Mighty Mumbai had to bow down to Gujarat
Gujarat was not expected to win the Ranji Trophy since it was not a powerful team. It was an underdog. All were surprised when Parthiv Patel’s side made the final. In the final match, Gujarat had to face Mumbai, a 41-time champion. The stunning news is Gujarat beat Mumbai in the final match.
Gujarat had won its maiden national title, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Twenty20), in 2012-13 and regained it in 2014-15. It then claimed its first domestic 50-over title, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, last season. These breakthroughs gave them the confidence they needed to win the Ranji Trophy.
Parthiv led by example right through, saving his finest for the tournament’s most important moment. His 143 in the fourth innings against Mumbai impressed all. Opener Priyank Panchal provided the batting spine, topping the Ranji table with 1310 runs, while fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah and left-arm spinner Axar Patel added a cutting edge to the bowling.
Defeat of Mumbai by a relatively weaker team in the trophy shows the perseverance and grit shown by the team. Gujarat deserves to be the winners with their brave performance.
Parthiv Patel, the tiny captain of Gujarat team, was the fulcrum around whom the Gujarat Cricket Team revolved and achieved the feat of winning Ranji trophy by defeating the 41 time champion Mumbai. The concerted effort of the team under the tiny master Parthiv, also with his blade for a century, brought the laurrels.

When all the eleven players play for the team rather to impress with their own performances, one cannot prevent the team from winning. Above all the passion of the skipper for a soft captaincy to get the maximum performance from his boys is the mantra for success. Partiv is a successful skipper and keeper.
