NAVI MUMBAI: K
L Prasad’s resignation from the post of police commissioner of Navi Mumbai had
to be accepted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who tried to persuade him to
reconsider his decision but in vain. But K L Prasad seemed to have been
influenced by extremely personal happening that led him to quit the Indian
Police Service.
An IPS officer of the 1982 batch Prasad will be succeeded
by Additional DG (administration) Prabhat Ranjan, an IPS officer of the 1983
batch.
Some sources close to Prasad are of the opinion that he
was unhappy over the manner in which he was superseded in the recent IPS
reshuffle. Prasad was expecting a much better deal. It seems his eye was on the
post of Thane or Pune police commissioner. But the CM appointed some other
persons to those posts.
It seems that those persons who in the past were
appointed as police commissioner of Navi Mumbai were never found to be happy.
They were always wishing that they get transferred from here to any of the
neighbouring areas. The reason for this is unknown.
Navi Mumbai will be posing more and more challenges to
the city police force owing to the fact that it will soon be having
international airport coming up here. Every new police commissioner who arrived
at this place has expressed his need for new police chowkeys, police officers
and officials, renovation of old police stations, quarters for policemen and
more arms and ammunitions. Only fulfillment of these demands can enable the
city police force to bring under control the rise of cases of chain-snatchings,
house-breaks, vehicle-thefts etc., said a local police officer.
