Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'E-transactions – another great move by Modi government' that was published in Newsband

E-transactions – another great move by Modi government
Modi government has proposed to incentivise electronic transactions in preference to cash dealings so as to curb black money. This government’s new proposal takes a more holistic approach to the cash economy, and as such is more likely to work.
Cash transactions and black money are directly linked, since a cash trail is nearly impossible to track. As such, electronic transactions and the ease of audit they afford should make the government’s job much easier in terms of curbing illegal transactions. This government seems to be taking a systematic view in working towards minimising cash-based transactions. Initiative is laudable and is likely to give some positive results.
The media is also finally saying something good of the BJP Government. They were meek as sheep when the Congress seemed to be looting the country with scam after mega scam and policy paralysis but when the BJP government would make even a spelling mistake, they would ask the government to step down due to incompetency.
E-transactions is in fact a good initiative from the government towards reducing cash-based transactions. By making it mandatory to do all transactions electronically, there are a number of benefits which can be envisioned. In the immediate future, considering there would be a good monitoring of these transactions, there can be a huge reduction in the corruption cases being reported and also the people in minority will have an option to voice out their opinion, as they can have the e-statement as a proof of their transaction. Thereby, a better system with increased transparency can be observed.
This is a laudable step taken by the government as this move will help a lot in curbing black money. Transactions taking place in cash form are not easily traceable and thus black money can easily be created, circulated and preserved. Also, the government's move to go away with the e-payment charges is also incentivising. It will encourage more people to take up e-payment way and will discourage cash transactions.
This move by the government shall prove very effective in the coming time. Also, due to this act, all the black will slowly and steadily come out and more issue corruption related issues will be solved. Also, this will reduce the use of paper and thus the numerical value will redirect to the required issues.
The thrust given on making e-payment compulsory was long due. This marks a beginning, towards the end of black money regime. The various schemes and 'yojanas' laid out are in sync with each other. Assurance of insurance is given to Indians on a premium of Rs 12/- Rs 330/- per annum, it is a hallmark step towards financial inclusion in country. In addition to this, Jan Dhan and e-payment together as a whole, focuses on building a sustainable and healthy economy for the country. This is indeed a great attempt to make India, 'sone ki chidiya', once again.

While all these initiatives to be supported, scamsters always find a way out and do apparent legitimate transactions. We need stricter laws as well as no sympathy to those who break the laws. They should be blacklisted and whenever they need anything from the Government they should not be entertained.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'US should cut off aid to Pakistan' that was published in Newsband

US should cut off aid to Pakistan
LeT as the terror group in Pakistan continues to “operate, train, rally, propagandise and fundraise” in the country and India remains one of the most persistent terror target. India deepened counter-terrorism cooperation with the US as highlighted by the September 30 summit between US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Unfortunately, the US treats both Pakistan and India on the basis of parity.
US should use its economic clout to force Pakistan to mend ways. From the time when Washington ignored Islamabad’s clandestine nuclear programme so that it could enlist Pakistan’s help in the fight against communism, there has been threats to regional and even global peace. Only the US has the financial leverage to compel Pakistan to change its Machiavellian stance. But, the Americans appear reluctant to annoy its old, cold war ally.
In the wake of Osama bin Laden's death in a U.S. special forces raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 1, U.S. lawmakers have raised pointed questions over the legitimacy of Pakistani counterterrorism efforts and the viability of tenuous U.S.-Pakistan relations. A major component of this relationship is billions of dollars in U.S. foreign aid to Pakistan, much of it for security-related programs.
For US, Pakistan's support for a peaceful and viable settlement in Afghanistan is a must. Suspending aid would be counterproductive to U.S. interests, an abrupt reduction that would "jeopardize U.S. military forces." US cannot fight in Afghanistan without the 80 percent of fuel and dry goods shipped through Pakistan. A responsible withdrawal of U.S. forces depends on an Afghan political solution that Pakistan will influence.
America has cut off aid before, with disastrous results. They funneled millions through Pakistan to oust the Soviets from Kabul, but they later cut all assistance for twelve years under nuclear-related sanctions. After 9/11, they came back with primarily military aid and demands they fight the Taliban. Today, the Pakistani people distrust US as a fair-weather friend that supports military dictators.
The Osama raid was a wake-up call that it is now Pakistan's turn to demonstrate its reliability as an ally. Questions about how Osama bin Laden could have hidden for years next door to the Pakistani military in Abbottabad has put the conflicting interests of the United States and Pakistan on full display. As tensions escalate between the two countries, demands across the United States are growing for Washington to cut off aid to Pakistan. On the security front, the United States must admit that Pakistan will never give up the Taliban and will continue to divert U.S. military aid to its eastern border with India rather than its western border to fight the Taliban.
Unless the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan is meant to be permanent (which is highly unlikely), Pakistan's support for a peaceful and viable settlement in Afghanistan is a must for US.

