‘Songs &
Dances of North East’ at Vashi on 27 August

After its successful edition in Delhi, the ‘Songs
& Dances of North East’ comes for the first time to Mumbai to showcase the
best of North East India. The event is sponsored by North Eastern Council
(NEC), and showcases the region’s rich diverse music, richness of cultures,
colours of traditions and the sweet melodies of folklore.
This one-day celebration at the CIDCO Exhibition and
Convention Hall in Vashi, Navi Mumbai on the 27th of August 2016 (Saturday) will be graced
by Kiren Rijiju (Union Minister of State
for Home Affairs), Pema Khandu (Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh) and Mr.
Karma Leki (Director of Arunachal Pradesh Tourism).
There will be traditional dance performances such as
Laiharabo, Cham, Tripuri, Bodo, and Garo etc., and music by contemporary artists
like Lou Majaw, Guru Rewben, Omak Komut Collective, The Vinyl Records among
others. To give a peak into the rich folk traditions, there are celebrated
artists like Dolly Das, Mangka, Sofiyum and many more. The festival would be
replete with ethnic delicacies from the region, music and dance performances,
which will have representation from all eight North Eastern states — Assam,
Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland and Manipur.
