India will
benefit if Hillary Clinton becomes US President
Hillary Clinton
has been nominated by Democratic Party as its
candidate for the U.S. presidential
election. This is a moment of pride for both the Democratic Party and Ms.
Clinton. This is the first time a major American party is nominating a woman as
a presidential candidate. Historical day for America as the Democratic Party
has nominated a women candidate for the presidential race. It shows in
developed country, it has taken over 200 years a women to become a candidate.
What people
like about Ms. Clinton is that she “understands” the concerns of the working
people and the need to invest more in education. Ms. Clinton has overcome a major hurdle in the presidential race. She
is in a better position to win than her adversary. Ms. Clinton appears to have
the edge over Mr. Trump. She got the most number of votes in the primaries. She
is in a better position to win women and minority votes than Mr. Trump. Ms. Clinton represents a more inclusive,
democratic and efficient America. Everybody
believes Ms Clinton is the lesser evil than Trump. Hence Ms. Clinton stands a
fair chance to become the first woman president of the U.S.
America needs
iron hands to deal with terrorism. At this juncture the USA requires someone
with experience in Government. Hillary has it. If elected, she has to build
consensus on major issues. The top rich have to be persuaded to be more
realistic. The rich are too rich and cannot contribute to mass consumption nor
to build industry. The professionals are not getting their reward adequately.
There is greater scope for improving the incomes of people at middle and lower
levels. Working women require support. The weaker sections of the population
require much greater attention. Greater immigration is required to balance the
human resources as part of globalization. Start-ups require special attention.
The developed world would have to borrow some of the ideas of the developing
countries. Consumption leads an economy to grow. Consumption-orientation is
possible only when incomes grow in real terms at lower levels and all over the
country. Hope Hillary will rise to the occasion.
Mrs Clinton has
a lot of personal baggage to clear as well including a probable perjury
allegation among others that could become the prominent theme in the contest as
the fight now starts. Free thinking people will have some reluctance against a
dynasty tendency in the democracy as well. There is much to watch in the ensuing
months.
As far as India
is concerned,
Ms. Clinton’s inclusive way of handling
Indo-Pakistan relationship is remembered by all Indians. For India, Ms. Hillary
Clinton is an old friend, she would pick up the components of the bilateral
relationship effortlessly. The key point for Hillary Clinton to succeed is
convince people that she can be trusted. More than any previous election, this is one where the world feels
almost as much of a stakeholder as the American people.