Many Pakistanis believe U.S. military aid to Pakistan has been detrimental for the country's democratic potential. Some circles in the United States also argue that despite U.S. investment in Pakistan over the years, its military establishment is tilted toward China. Hence the question, "Why is US stuck with Pakistan?"

Dinesh Kamath speaks about himself, his Father and Grandfather

Dinesh Kamath speaks about himself, his Father and Grandfather

I belong to the caste which is called GSB or Gowd Saraswat Brahmins. My father is a GSB belonging to Mangalore and my mother is a GSB belonging to Karwar. Both Mangalorean and Karwari GSBs speak Konkani. But there is a great difference in the Konkanis the two speak. Mangalorean GSB knows Kannada in addition to Konkani, while Karwari GSBs know Marathi in addition to Konkani. There are GSBs in Maharashtra too. Sunil Gavaskar, the great test cricketer, is a GSB. GSBs are supposed to be very good in mathematics. That's why you'll find most of the GSBs working in Banks. If you want to know more about GSBs you can get those information from the Googles site.

My family came to Mumbai for the first time four generations back. My great grandfather came to Mumbai and settled over here. His son, who is my grandfather, did wonders. Before he reached the age of thirty he possessed a huge chain of hotels. They were quite decent hotels (not ordinary types). I was told that he possessed more than eight hotels and he was so generous that he gifted (free of cost) a couple of hotels to his sisters. But the poor chap died at a very young age of thirty four. He died of Tuberculosis which those days was like cancer (incurable ailment). After his death, his hotels were all grabbed by God-knows-who and his wife and three small children were left with not even a single hotel. I was told that he possessed all these hotels in a region called Phanaswadi which I think is somewhere near Girgaon. Had my grandfather lived for two decades more my family would have been owners of chains of five-star hotels today. But what has happened has happened. There is no point in brooding over the past.

Now I'll tell you something about my dad. My dad was a customs officer when I was born. I still remember the white uniforms he would wear and proudly go all the way to his office at Ballard Estate from his residence at Bandra. Today we find custom officers feeling shy to come in uniforms in front of the public. God knows why! My dad was transferred to Goa Customs somewhere in the year 1964. He was many a times the part of the squads who did seizures of contraband goods. I know about this because I would constantly read my dad's name in the Goan newspapers. My father impressed all his superiors with his intelligence, honesty and devotion towards his duty. When he returned to Mumbai in 1970 he was straightaway appointed as superintendent in Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). He missed to be Assistant Commissioner of Customs owing to his untimely demise. This DRI is the department where only special officers of Customs and Excise are deputed. No ordinary officer gets entry in this powerful department. It was while working for DRI that my dad got the opportunity ot handle Haji Mastan's case. Haji Mastan, for your information, was the most dreaded smuggler of those days. He was the man who two decades later was going to be succeeded by Dawood Ibrahim. Even in DRI my dad cracked many cases, made many seizures and even detentions. He expired in 1982. But just before he expired he had received the news that he was the recipient of President of India Award for the year 1982 for the meritorious service he rendered to the department of Customs for 33 years. That was the proudest moment for him. But unfortunately he could not survive to receive personally the prestigious award. The award was received by my mother whom I accompanied to Delhi. My mom received the award at the grand function held at Vigyan Bhavan and the award was given by the hands of then Finance Minister and current President of India Pranab Mukherjee. It was at that time that all the winners of the award were presented with the souvenir which described in details the terrific exploits of all the award winners. It was while going through this souvenir that I became aware of the fact that my father, during his entire career, had masterminded seizures of contraband goods worth Rs 4.2 crores and 76 detentions. My father was so humble a man that not once had he mentioned to any of his close ones about the magnificent feat he had performed.

