Is third front possible?

Nitish Kumar’s statement on the possibility of a third front minus the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party could gain a momentum of its own. This could be a ploy to deny Modi, recently named head of the BJP’s campaign committee, the further satisfaction of being promoted as a prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

JD (U) have little in common with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and the Akali Dal in Punjab. Kumar chose to hold up the possibility of teaming up with the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha, since both are uncomfortable with the BJP’s Hindutva agenda. Kumar could actually end up boosting the ambitions of several regional satraps who would like to be part of a non-Congress, non-BJP government at the Centre. Telugu Desam Party and the AIADMK could think of lending their weight to the new project.

But if you see practically, 2014 is unlikely to usher in a government without the involvement of either the Congress or the BJP. Kumar’s proposal is unlikely to go so far as to make a third front.

All Regional party chiefs are ambitious. Their ambition to rule at the centre for the sake of their own state does not serve a democratic purpose of governance in the interest of country as a whole. Moreover these leaders lack experience of being at international platform and also do not have expertise to formulate national policies. Their only one common policy is to deny power to Congress or BJP on their own.

Jayalalithaa had stated that her party will go it alone and her aim is to bag all 40 Lok Sabha seats. If at all she decides to join any political alliance, it is but natural that her party will land into Narendra Modi led NDA given the closeness of Jayalalithaa with Narendra Modi.

Can Kumar say who is projected as PM in the third front.? With a temperamental Mamata, power hungry Mayawati, eye-on-PM-seat Jayalalitha, is it an easy task to appoint a PM in the third front?

JD [U] should learn from past events. Kumar should know well that Third Front have to fully depend upon outside support of either Congress or BJP for forming the Government. In the past, Congress under Indira Gandhi did not support Charan Singh despite her promises and Charan Singh could not form the Government. Election was declared and Indira won the election to form the Government. BJP supported V. P. Singh's Government from outside and withdrew it because of Singh's plan to implement the Mandal Commission report. The Government fell, election was declared and Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated and the Congress won the election and formed the Government. Third Front enthusiastically under the leadership of Dev Gouda as PM formed the Government with the outside support of the Congress. Sitaram Kesari was instrumental to threaten the Government by withdrawing the support and ultimately withdrew it and the Government fell.

All these above events prove that third front without the support of Congress or BJP is not possible. Only Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party might succeed in defying this rule.

Residents are not happy with the way electric department functions

BELAPUR: The people of Navi Mumbai are discussing the functioning of electric department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The focus is particularly on pre-monsoon works undertaken. The concerned employees are more bothered about the salary that is being paid to contract employees working with the department.

The residents wanted to know as to whom the maintenance contract for electric works in Belapur, Nerul and Vashi are given since they find the work done not up to their satisfaction. When they approached some political party workers they were informed that the shabby work done was owing to the very less salary that is being given to contract workers with the electric department of the civic body.

During the heavy rainfall, electric cables of housing societies were found damaged because of some digging work. NMMC authorities did not come forward to repair the damage. It was the societies themselves who had to bear the cost of repairing them. These societies are now demanding refunds for the incurred expenses.

NMMC authorities don’t seem to learn from their earlier experiences. In spite of knowing that every year during the time of monsoon there are countless problems that residents have to face, they don’t care to undertake pre-monsoon works at least three months in advance. What is the point in carrying out work when it’s already started raining?

This time too one could see open DP boxes and box on electric poles. Ideally such boxes should be at a certain height above the ground level and closed, so that children cannot reach the open wires. There is danger of children going to school touching these boxes and thus becoming victims of mishaps, especially during rains. The administration should shift the boxes to higher levels from the ground.

A corporator was of the opinion that things can improve if the maintenance contract workers with electric department are given salaries at par as their counterparts in other departments of NMMC. The decision to pay the arrears to the workers can only be taken by the municipal commissioner, he said. 

A NMMC official said that whenever there is any digging work, the electric department is affected the most, as somewhere or the other the cables are damaged. He said to prevent this happening, the security deposit of the contractor should be paid only after monsoon. This will force them to do a neat job and there will be no problems during the rains, he added.

