Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'Imran Khan is the Hero' that was published in Newsband

Imran Khan is the Hero
Pakistan came up with a splendid decision to release Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. The gesture, which Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan called an offer of peace and goodwill, must be appreciated. Islamabad has indeed done the most decent thing,
The Pulwama attack to the Indian air strikes on Balakot, to attempted attacks by Pakistani military aircraft in Jammu and Kashmir, and the IAF pilot’s capture could have taken the subcontinent to the brink of a conflict. We should appreciate the gesture of PM Imran Khan.
Pak side should now follow up with tangible action in dismantling terror outfits and totally eliminate terror activities on its soil. Pak's leaders & army should stop fanning hatred towards India.
The Pak's measure must be used by the Modi Government to reassure confidence on both sides through diplomatic talks as a control measure to avoid any nuclear holocaust. The Modi government must take the first step as Pak is ready to come forward by two steps, as the PM of Pak said. The Modi Government should shun any political mileage and try to assure peace in the region by the direct talk by the two PMs, without the army general's intervention.
Even the slightest of opportunity must be used for the de-escalation process without any prejudice so that the common public in the border areas of both nations do not suffer. Pakistan must realize that the time for denial and obfuscation is over. Unless it begins to act on India’s and the world community’s concerns about Pakistan-based terror safe havens in a time-bound manner. The two nations could be back on the brink of war if there is another trigger. If it does act, it could herald a paradigm shift in India-Pakistan engagement and help fix its own fragile economy.
It is high time the large neighbours think of allowing India and Pakistan to develop their respective countries without any hindrance. Our pride is limited to expression only. Let us think of translating our hallowed ideals and way of life into practical indigenous tools which are far superior to those we were by force of circumstances upholding as superior. What is tragic is we know what is good for us we do not know how to unload into our life. We are clogged by ideas alien to our culture, our way of life, our native intelligence. When the West is realizing our values why can't we revert to the use of our tools more than adopting inapt technology totally suitable. The current space augurs well.
The gesture shown by Imran Khan to release our wing commander should be appreciated. It has opportunity for the both countries to de-escalate the tensions. War is not a permanent solution for any problem; only talk can give a permanent solution. Being a responsible nation, we should grasp the opportunity to de-escalate the tensions.
Let this be the beginning for a New Era that would usher in PEACE and Harmony. At the ground level, we all should recognize that the coming together of India and Pakistan to be on the same plane can generate unprecedented developments for both the countries and the Two in friendship could be great force to reckon with in terms of Potentials of Socio-Techno-Economic developments. The Two nations, together, could be the center point for (probably) solving the world's biggest problem: POVERTY Alleviation. Imran had been talking about this whenever he had been interviewed by Indian media, several times as he was shaping into a New Politician.
The welcome de-escalation allows the country now to focus on a peaceful general election, where issues pertaining to national security should not be the subject of partisanship. The next government could frame a comprehensive policy to deal with Pakistan, a blend of creative diplomacy and coercion.