I would like to pass on to you another interesting information. My father and mother met in Customs where both were working. They fell in love and got married. The result was my late brother and I.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Do justice to non-whites' that was published in Newsband

Do justice to non-whites
The gun attack killed nine black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina.  This is racism at its worst. The election of Barack Obama as the first black President of the country in 2008 had raised hopes about the dawn of a post-racial era. But African-Americans are still being frequently targeted.
The American polity claims to cherish freedom and fairness. “The policeman of the world”, which invaded two nations to keep Americans “safe” from terrorists, is seen to be clueless on how to deal with home-grown terrorism. No doubt America has shown its humanity to world either by helping countries for fighting epidemic like ebola or by fighting Terrorism in Islamic states but in between these events it has ignored its homegrown racism.
What makes it more lethal here are the country’s gun laws. The Obama administration’s attempts to bring in stricter gun laws have failed in Congress despite a number of mass shooting incidents in recent years. Unsurprisingly, Obama has now renewed his calls for stricter gun laws.
Both whites and blacks in America have inherited forcefully occupied lands from native Americans. The whites came from Europe while blacks brought from Africa. So they should learn to co-exist and whites should not claim exclusive rights over others.
Obama government need to take some bold steps and remove these remained societal flaws. Also it need to change its lethal Gun laws which are half responsible for such crimes.
When American Journals and President are bothered more about minority in India, they appear to be least concerned about their black people being killed by their white people due to racial discrimination. Let America learn how to treat their black people on humanitarian ground before advising others.
By the way, why some Indians are hell bent on something happened in America. USA has moved on and it is best country for all races compared to India. USA learns from the mistake and moves on, India does not. Indians who live in USA know it. Bigotry, Racism, discrimination - all exists in one form or the other in every country. US is one of the most integrated societies (that is probably why more people like to go to US than any other country and that is a fact). Try integration in Saudi Arabia or China. There is probably nothing to integrate.

In the meantime US should do something drastic about Racism and guns which are the twin pathological failures of the American system. It has to tackle urgently these challenges, politically and legally. Else, no force would be able to halt the decay of moral fabric in the country" The world is clearly divided into a European Class (Westerners) and Non-European class. All of us (non-Westerners in more than 150 Countries) in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Island nations are second-class humans to the westerners. This is evident in the manner in which the NATO and other Groups led by the USA belittle all others and decide things unilaterally favoring themselves on all world matters. Will this change?

Dinesh Kamath’s column ‘New movies released in Navi Mumbai’ (Pitch Perfect 2, Inside Out, Bezubaan Ishq, Insidious Chapter 3, Miss Tanakur Haazir Ho, Bangistan and Vincent Van Gogh - A new way of seeing) that was published in Newsband

New movie releases in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect 2 is a 2015 American musical comedy film produced and directed by Elizabeth Banks and written by Kay Cannon. It is a sequel to the 2012 film Pitch Perfect, which was loosely adapted from Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book, titled Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory. The film centers on the fictional Barden University and The Bellas, an-all female a capella singing group. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee, Ester Dean, Chrissie Fit, Kelley Jakle, and Shelley Regner as The Bellas.
The movie has an interesting story. Disgraced and barred from competing in nationals, our harmonizing heroines the Barden Bellas find a loophole that allows them to enter the upcoming world competition in Copenhagen instead. But lo, there be obstacles. Among them, the Teutonic menace known as Das Sound Machine — a troupe of towering Germans who sing like angels and dress like sex-club Sprockets —a nd the divided attention of de facto Bellas leader Beca (Anna Kendrick), who is secretly interning for a high-strung music producer (Key & Peele’s excellently mean Keegan-Michael Key).

