Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Rafale deal a non-issue?' that was published in Newsband

Rafale deal a non-issue?
Union Minister Piyush Goyal at a press conference in Mumbai said that the controversies surrounding the Rafale deal is a non-issue for the Indian voter who is likely to retain full faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. He said in the wake of the fresh revelations on “parallel negotiations” by the PMO in the €7.87 billion deal.
The Opposition allege that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had consistently undermined the Air Force and Defence Ministry to benefit his “cronies” in the Rafale deal.
It’s interesting to see how the vote bank of the opposition parties have been conditioned. They would love all the details of the aircraft and any major defence deal to be out in the public domain for all to see, scrutanize and take stock of. These very people are the ones who refused to believe the Indian army when the surgical strikes happened, were okay with the culture of brokers/middlemen who made their millions in defence deals since independence. India will have no hope as long as these leftist-socialist minded intellectuals keep shouting hoarse about everything the government does, and distracts the government from the real day to day issues just to ensure that their leaders are back in power at any cost. For those attack and scoot rats, they come out with concrete evidence that there has been a wrong comitteed in the Rafale deal. Otherwise they should simply desist from causing any damage to our country's image and progress.
It may well be true that a substantial number of voters could not care a toss for the truth of the Rafale controversy simply because they are more concerned with meeting their own costs of living. What is also true is that a significant number of voters do not have great expectations from any political party. How this translates at the Lok Sabha polls remains to be seen.
Indians don't care if their leaders loot the nation. They are more worried about a Muslim doing cow slaughter. Just as Pakistanis don't care who runs the country as long as no-nonbeliever commits blasphemy. The Indians are not bothered if the government loots the nation as long as the cows are protected.
NDA government’s decision regarding acquisition of Rafale aircrafts has become controversial but still the government has ruled out a JPC probe in the matter. Citizen-voters wish to know the truth about price of aircrafts and other details about Rafale deal. It is therefore necessary that NDA should tell them that. In context of allegations made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi about the Rafale deal, citizen-voters feel that Rahul Gandhi wishes to use the said allegations to seize power but he is not at all serious about ending payment of commission in all defence equipment deals, which leads to corruption. Hence, citizen-voters wish that Congress President Rahul Gandhi should, assuming UPA government comes to power, tell them whether UPA govt. would reveal all facts about Rafale deal. Suppose UPA govt. comes to power after Lok Sabha election would Rafale deal be renegotiated or cancelled? People would like to hear this from you Rahul Gandhi.
One thing is true. The Minister is under the false delusion that all the people of India are myopic and his reckoning of the Rafale row as a non issue is purely wishful thinking and living in a fool’s paradise. How can Rafale Deal be a non issue to the people, when their tax paid money is doled out for acquiring the jets at more than double the cost as also giving the offset contract to inexperienced and financially crippled group coy of ADAG, when people are suffering from unemployment, inflation and other economic factors?
We may not yet have finally made up our minds on who to vote for. You may be a good man but make no mistake we are silently listening and watching you and other political parties too.
