Will Modi succeed in signing peace treaty with Pak?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi behaves as if he could move India towards better ties with Pakistan without help from anyone else. What the Congress-led government failed to do for ten years between 2004 and 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its Prime Minister Modi seem able to do with ease.
The Congress is free to rue its missed opportunities, but what it should not do is undermine the efforts of Modi since he and his government are moving ahead in the right direction. The Congress, instead of being openly uncomfortable to the extent of criticizing the development of Modi seizing the initiative of doing something in the direction of thawing the bilateral relations, had at least been circumspect in its reactions, it would not have earned the distinction of being churlish and regressive. The Congress needs to be steered along constructive lines if it has to regain people's trust which is long way right now.
Modi has definitely stolen the show and has put the diplomatic ball in Shariff's court. Now he has to rise to the occasion and carry ahead the new rays of friendship by helping India catch the terrorists thriving in Pakistan. Both India & Pakistan are going to gain nothing out of hostility.
Modi needs the support of opposition leaders to improve India’s relation with Pakistan. However, opposition and Congress has been opposing his every move in the parliament and has paralyzed it for the past 6 months.

Whether Modi is the right man to claim credit for normalizing relations with Pakistan or nor, he has had the courage to do something that the Congress was unable to. Modi did the classy thing by stopping in Lahore. The Congress looked so unconvincing, when their leaders tore into Modi. It is time for national interests to rise above party's interests. Modi should sign a peace treaty with Pakistan next year and stun the world.