Introduction

Broadcast Journalism is the field of news and journals which are "broadcast", that is, published by electrical methods, instead of the older methods, such as printed newspapers and posters. Broadcast methods include radio (via air, cable, and Internet), television (via air, cable, and Internet), and, especially recently, the Internet generally. Such media disperse pictures (static and moving), visual text and/or sounds.

Scripts for speaking to be broadcast tend to be written differently from text to be read by the public. For instance, the former is generally less complex and more conversational. Radio and television are designed to be seen and heard sooner and more often than is a daily or weekly newspaper.

Broadcast "stories" (articles) can be written in "packages", "readers", "voice-overs" (VO) and "sound on tape" (SOT).

A "sack" is an edited set of video clips for a news story and is common on television. It is typically narrated by a reporter. It is a story with audio, video, graphics and video effects. The news anchor, or presenter, usually reads a "lead-in" (introduction) before the package is aired and may conclude the story with additional information, called a "tag".

A "reader" is an article read without accompanying video or sound. Sometimes an "over the shoulder Digital on-screen graphic" is added.

A voice-over, or VO, is a video article narrated by the anchor.

Sound on tape, or SOT, is sound and/or video, usually recorded in the field. It is usually an interview or "soundbite".

Radio

Radio was the first medium for broadcast journalism. Many of the first radio stations were co-operative community radio ventures not making a profit. Later, radio advertising to pay for programs was pioneered in radio. Later still, television displaced radio and newspapers as the main news sources for most of the public in industrialized countries.

Some of the programming on radio is locally produced; some is broadcast by a radio network, by syndication etc. The "talent" (professional voices) talk to the audience, including reading the news. People tune in to hear engaging radio personalities, music and information they want. In radio news, stories include speech soundbites, the recorded sounds of events themselves and the anchor or host.

The radio industry has undergone a radical consolidation of ownership, with fewer companies owning the thousands of stations. Large media conglomerates such as Clear Channel Communications own most of the radio stations in the United States. That has resulted in more "niche" formats and the sharing of resources within clusters of stations, de-emphasizing local news and information. There has been concern over whether that concentration of power serves the public. The opposition says that the range of political views expressed and supported is greatly narrowed and that local concerns are neglected, including local emergencies, for which communication is critical. Automation has resulted in many stations broadcasting for many hours a day with no one on the station premises.

Television

Television (TV) news is considered by many to be the most influential medium for journalism. For most of the American public, local news and national TV newscasts are the primary news sources. Not only the numbers of audience viewers, but the effect on each viewer is considered more persuasive, as described by Marshall McLuhan ("the medium is the message" in his book Understanding Media). Television is dominated by attractive visuals (including beauty, action, and shock), with short soundbites and fast "cuts" (changes of camera angle). Television journalism viewing numbers have become fragmented, with the 24-hour cable news television channels.

Local Television

The industry divides television into local and national. Such local television markets are defined by viewing area and are ranked by the number of audience viewers. New broadcast journalists generally start in the smaller markets with fewer viewers and move up to larger television stations and television networks after gaining experience. The larger stations usually have more resources and better pay.

Normally local stations typically broadcast local news 3 or 4 times a day: around 4:30, 5 or 6 am, 11, 11:30 am or noon, 5 and/or 6 pm and 10 and/or 11 at night. Most of their nightly local newscasts are 30 minutes and include sports television and weather. News anchors are shown sitting at a desk in a television studio. The news anchors read teleprompters that contain local interest stories and breaking news. Reporters frequently tell their stories outside the formal television studio in the field, where the news is occurring, in a remote broadcast setting where Electronic news-gathering (ENG) techniques are used with production trucks. Daytime television or morning shows include more "soft" news and feature pieces, while the evening news emphasizes "hard" news.

