Water
problem still persists in certain areas of Kharghar
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: Irregular
water supply is the problem faced by some residents of Kharghar since quite a
long time. These residents feel that the City and Industrial Development
Corporation (CIDCO) should do something drastic about this problem and end this
menace once and for all.
Either these residents
face a situation there is no water supply or there is supply of water only for
a short duration. The amount of water supplied is found to be less while the
numbers of residents who are in need of water are found to be much more
comparatively. Sometimes when the water does come, the pressure is extremely
low and it is difficult to manage.
These harassed residents
are fed up of the same lame excuse given by CIDCO officials when they are
approached with this problem. These officials always talk about some repair
works going on at the dams which supply the water to this area. The residents
question whether there is some understanding between CIDCO officials and owners
of water tankers. Is CIDCO denying the residents of water supply to make them
over dependent on water tankers and thus let the owners of these tankers make
big profit? Some poor residents find the price of water of these tankers too
exorbitant.
The water supply of
certain areas in Kharghar had been consistently low, despite other neighbouring
areas getting uninterrupted water. CIDCO keeps assuring that water problem will
be looked into and solved but nothing practical in that direction happens.
Now that the election is
about to get over, the Kharghar residents are just waiting to see as to who
will win the election and whether their problem will be seriously looked into
by the new elected member.
