Dinesh Kamath's Editorial 'The Gandhi family should own responsibility for defeat' that was published in Newsband

The Gandhi family should own responsibility for defeat
The Gandhi family is looking for scapegoats. They don’t want to own responsibility for their defeat. The Gandhis, Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka, were apparently shocked that the party lost as it did in the election.
The lack of maturity, egocentrism, and sense of entitlement underlying Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s response in the aftermath of the defeat are disheartening for sympathisers and a boon for the BJP. Gandhi called out senior leaders for not supporting him and resigned as party president.
Blaming subordinates is bad leadership; simply threatening to walk away in the face of a setback is irresponsible brinkmanship. Good leaders know there is only one way to go when pushed to the wall. For that he needs to hold himself accountable to his party persons, and openly so. The Congress today needs a strong leader; and Indian democracy needs the leader of the largest Opposition party to be mindful of the responsibility that the position carries.
Congress today is meandering without direction, visibly rattled by the monumental scale of defeat. The party has to do a honest appraisal and dispassionate self-introspecton on such a staggering loss. The party also has to ponder  as to why its party apparatus and media cell were so hugely  disconnected from the stark realities on ground that they never saw this Tsunamo forthcoming? It is also high time that the dynasty owns accountability and retreats from the scene keeping in mind the future of the party which is imploding at all levels.
in a democracy not only government but the opposition should also be held accountable. They are part of legislature & the legislature is accountable to people. For the effective functioning of legislature, opposition must be capable enough to put ordinary people’s interest.
Despite the Congress flailing and floundering throughout the election campaign, the liberal/secular media did its level best to help out the grand old party. It conjured up fake but magnificient scams and printed reams of intellectual gibberish on how the future of Indian democracy and secularism was "at stake" in this election.
But despite its all-out campaign against the incumbent government, it failed to sway the voters. Not surprisingly, once the election results were out it blamed the common man for voting "without brains". In its indignant response to the stinging verdict delivered by the electorate it made a scapegoat out of the "intellectual disabilities" of the average Indian and revealed the contempt and disdain it has always had for the masses.
Fortunately, with advances in technology and the resultant creation of the social media space, the traditional media houses have lost their clout. It is time to write the obituary of Congress Party.  It languished for long five years. It is unfortunate that so many competent young leaders of the party are scared to just come forward to lead.
Fact is that Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of policies of NDA & PM Narendra Modi has cost dearly as citizen-voters’ have responded strongly to his insensitive criticism of PM Narendra Modi by giving a massive mandate in favour of PM Narendra Modi and BJP. Fact is that there are now fewer and fewer takers for Congress party with its so-called secular agenda and vague economic agenda. Citizen-voters have rejected all empty promises: minimum income guaranty and all such things. It is time Rahul Gandhi and her sister make efforts to rebuild Congress party.
The fanatics and sycophants have been around and ruling by proxy, and now they are the very same groups who want to fish in troubled waters by blaming "subordinates" who have actually worked hard and but for them even this number of seats would not have been won. The drama of Rahul telling 'he would resign' is a cheap stunt. He Must Just Quit and leave the party to reach its logical conclusion.
