Modi government is doing a
great job!
The Narendra Modi
government has a lot to cheer as it enters its second year. Falling deficit both on the current account
and fiscal fronts, and rising foreign exchange reserves, both core and retail
inflation rates have eased – all these are the achievements of Bharatiya Janata
Party government. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has done a great job. It is
clear that better days are really round the corner. There have also been significant reform initiatives in the area of
foreign direct investment covering sectors such as insurance, defence, railways
and construction. Labour law reforms and relaxation of rules for investment by
new categories of Indians living abroad have all been quietly pushed through.
The successful auctioning of coal mine
leases and spectrum is another
achievement. Only the government has been unable to push two crucial pieces of
legislation — the land bill and the GST bill.
But one year is
too small a period to make a comment, compared to previous ten years of misrule.
Efforts seem to be in right direction. Why not wait one more year to see the
effects. The achievements of the government cannot merely be measured in a year’s
span especially after the UPA government had ramshackled every sector of growth
and prosperity causing the expectations of the people to die off. The new
government under Modi is resurging with full pace but what is the cause that it
still doesn't meet to the expectations of the people? The answer lies in the
simple human tendency of impatience and quick result seeking mentality. We need
to give this government a chance to breathe free and not levy our plethora of
expectations simply based out of gut-feeling. Grieving and lamenting over any
government that is new at the office simply does not help. Believing in the
reforms and strategies under implementation will surely bear good results.
It seems that many
Modi haters have still not heard of over 6 crore new bank accounts that have
been opened mainly for the poor and rural people. Or even the old age pension
or the concept of life insurance for the poor. It is good to be skeptical of
the government in a democracy. But that does not mean one has to blindly accept
the propaganda of the opposition parties that have failed the nation for over
half a century.
Our new PM is
working actively to improve countries economic situation like an able CEO. But
we need to understand that it’s not just one or two company. Running a country
is a mammoth task and no one can be good in running all departments
efficiently. Let’s give him his 5 year tenure and see where he leads India to.