Inside Out

Inside Out is a 2015 American 3D computer-animated fantasy comedy-drama film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Pete Docter, the film is set in the mind of a young girl, Riley Anderson (Kaitlyn Dias), where five personified emotions — Joy (Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) — try to lead her through life as she moves with her parents (Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan) to a new city. The film was co-directed by Ronnie del Carmen and produced by Jonas Rivera, with music composed by Michael Giacchino.
Docter first began developing Inside Out in 2009 after noticing changes in his daughter's personality as she grew older. The film's producers consulted numerous psychologists and researched the mind in preparation for building its story. Initial drafts were unsatisfactory, and the production was revised significantly with the realization that interpersonal relationships guide human emotions.
The story goes this way. Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'BJP should modernize Hindu Culture' that was published in Newsband

BJP should modernize Hindu Culture
The Bharatiya Janata Party government has been striving to pursue a growth-and-development-oriented agenda with a firm emphasis on the economic and foreign policy fronts. It is using perfectly the Ministries related to culture, information, education and human resources. The choice of Gajendra Chauhan for the post of chairman of the governing council of the Film and Television Institute of India, and other members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to be members of the FTII Society is a welcome move. hauhan is better known for his portrayal of the character of Yudhisthira in the popular television serial Mahabharata in the 1980s. The Ministry recently appointed a number of Sangh Parivar and BJP affiliates to the Central Board of Film Certification panel.
The BJP’s victory in 2014 was predicated on its promise of overhauling governance to achieve economic growth and development. There is nothing wrong in BJP using its power to promote the culture of majority community of India viz. the Hindu Culture. It is a negative factor for the students or learners to fight for the appointment instead of putting their time and effort on their aims and objectives. A country grows on rising economy and development but one can't overlook elements essential in long term growth; culture and education and must be nurtured with care.
There is no problem in appointing RSS people on academic and cultural positions. But see to it that these appointed persons are rational lot.
Rational thinking should not evade the RSS persons. Kids should not be made to read that Karna (Mahabharat) and Lord Ganesha proved existence of genetic science and plastic surgery in ancient India. Also the kids should not read that the Taj-Mahal is a Hindu temple. Encourage rationality and not mythology. Talk about real great ancient Indian scientists such as Sushruta (surgery), Budhayana (Pythagorean theorem), Aryabhata (Astronomy and Trigonometry), Bhaskara (Calculus) and so on.
BJP should try to modernize Hinduism. Hinduism could be a good modern religion. It should move away from old traditions and practices that take into account a more modern human understanding. For example, we know about science and hygiene (from a scientific perspective), so it's not a good idea to have cows pooping all over the streets of India. Or touching animal feces or doing anything that is unhygienic. You can still show immense respect and love for cows without having to do all of these things. You could set up beautifully-decorated animal reserves for cows to roam instead.
Also, why do Hindus have to dress up the way people did thousands of years ago. We can still preserve these dress styles and use them during the holidays or something, but why people have to dress like that on a day-to-day basis?

Many Hindus are brainwashed by the customs of their religion. They are not given the right to question the reasons for the habits they follow. If anyone asks he will be treated as 'atheist'. Above all they feel proud to follow the good old habits so long. In India we have education only to get a job to win the bread; never to think deeply. It is high time Hindus tried to modernize their cultural lifestyle.

Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'BJP-led Centre versus AAP-led State' that was published in Newsband

BJP-led Centre versus AAP-led State
There is a battle for the control of Delhi between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government. The battle has intensified by the arrest of Jitender Singh Tomar, the Delhi Law Minister. He allegedly holds two fake educational degrees and he resigned hours after a court sent him to police custody.
The Central Government is grabbing every opportunity possible to put pressure on AAP-led Delhi state government. No one is in doubt that it has essentially been a show of strength against a political party that is determined to put an end to corruption. The governmental tussle over Delhi has meanwhile reached its zenith, and one battleground is the State’s Anti-Corruption Branch.
The residents of Delhi had and still have great expectations of a very young Aam Aadmi Party that very closely interacted with them and secured a historical mandate in India’s capital city.
The BJP and its puppet the LG are at it again with their unethical attempts to wrest back control from AAP. Clearly, brandishing fake university certificates - if the allegation is true - is wrong and unbecoming of a minister although it is a fact that the Law Minister was not obliged to have a law degree to hold his post.
This is not just a question of State vs Centre. The vested interests have converted this into such a scenario to hide their hideous intent.
Politics is a game of subtlety, diplomacy as well as back stabbing and muck throwing, the difference is in knowing what to do and when. Arvind Kejriwal is new in this game and his well wishers know that he will become wiser as the time passes. In the meantime if one plans to fight a war, one should be very careful of kinks in the armour. Kejriwal should be careful and he should realise that he is fighting a person who for 12 years was hounded by media and instead of becoming an outcast became the Prime Minister. Kejriwal is not fighting Sheila Dixit this time.
It is high time that somebody higher in the Central Government shows some statesmanship to intervene in the ever escalating war between the Delhi State Government and the Centre through the Lt. Governor. In the power struggle between the two the people of Delhi should not become the ultimate loser.
People of India see AAP as the only hope to fight against the fast spreading cancer of corruption. It is a tall order which can be filled only by a party like AAP led by a strong leader like Kejriwal.

