Will CIDCO get
green signal from National Board for Wildlife
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: It was decided that the National Board for Wildlife
would visit the Navi Mumbai international airport site and find out whether it
would affect the neighbouring Karnala bird sanctuary. Two members were to carry
out the survey. But now one more member will join them in doing the same job.
The survey will be done on May 9 and 10.
A
report of this survey will be submitted before the meeting of the standing
committee of the board in June-July. It is very essential to get the
committee's approval for any project that has a protected wildlife area within
10 km of its site.
Visiting
of the airport site by these three members is of utmost importance especially
because the environment impact assessment report filed by CIDCO had stated that
the location of the airport was 12.5 km from the Karnala bird sanctuary. CIDCO
has received all required clearances and the time it will fix to start the
construction of airport is dependent on the report that these three members
will come up with.
However,
CIDCO is confident that it will be able to start the work on airport project
within a year.
