention of the voters. The question is why both have nominated criminals, crorepatis and people who have charges against them for misbehaving with women. Until they answer this question, they can both say whatever they want against each other. All those who read this will decide on the basis of the best person who will serve us better.
Congress and its existence is about Gandhi and his family. It is a democracy. His origin or his mother's does not matter a wee bit. But what baggage his family has loaded this country and most of the governments since independence is definitely points of debate. His family's ideas of secularism, socialism, dynastic succession to positions in his party and governments he appoint...each one of those ideas is debatable. He and his mother have exhibited no competence on even understanding concepts of governance. Modi may be average. But Gandhi is no good.
We have seen fierce speeches from person holding highest office not on developmental issues but on petty things like the place of worships. Lastly, Italians should not try to rule India.