Although it is sad that AAP has lost its claim of being a party with a difference still it is way better than all other political parties. Hopefully they will fight this battle and many more to come with more dignity and cleverness.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani

Hamari Adhuri Kahani (English: Our Unfinished Story) is a 2015 Indian romantic drama film directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt under the banner Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios. The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, and Rajkummar Rao. It is based on the love story of Bhatt's parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shirin Mohammad Ali and his stepmother.
The movie has an interesting story. The film starts off with the old, tired and worn out Vasudha Prasad (Vidya Balan) who is almost on the verge of collapsing on the streets of Bastar district. On the other hand, her old and weak husband Hari (Rajkumar Rao) is pouring his heart out to a doctor emphasizing on the fact that Vasudha did visit him wearing a red dress, something that the doctor rubbishes as his hallucination. Amidst that time, he gets to know that Vasudha has set for heavenly abode. That's when he visits his son's home to do the last rites of his dead wife… only to be shooed away by his son. When everyone is fast asleep, he escapes with Vasudha's ashes to be immersed in Bastar and not in river Ganga. But before leaving the home with the ashes, he leaves a diary for his son (and the audience) to tell the unknown tale of Vasudha. The 20 years flashback shows Hari leaving Vasudha within a year of marriage, but not before making his presence 'felt' in her life. Also to act as an everlasting memory, he gets a tattoo done of his name of Vasudha's arm. In the diary, Hari mentions about Aarav (Emraan Hashmi), the multi millionaire business tycoon and also an owner of a whopping 108 hotels! It was actually a love at first sight for Aarav the very moment he sees Vasudha, who works as a florist in his Mumbai hotel. Aarav gets impressed with her simplicity and selflessness so much that he immediately offers her a dream job in his plush Dubai hotel. After initial reluctance, she picks up the job. Love blossoms between the duo and they find solace in each other's company. Just when everything is going smooth, there re-enters Hari into the life of Vasudha. Hari then explains the reasons and the circumstances as to why he disappeared and why the police have mistaken him as a dreaded terrorist. Vasudha, who initially is mighty upset and angry at the very sight of Hari, then seeks Aarav's help to free Hari from the police by proving his innocence. Despite this being a tough task, Aarav takes it up solely for his selfless love towards Vasudha. While accomplishing the task, a very unexpected calamity strikes Vasudha which completely shatters the lives of Aarav, Vasudha as well as Hari. What is the calamity that strikes the trio, will Vasudha and Aarav ever be able to marry each other and does Hari overcome his selfish ways to help his wife 'unite' with her real love Aarav… is what forms the rest of the story.
The movie has Emraan Hashmi as Aarav Ruparel, Vidya Balan as Vasudha Prasad, Rajkummar Rao as Hari, Sara Khan as Naila, Madhurima Tuli as Avni, Suhasini Mulay as Hari's mother, Amala Akkineni as Rohini (mother of Aarav Ruparel), Namit Das as Saanjh Prasad (grown up) and Prabal Panjabi as Apurva (Aarav's friend and partner)

Music for the film is given by Ami Mishra, Jeet Gannguli and Mithoon. Lyrics are penned by Rashmi Singh, Sayeed Quadri, Kunaal Vermaa. The film has songs like "Hamari Adhuri Kahani", "Humnava", "Yeh Kaisi Jagah", "Hasi", "Hasi (Female)", "Hamari Adhuri Kahani (Encore)" and "Zaroori Tha".
