Navi Mumbai airport project included in PM's fast-track list

NAVI MUMBAI: There has been considerable delay in the execution of many key infrastructure projects. Hence Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has appointed a high level committee to set deadlines for the award of contracts for such projects which also include the Navi Mumbai international airport project.

The committee questioned the prolonged delay in execution of airport project in Navi Mumbai. The committee will regularly monitor the project and submit a status report to the PMO. Since the PMO itself has set the deadline, there are all the possibilities of the airport project getting completed in a time-bound manner.

January 31, 2014 was set as deadline for the awarding of airport contract. The civil aviation ministry was asked step in to expedite the airport project. This project faces hurdles in land acquisition in view of huge demands by the local farmers.
