Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Beware of ecological impact' that was published in Newsband

Beware of ecological impact
The report of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is that human beings have so rapaciously exploited nature that many animals and plants on earth are gravely threatened. If this continues, one million species could go extinct, many in a matter of decades.
Unsustainable use of land and water, direct harvesting of species, climate change, pollution and release of alien plants and animals in new habitats can destroy the ecosystems. Nature provides ecosystem services. They are vital for food production, for clean air and water, provision of fuel for millions, absorption of carbon in the atmosphere, and climate moderation.
The humanity as a whole is courting the extreme harm by modifying terrestrial, marine and freshwater ecosystems to suit immediate needs, such as raising agricultural and food output and extracting materials that aid ever-increasing consumption, cutting down forests and irreparably breaking the web of life which will impoverish and endanger people everywhere.
The need of the time is to move from proportional equality to absolute equality when it comes to the distribution of essential services which nature provides us exclusively. Food, water and atmosphere, to illustrate, is foremost important of these services.
Our fights against so-called Terrorism or against so-called "Rogue nations" is defined by the countries who call themselves the World Police. They should also give consideration to Ecological impact. For example, world today burns almost 95 billion barrels of oil per day. This is the equivalent of over 150 billion KWH power (in Heat terms). At least 60% of these are spewed into the atmosphere, every day - that is a huge 90 billion KWH (heat units). This is just the tip of the iceberg that could be devastating sooner than later
