Overseas collaboration in the
field of education is necessary
Indian government should actively seek overseas
collaboration in the arena of higher education. Our government should go for global
partnership as far as Indian education is concerned. We should come up with universities which
will have the capacity to attract students and faculty from across geographical
boundaries. There should be a kind of cross-cultural and cosmopolitan spirit of
intellectual and cultural exchange. To
achieve this goal our government should come up with state-of-the-art
infrastructure and improved overall connectivity.
The Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has repeatedly
emphasised the need to promote the highest academic standards, as well as to ensure
equity in the recruitment and admissions processes. These are worthy objectives
that India’s public institutions generally, and those in the field of education
in particular, must foster at every level. The 21st century is critical to the
future of Asia,
and India has a big role to play in the
field of education.
Attracting foreign students to our universities will
lead to international understanding. Considering the economic status of India
today, there is no doubt about the fact that our country is capable of coming
up with a globally recognized institutions which can be on par with all other world class institutions
with sophisticated infrastructure and good quality of insightful education.
It should also be ensured that the graduates who
will pass out of such institutions will have no problem in getting meaningful
employment. The Professors of these institutions should be of the highest
calibre and the courses should be relevant for professionals seeking a wider
understanding of the world in which they operate.
Emergence of such institutions will not only make
every Indian feel proud but also these institutions will prove to be a souvenir
to the culture, tradition and scholastic grandeur of the nation. Overseas collaboration is definitely
welcome but it should not lead to the surrender of the soul and character of
the ancient seat of learning. This goal can be achieved by preventing the sneaking
in of any vested interest.
