The Indian film industry is witnessing many top female actresses turning into producers. They are investing in risky projects and making them a smashing success.

Today I’ll talk about Deepika Padukone who has become Producer. She is the recipient of several awards, including three Filmfare Awards. She features in listings of the nation's most popular personalities, and Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.

Deepika made her acting debut in 2006 as the title character of the Kannada film Aishwarya. Padukone then played a dual role opposite Shah Rukh Khan in her first Bollywood release, the romance Om Shanti Om (2007), which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Padukone received praise for portraying the lead roles in the romance Love Aaj Kal (2009) and the drama Lafangey Parindey (2010),

Her appearance opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rohit Shetty's action-comedy film Chennai Express was greatly appreciated. She played Meenalochini Azhagusundaram, a Tamil girl on the run from her father (a local don), which required that she adopt a Tamil accent. This year, she will not just be acting in but also co-producing Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak. The drama is based on the true-life story of Laxmi Agarwal, a school girl who survived a violent acid attack by an acquaintance. Padukone says her goal as a producer is simple: “I want to enable films that need either a platform, a push or a voice.” This could be one of the most challenging roles played by Padukone in her 12-year-long acting career, as the story will span several stages of Laxmi’s facial reconstruction and explore the trauma of an acid attack. Deepika and Meghna were initially toying with two titles - one being 'Gandhak' and the other, 'Chaapak' (Sound Of Splash) which got locked. The latter conveys that the film is about acid violence immediately."

Vikrant plays a North Indian guy (Laxmi's partner, Alok Dixit) who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor then, started a campaign against acid violence, which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life.

The film will be on floors in March 2019 and will be shot in Mumbai and Delhi. The team hopes to make way for some songs in the film too produced by Deepika as well as Meghna Gulzar.
