Dinesh Kamath’s column ‘New movie-releases in Navi Mumbai’ (Gang of Ghosts, Ragini MMS 2, Need for Speed, Muppets – Most Wanted and Lakshmi)


New movie-releases in Navi Mumbai

Gang of Ghosts

Gang of Ghosts is a Hindi paranormal comedy film, produced by Venus Records & Tapes Pvt Ltd and The Satish Kaushik Entertainment. Directed by Satish Kaushik, it is a remake of Bengali film Bhooter Bhabishyat.
The movie has an interesting plot. The story is about a haunted house which is being pulled down and being replaced with a swanky shopping mall. Apparently, the ghosts who belong to different era consider this as their home so what happens later on shapes the rest of the story.
The film has Sharman Joshi, Parambrata Chatterjee, Mahi Gill, Anupam Kher, Meera Chopra, J. Brandon Hill, Rajesh Khattar, Saurabh Shukla, Rajpal Yadav, Yashpal Sharma, Vijay Verma, Chunky Pandey and Jackie Shroff and Paoli Dam and Aniruddh Dave in guest appearance.

Ragini MMS 2

Ragini MMS 2 is a Bollywood horror-thriller 3D film directed by Bhushan Patel and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures and ALT Entertainment. It is the sequel to the 2011 horror movie Ragini MMS.
The film starts off from where its prequel Ragini MMS ended which revolved around a young couple Ragini and Uday who went to an isolated house for a dirty weekend and the creepy and paranormal happenings that took place to them there. Uday had planned to make an MMS scandal of Ragini in that house. But the MMS shot goes viral, Uday goes missing and Ragini after that incident became lunatic and ended up in a mental hospital. The Ragini MMS scandal catches the attention of a filmmaker who plans to make a film on it. He casts a Bollywood actress in his film to play the lead, Ragini. The film crew goes to shoot the film in the same house where the MMS scandal took place leading to further horrible and creepy happenings.
The film has Sunny Leone as Sunny, Saahil Prem, Parvin Dabas as Rocks, Sandhya Mridul as Monali, Soniya Mehra as Tanya, Anita Hassanandani as Gina, Divya Dutta as psychiatrist working on paranormal cases, Karan Mehra, Karan Taluja and Kainaz Motivala as Ragini.
The soundtrack of Ragini MMS 2 is composed by Meet Bros Anjjan, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Pranay Rijia and Chirantan Bhatt. The film has songs like Baby Doll sung by Kanika Kapoor and Meet Bros Anjjan, Chaar Botal Vodka by Yo Yo Honey Singh, Maine Khud Ko by Mustafa Zahid, Lori of Death by Arpita Chakraborty, Maine Khud Ko (Reprise) by Kshitij Tarey and Baby Doll (Remix) by Kanika Kapoor and Meet Bros Anjjan.

Need for Speed

Need for Speed is a 2014 American action film directed by Scott Waugh, written by George Gatins and John Gatins and produced by DreamWorks Pictures. It is an adaptation of the Need for Speed series of video games by Electronic Arts. It stars Aaron Paul as street racer Tobey Marshall, who sets off to race cross-country, as a way of avenging his friend's death at the hands of a rival racer.
Following a two-year prison sentence for a crime he didn't commit, mechanic and race driver Tobey Marshall (Paul) is determined to get revenge on Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper), the man who framed him. To do so, Tobey drives from New York to California to battle Dino in a high-stakes race dubbed the De Leon.
Along for the ride are British car buff Julia (Imogen Poots) and Benny (Scott Mescudi, also known as recording artist Kid Cudi), the jovial airborne lookout of Tobey's crew. The movie then moves towards an interesting climax.

Muppets – Most Wanted

Muppets - Most Wanted is an upcoming American caper musical comedy film directed by James Bobin, written by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Mandeville Films. The film is a sequel to 2011's The Muppets and stars Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who produced the previous film, will return, as well as musician Bret McKenzie. In the film, the Muppets find themselves unwillingly involved in an international crime caper while on tour in Europe.
Disney's "Muppets Most Wanted" takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine — the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit — and his dastardly sidekick Dominic "Number Two" Badguy (portrayed by Ricky Gervais).
The film has Ricky Gervais as Dominic Badguy, Constantine's sidekick with dubious intentions that is posing as the Muppets' international tour manager, Ty Burrell as Jean Pierre Napoleon, a French Interpol inspector that works with Sam the Eagle on finding Constantine and Tina Fey as Nadya, a Russian GULAG officer who is a fan of Kermit the Frog.

Lakshmi

Lakshmi is a 2014 Hindi drama film directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The film deals with the harsh realities of human trafficking and child prostitution, which continue behind closed curtains in rural areas of India. The film won Best Film - Mercedes Benz Audience Award, for Best Narrative at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 13, 2014. The film was screened at various film festivals.
The film has an interesting story. Lakshmi, a 13-year old girl is kidnapped and sold into prostitution. Thrown into this horrific, inhuman world where she is raped and brutally beaten she struggles to survive with the help of the other girls and her own will to never give in. Director Nagesh Kukunoor was inspired to make the film after visiting some NGO's in India, where he met victims of human trafficking.
The film has Monali Thakur as Lakshmi, Satish Kaushik as Reddy, Ram Kapoor as Avinash, Shefali Shah as Jyoti, Nagesh Kukunoor as Chinna, Gulfam Khan as Corporator Radha, Flora Saini as Swarna, Vibha Chibber as Amma and Priyanka as Uma Didi.
