Election
Commission comes up with more polling booths for the city

NAVI MUMBAI: The demand
for places like Panvel, Uran, Airoli and Belapur is evident from the enormous
rise of population in these four places making it necessary for the Election
Commission to add considerably to the number of polling booths at these places.
This rise in population is owing to people from neighbouring areas having
migrated to these places in the recent times since they were attracted by the
enormous scope that this city provides.
Out of the 86 polling booths
that were added, Airoli got nine, Belapur-17, Panvel-35 and Uran-25.
The number of voters for
the forthcoming Assembly polls was found to be much more than the voters who
existed during last Lok Sabha polls. The political pundits are wondering as to
what could be the reason for this tremendous rise in number of voters in such a
short period. The rise is much more than a lakh which is really astounding.
However, with such a big
number of new polling booths added, the voters will benefit a lot and will get
the much-needed relief. The Election Commission had learnt from the experiences
of the voters during the last Lok Sabha poll when the voters were found to be
more and the polling booths were not adequate to do justice to all the voters.
Hence, the Election Commission, to avoid the problems that arose during the Lok
Sabha polls, did a brilliant job of adding considerably to the number of
polling booths this time for the Assembly elections.
