FDA detect milk
powder racket in Navi Mumbai
By Dinesh Kamath
NERUL: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided Haryana
Milk Foods Limited at Nerul and found that there was a milk powder racket
taking place there. It was found that the company was acquiring expired skimmed
milk powder from Kolhapur and then re-packaging
it into new containers for export to Pakistan . It was labeling the new
containers with a new expiry date.
About
15 tonnes of the product which had been forwarded for export have been
recalled. Another thing is the company only had the licence to stock the products,
not package and label.
The
FDA has prohibited the export of more skimmed milk till the investigation is
completed and sealed the premises of the company. It was found that the company
also did not follow the necessary safety standards.
After
the inquiry is completed, FDA officials will register a complaint with the
local police station.
