Cyber Safety Week to reach thousands

NAVI MUMBAI: For the second time the  Navi Mumbai police commissionerate, the city cops are organising ‘Cyber Safety Week’ from 14th to 19th December 2015 for creating awareness about the increasing cyber crimes among the people of Navi Mumbai.
A variety of seminars on data security, IPR, social media, cyber terrorism, digital evidence search & seizure, Banking and Financial Crime and digital privacy, drawing competitions with CYBER SAFE – BE AWARE BE SECURE as theme of this year, are being planned for the week.
  “It is our endeavour to see that we not only call experts from the Cyber and IT industry during the Cyber Safety Week but also take their message of Safe living in terms of cyber security across to the people of Navi Mumbai,” said Prabhat Ranjan, Commissioner of Police.
 “We are organizing the Cyber Safety Week to generate awareness among the citizens & netizens so that they would be shielded from the cyber crime. Today Cyber crime is increasing day by day wherein criminals are anonymous in most of the cases. Innocent people have lost crores of rupees due to lack of knowledge of safety and security. I believe Prevention is better than cure.” said Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
“The first day of the week will be on Data security, for which, the police have invited Mr. Deepak Shikarpur as the Chief Guest and Advocate Prashant Mali & Raviraj Doshi would speak to senior officials of different companies” said Rajendra  Bhamre ACP (Crime).
The second day will be on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and digital piracy which would be addressed by Sonali Kulkarni, Advocate Hiren Kamod & Diwan. “Several people now-a-days download Bollywood and international films at home, which is a violation of Copyright Act. The film industry as well the Indian government are losing a lot of deserving revenue because of illegal downloading or piracy.
The third day will be dedicated to cyber crime investigations and the fourth the day will on digital evidence search & seizure. On the fifth day of the week, it would be about banking and financial crimes.
The closing ceremony will have Mr. Nandakumar Saravade as the Chief Guest and Advocate Vaishali Bhagwat would be speaking on social networking.  R Mahadevan, Bollywood Actor has agreed to be the Guest of honor for the event.
“Everyday we would be visiting Schools & Societies in different nodes to educate them about being Cyber Safe and Be Aware to Be Secure” said Sangeeta Alphonso, Senior Police Inspector, Nerul Police Station and Cyber Law Expert.
“We are also planning to distribute advisories, organise drawing competitions which will create awareness amongst the children too” she added. The 6 day program would be supported by The State Bank of India, Heart Foundation, & Pyramid Cyber Security & Forensics.

Dr Jayakar Ellis, the Founder President of Heart Foundation said, ‘Our organization is proud to extend support to an event like this one since it is bound to benefit a huge number of residents of Navi Mumbai”.
