Same promises made by all
the political parties

NAVI MUMBAI: Election
campaigning has come to an end. During these campaigns manifestos were
displayed to the public by every party. Every party promised the same things.
They promised to bring about improvements in transport system, provide more
facilities for city residents, finish the work on major projects that have been
undertaken by the city authorities and provide electricity and 24x7 water
supply to all.
Whether it was Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena or
Nationalist Congress Party or Congress Party or Peasants and Workers Party –
all made the same promises. All tried the same tactics like trying to appease
the people of backward class by promising them better rail services, proper
markets, libraries and hospitals in their vicinity etc.
Navi Mumbai consists of many cooperative housing
societies. The candidates of all the political parties exploited this fact too
by promising to offer more FSI to societies, SRA schemes and medical facilities
at the doorsteps.
The people of the slums were also promised better medical
services, education for their children and proper sanitations. Project affected
people or PAPs were also promised a better deal.
One of the senior citizens of Navi Mumbai said, “We
cannot be fooled now. We have witnessed many election campaigns in the past.
The present campaign was not something new for us. The same promises were made.
But the question is whether these candidates, after they get elected, will
implement their promises?”