News jobs

News anchors (formerly "anchormen") serve as masters of ceremonies and are usually shown facing a professional video camera in a television studio while reading unseen teleprompters. The anchors are often in pairs (co-anchors), sit side by side, often alternating their reading. Meteorologists stand in front of chroma key backgrounds to describe weather forecasting and show "graphics" (maps, charts and pictures). Any of those people can become the most recognizable television personality of the television station. Reporters research and write the stories and sometimes use video editing to prepare the story for air into a "package". Reporters are usually engaged in Electronic field production (EFP) and are accompanied by a videographer at the scenes of the news; the latter holds the camera. That person or assistants manage the audio and lighting. They are in charge of setting up live television shots and might edit using a non-linear editing system (NLE) too. The segment producer might choose, research and write stories, as well as deciding the timing and arrangement of the newscast. An associate producer, if any, might specialize in elements of the show such as graphics.

Production jobs

A newscast director is in charge of television show preparation, including assigning camera and talent (cast) positions on the set, as well as selecting the camera shots and other elements for either recorded or live television video production. The Television Director (TD) operates the video switcher, which controls and mixes all the elements of the show. At smaller stations, the Director and Technical Director are the same person.

A graphics operator operates a character generator (CG) that produces the lower third on-screen titles and full-page digital on-screen graphics. The audio technician operates the audio mixing console. The technician is in charge of the microphones, music and audio tape. Often, production assistants operate the teleprompters and professional video cameras and serve as lighting and rigging technicians ("grips").

On-line convergence

Convergence is the sharing and cross-promoting of content from a variety of media, which in theory might all converge and become one medium eventually. In broadcast news, the Internet is key part of convergence. Frequently, broadcast journalists also write text stories for the Web, usually accompanied by the graphics and sound of the original story. Websites offer the audience an interactive form where they can learn more about a story, can be referred to related articles, can offer comments for publication and can print stories at home, etc. Technological convergence also lets newsrooms collaborate with other media. Broadcast outlets sometimes have partnerships with their print counterparts.

Absence of a Brahmin leader makes Modi the best choice

The mutinous Lal Krishna Advani has retreated, leaving Narendra Modi’s supporters to rejoice and glory in their victory. In other words, the conqueror in the Advani-Modi battle is not either of them but the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the BJP’s real ‘high command’. The episode left Mr. Advani, once beloved of the Sangh, a bitter man, and in his resignation letter he lashed out at the supra body for not leaving the BJP alone.

Mr. Modi’s popularity with the party cadre may have earned him the role of campaign committee chief but it is to the RSS that he will remain beholden for getting there. The next step, or getting the nomination to run for Prime Minister, will be more difficult for two reasons. The RSS has promised Mr. Advani a say in the decision. Secondly, the BJP’s allies will be more watchful than ever, knowing that what possibly awaits them is an RSS-Modi combination.

BJP is a political arm of RSS, used in its multi decade programme of creating a nation based on their idea of Hindu civilisation. Guru Golwalkar's "We or Our Nationhood Defined" is the Holy Book of RSS and BJP. In “We or Our Nation defined (1938)”, he stated: "The non-Hindu people of Hindustan must either adopt Hindu culture and language, must learn and respect and hold in reverence the Hindu religion, must entertain no idea but of those of glorification of the Hindu race and culture ... In a word they may stay in the country, wholly subordinated to the Hindu nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, far less any preferential treatment—not even citizens' rights".

The main problem here is Modi is hated by many Hindus themselves.  Why? Maybe because he is not a Brahmin. But in absence of a Brahmin leader, Modi is the best choice. After several decades, people are placing hope on a single person to bring real development to the country. Why are many Hindus so seriously against this person?

Modi is loved and venerated because he has assumed the role of psychological defender of religion and culture - educated and well placed people too find a spiritual reason to recognise him - he is succeeding in impressing the intellectuals too. He has turned out to be today's mythological hero that Indians love to have every decade at least!

RSS is a Hindu organization and its political wing is BJP - what is wrong with that? The BJP is not a religious party like the Muslim league - but it is Hindu majority party - there is nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is not to question the credentials of a party openly labelled "Muslim League". Why do you allow an openly religious party like the Muslim League to function?

