NMMC to improve
the infrastructure in MIDC areas
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has cleared
proposals worth over Rs 100 crore as part of its makeover plan for the MIDC
areas within its jurisdicition.
NMMC
plans to spend Rs 600 crore to improve the infrastructure in the MIDC areas. These
include widening of roads, improving drainage and solid waste management system
in the industrial areas.
NMMC
is relying heavily on Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik to help them in this
project. The NMMC authorities complain that many industries which fall within
their jurisdiction have not paid their taxes. These industries have not paid
the taxes since, according to them, NMMC has failed to provide them proper
infrastructures.
Ganesh
Naik has called upon the industrial units in the MIDC areas that fall within
NMMC’s jurisdiction to pay up their taxes and cooperate with NMMC.
There
are some industries who pay the taxes to the MIDC and they question as to why
they should pay again to NMMC. But NMMC claims that taxes should be paid to
them since without these taxes it will not be in a position to provide basic
facilities to the residents.
CM
Prithviraj Chavan has also intervened in the matter and agreed to reduce the
LBT with the hope that this might resolve the issue.
