AAP versus CIDCO
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: City
and Industrial Development Corporation has collected a huge amount as surcharge
from Central Railway as payment for the Harbour line infrastructure and Vashi
creek bridge. This practice of paying surcharge continues even today even
though more than 20 years have passed after construction of those
infrastructures. This has infuriated some members of Aam Aadmi Party who
question as to why the commuters have to pay the surcharge when CIDCO has
received the full payment of constructing the infrastructures.
But CIDCO officials are now coming up with the
explanation that the surcharge is being imposed on commuters not just to
recover the money spent for Harbour line infrastructure And Vashi creek bridge
but also other infrastructures made in the city of Navi Mumbai.
Another thing that is provoking the AAP members is the constant
hike in the surcharge that is taking place. According to them such hikes are
proving to be burdensome for commuters existing among common people.
The
members of AAP are trying to appeal to the state as well as central government
to stop this practice of making the commuters pay surcharge. They are also planning
to stage an agitation and if necessary knock the doors of the High Court to
obtain relief for commuters residing in the city
