NAVI MUMBAI: Solar
energy is radiant light and heat from the sun harnessed using a range of
ever-evolving technologies.
It is an important
source of renewable energy and its technologies are broadly characterized as
either passive solar or active solar depending on the way they capture and
distribute solar energy or convert it into solar power.
The development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean
solar energy technologies will have huge longer-term benefits. It will increase
countries’ energy security through reliance on an indigenous, inexhaustible and
mostly import-independent resource, enhance sustainability, reduce pollution,
lower the costs of mitigating global warming, and keep fossil fuel prices lower
than otherwise. These advantages are global.
Phadke Natyagruh is a famous auditorium in Panvel and it
has been announced that it will go solar. The electricity cost at the
auditorium being too much, it has been decided that electric system in this
auditorium be replaced by solar method. The announcement was made by Panvel
Municipal Council which was tired of paying the exorbitant electric bill.
Those who wish to stage social or cultural programs or
activities in this auditorium just has to inform PMC which is ever prepared to
let the organizer of the event use it on rental basis. The thing is more the
events taking place in this auditorium, more is the electric consumption and
hence the electric bill to rises considerably. The electric cost has always
been so high that PMC had to allot a certain amount just to bay the electric
bill of this auditorium during the budget period. But someone came up with the
suggestion of replacing electric supply method by solar method in this
auditorium and PMC jumped for that idea and immediately called a consultant who
has almost completed the project report. The approval of this proposal to
install solar method in the auditorium is awaited.
If installment of solar system in the auditorium proves
to be a success, PMC will then try the same system elsewhere too like in
government offices, schools etc.
