Skywalk at Airoli is a
victory for traffic department
By Dinesh Kamath
NAVI MUMBAI: The
work of constructing a sky walk in Airoli has begun. The construction work is
being carried out by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) just
in front of Airoli railway station along Thane-Belapur Road.
This particular road has proved to be a dangerous spot
owing to a big number of pedestrians having to cross the road. There is a large
number of accidents that take place here and traffic jams happen constantly.
The traffic policemen posted here finds it difficult to manage the road and
hence they came up with the idea of having a skywalk here and this idea they
passed on to MIDC which after considering the magnitude of the problem
sanctioned around Rs 2.5 crores for constructing the skywalk here.
The job of constructing the skywalk has been assigned to
a private company which specializes in building skywalks. The work might get
completed by the end of the year after which the skywalk will be opened for the
pedestrians and thus provide them and the traffic police the necessary relief.
The skywalk will be constructed to suit the space
available and at the same time to make it convenient for the commuters too. It
is not yet decided whether to have an elevator for the benefit of senior
citizens and handicapped persons. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and MIDC
are coordinating with each other to come up with a good job as far as this
skywalk is concerned.
Thane-Belapur Road is one of the busiest streets of Navi
Mumbai and thousands of people need to use this road on daily basis and hence
the skywalk is bound to prove to be a boon for all of them.
Airoli has a large number of IT industries owing to which
there is a huge number of commuters travelling along Trans-Harbour line to reach
Airoli station. Hence earlier the work of skywalk gets completed better will it
be for those people who reside or have their work place in Airoli.
The decision to have a skywalk at Airoli has proved to be
a victory for traffic department which had been trying to convince since a very
long time both NMMC and MIDC about the need of a skywalk at this particular
spot.
Thanka for erecting the skywalk in front of Airoli station however have you ever thought how will a pregnant lady climb those numerous steps in her eighth month??have you ever thought how will an asthmatic person climb on it..how will a hanshandica person climb it ..the height of the skywalk is pathetic.