So what if in BJP, the ideological conclusion is left to the Sangh which rose with "cultural nationalistic" ambitions? Isn't Congress, which proudly boasts itself to be the oldest democratic party, revolving around the "High Command" which mostly have no ideology on which its decisions are based?

What's wrong in BJP having RSS as the Head? Every political party, in fact a person is based on an ideology. Yes, some aspects of the RSS might be communal. But it is better than a Party like Congress whose ideology is not clearly known.

Saniya is a young, catholic girl living in a typical orthodox catholic family. She is enthusiastic and free soul from Goa. She loves nature and is free from the materialistic desires. Her innocence, naive nature and intuitive actions make her innocent.

Saniya is being pursued by her mother for marriage. Saniya is least interested and thinks that love should drive her to get married.

Anand is a typical metropolitan executive from the corporate world. Though he is sensitive and sensible, he is trapped in the calculative world of business. He is commissioned as a Manager in a Mine in Goa.

The film Raanjhnaa is an intense love story, in which Dhanush plays a role of local Varanasi boy whereas Abhay and Sonam play as Jawaharlal Nehru university colleagues. Their characters would be known to one another for eight years in the script.

First love in anyone’s life holds a special place especially if the memory is filled with the vibrant musings of the city that you grew up in. Benaras holds a special place in Kundan’s heart, because not only did he grow up as a typical, god fearing, shiv bhakt-Pandit but also because it was the city that gave him Zoya.

Quiet, beautiful with mischievous eyes, Zoya was the girl of his dreams. She was alike a breath of fresh air the first time he saw her on the busy streets, sitting regally in a Tonga. Thus Ranjhana is the story of Kundan, his journey from a 13 year old boy in love who goes on to become a committed, spirited young man, who’s experiences in life made him the person he is today. It’s the story of love.

World War Z

World War Z is a 2013 apocalyptic action film directed by Marc Forster and written by Matthew Michael Carnahan. It is based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks. The film stars Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a U.N. worker who must travel the world to find a way to stop the zombie pandemic that is defeating armies and collapsing governments.

The movie has an interesting plot. Retired United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) leaves his wife and family to travel the world trying to find a cure and a way to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and collapsing governments.

We meet former UN investigator-turned-house husband Gerry Lane and his family - wife Karin (Mireille Enos) and their two daughters.

Having settled into a domestic routine, Gerry's life is flipped upside down when a zombie outbreak sweeps the globe. With his family safely aboard a military ship, Gerry is coerced into flying around the world in a bid to find where the epidemic began and try to discover an antidote.

Shortcut Romeo

Shortcut Romeo is an Indian romantic crime thriller film directed and produced by Susi Ganeshan, under the banner of Susi Ganesh Productions. It is the Hindi remake of the director's own Tamil film Thiruttu Payale (2006), starring Neil Nitin Mukesh in the title role with Puja Gupta as his love interest and Ameesha Patel in a negative character.

The movie has an interesting plot. Suraj (Neil Nitin Mukesh) is a good for nothing youth, who throws his weight around his house with his violent attitude. One day in a fit of rage, he injures his younger brother, following which he is sent off from Goa to Mumbai to his uncle's house. Suraj chances upon a couple indulging in love making on the lawns of a golf course. He has this act shot on a video camera. He then finds out that it is an extramarital affair and that the lovers Monica (Ameesha Patel) and Ashish are rich. Despite Monica's offering large sums of money for the tape, Suraj refuses to part with it. His demand is much greater. He wants an assurance from her that she will provide him a luxurious life throughout his life.

