Belapur Hill in danger

NAVI MUMBAI: Regular
forest fires are being witnessed on Belapur Hill. The activists are feeling very
much concerned about this happening. They have several times brought this issue
to the notice of City and Industrial Development Corporation. CIDCO does take action
sometimes but yet it has not been able to solve the problem which continues to
persist.
It appears that members belonging to land mafia are
behind setting of fire on the hill and the land obtained there after are sold
by them. Many residents of Navi Mumbai who pay visit to Belapur Hill have been
the witness to flames rising up the hill. It was found that the fire was set by
those people who intended to encroach upon the flat land created after burning
the trees.
The hill already has quite many illegal structures. This
fact is known to all but yet the authorities do not care to take any action in
this direction.
CIDCO MD Sanjay Bhatia had also paid a visit to Belapur
Hill and he personally had witnessed various encroachments and illegal
structures present on this hill. Bhatia appeared to be upset by this sight and
he also seemed to have been determined to take stern action against the culprits.
The activists have suggested that security personnel be
posted at various places on the Belapur Hill so that the encroachers and land
mafia will not dare to carry out their illegal activities over there.
