Complaints
of voters kept pouring through helpline numbers
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Telephones
kept ringing at the election control room just before the polling day.
Complaints after complaints poured in from the residents of Navi Mumbai who
were very much concerned about the violation of election model code of conduct
by city politicians. Most of the complaints were relating to illegal hoardings
put up by these careless and irresponsible politicians.
According to these
complainants, the hoardings and banners that were put up all along the roads of
Navi Mumbai spoilt the image of the city and gave a bad impression to the
newcomers and outsiders who pay visit to the city. The law did not permit these
politicians to put up such hoardings and yet they had gone to the extent of
violating the rules and regulation without fearing about the possibility if
their getting penalized heavily for those violations.
NMMC authorities did
take action by bringing down many, if not all, illegal election banners and
this did please many complainants but those political party workers who had put
up those hoardings expressed their displeasure and bitterness in many words but
they had to ultimately give in to the decision made by the NMMC authorities.
The other complaints
were relating to names of certain voters being left out in the electoral list,
some voters who were not given voter identity cards, those voters whose names
were not at all put in the voter list, and mistakes in the voter list itself.
The residents of every
constituency were provided with helpline numbers to put forward their problems
relating to elections and get those problems solved promptly. In spite of all
these steps having been taken, some voters could not get their problems
relating to electoral list, voter identity cards etc solved.