Monica has no choice; she succumbs to Suraj's blackmail and Suraj foots his holiday in Kenya along with his friends. Monica at every stage of the bilking process tries to outsmart Suraj; the battle of wits is on. Suraj meets Sherry (Puja Gupta) a rich but lonely girl and falls in love with her. That’s when he begins to realize that there are things more important than money in life. The cat and mouse game between Monica and Suraj, and the way one alternately checkmates the other in every round goes on till Rahul (Monica's husband) hires a private detective. Does Suraj join Sherry? Does Monica free herself from the clutches of the blackmailer? Or does the husband punish Suraj? The later part of the story ends with interesting twist and turns.

The film has Neil Nitin Mukesh as Suraj, Ameesha Patel as Monica, Puja Gupta as Sherry, Rajesh Shringarpure as Rahul, Jatin Grewal as Ashish, Ashutosh Kaushik, Errol Marks, Meherzan Mazda, Vrajesh Hirjee, Mumaith Khan, Himesh Reshammiya in a special appearance in a song and Bhrigu Das.

Music of the film is by Himesh Reshammiya. Lyrics are penned by Sameer, Shabbir Ahmed, Manoj Yadav and Sanjay Masoom. Monsters University

Monsters University is an American 3D computer-animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Dan Scanlon is the director and Kori Rae is the producer. It is the fourteenth film produced by Pixar and the prequel to 2001's Monsters, Inc.

Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, and Frank Oz are reprising their roles as Mike Wazowski, James P. Sullivan, Randall Boggs, and Jeff Fungus, respectively. Bonnie Hunt, who played Ms. Flint in the first film, will this time be voicing Mike's grade school teacher, Ms. Karen Graves. John Ratzenberger, who played The Abominable Snowman, will this time be voicing a Monsters, Inc. employee.

The film has an interesting plot. Set about 10 years before the events of Monsters, Inc., ever since a childhood field trip, Michael "Mike" Wazowski (voiced by Noah Johnston as a child and Billy Crystal as an adult) has ever since dreamed of attending the pretegious Monsters University. Now 17-years-old, Mike is excited to finally enter, and begins majoring in scaring. On his first day, Mike befriends the nerdy and shy Randall "Randy" Boggs (voiced by Steve Buscemi), who has difficulty controlling his invisibility power. While studying scaring one night, Mike encounters an 18-year-old playful, all-brawn, large monster named James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman), who is in the same fraternity as he and breaks into Mike's room to hide a scare pig named Archie, who is the mascot of rival college, Fear Tech. After greeting each other, Archie steals Mike's hat and he and Sulley follow Archie outside where they have a struggle with Archie that gets Sulley to be in the top fraternity Roar Omega Roar. Mike tries to join, but an argument with Sulley leads to a rivalry between the two. The story then moves towards an interesting climax.

Enemmy

Enemmy is a Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Ashu Trikha, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Sunil Shetty, Mahakshay Chakraborty, Kay Kay Menon, Johnny Lever Mahesh Manjrekar and Yuvika Chaudhary.

The movie has an interesting plot. Enemmy is a cop action drama featuring Mithun Chakraborty and Sunil Shetty in lead roles. It is the fight of four daredevil CID officers, who are the best backup plan when in trouble against the underworld don, who is the root cause of all problems.

A thriller set against the backdrop of the battle between the Mumbai mafia and cops, Enemmy is the story of four intrepid CID officers (Suniel Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Johny Lever and Mahaakshay), who are entrusted with the responsibility of cracking down on the underworld and cleaning up the city by any and all means possible.

When the four cops initiate an investigation and manage to nab Mukhtar Memon (Zakir Hussain), a crime lord, everyone heaves a sigh of relief. However, the relief is short-lived and after a brief spell of peace, the gang wars start again, shocking everyone.

Deciding to up the ante, the dynamic political leader R.G, who had unleashed the CID sleuths, sends in a CBI officer (Mithun Chakraborty) to Mumbai to get to the bottom of things. However, what the officer discovers is that the gang-war is merely a facade to find out about a heist, in which two truckloads of hard cash were stolen from Memon, who will stop at nothing to get his money back.

The question is... who is crazy enough to steal from the king of the city underworld? Thus begins a cat-and-mouse game between the characters of the film that keeps the story line interesting right to the logical end of the film.
