Dinesh Kamath loved the
Bollywood Film 'Superstar'
Although
Superstar is a film made in 2008, I happened to see the film just recently and
I was totally impressed by the movie. This film is directed by Rohit Jugraj,
starring Kunal Khemu in a double-role, opposite Tulip Joshi. Kunal Khemu
impressed me to a great extent by his stellar performance in the film. Another
thing that I loved about this film was its story. The movie had a super story
and great performances.
Superstar
is based on the reality of the entertainment field. Life's essentially about
choices. Kunal Mehra (Kunal Khemu) defines the youth of today — he dares: Dares
to dream of making it big in Bollywood one day. Kunal wears the tag of a
Bollywood struggler lightly, as he knows it is only a matter of time before he
makes it into the big league. Until life decides to play a prank on him. The
entry of the rich, debonair, Karan (Khemu), in Bollywood as well as his life,
crushes all of Kunal's dreams. And suddenly the struggler is transformed into a
superstar. Public adulation and unwavering media attention, he receives it all.
What will Kunal choose at the moment of reckoning? Truth or dare?
The
film has Kunal Khemu as Kunal Mehra / Karan Saxena, Tulip Joshi as Mausam, Aushima
Sawhney as Barkha, Reema Lagoo as Kusum Mehra, Darshan Jariwala as Mr. Saxena, Kishori
Shahane as Mrs. Saxena, Sharat Saxena as Purabi Abhiram Mehra, Vrajesh Hirjee
as Mishra, Zafar Karachiwala as Prashant, Aman Verma, Anjan Srivastav as
Sharmaji and Sanjay Dutt in an Special Appearance as Himself.
Although
the film opened to mixed reviews, mostly negative, Kunal Kemmu's acting was
highly praised by the critics. It earned 6 crores on its opening weekend. After
two weeks of running in theaters, it grossed 13 crores all together.
I
personally loved the film a lot and am looking forward to watching it once again. You
too watch the film!
