KAMOTHE: Two years of wait, determination and hard work finally paid off for the students and teachers of Mahatma Gandhi Mission’s College of Engineering and Technology, Kamothe, Navi Mumbai.
The team from this college, MGM ACCELLORS, secured 58th position at the national level ‘virtual round’ of SUPRA SAE INDIA organized by SAE INDIA an affiliate body of ‘Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)’ which is an internationally recognized body. SAE is US-based, globally active professional association and standard organization for engineering professionals in various industries. This competition is targeted towards young and talented engineering minds who have to build a working prototype of student formula car.
The MGMCET boys cleared their virtual round which was held in Chennai and secured 3rd position under Mumbai University. They could achieve this feat due to their perseverance and sheer dedication. The team is now promoted to the next level. They now aim to build a formula car and race it to its potential at Madras Motorsports Race track in Chennai in 3rd week of July 2015.
The students said that they are glad to have high level support from college faculty and management alike. “Prof. Madhukar Sorte, HOD, supported us from the beginning and guided us throughout the virtual phase. Along with him Prof. Shanker Gundre, our faculty advisor, helped us with our documentation part due to which the team could concentrate on the Design,” said Sagar Padhi, a member of system and Marketing Team, Engine and power train.
The junior members of the team were praised by the team leader and another senior member from the team. Nitish Shinde, member of Braking system and marketing team, added, “Being final year students, we could not dedicate a lot of time for this project but our juniors supported us a lot.”
According to the team’s plan they will fabricate the car and now are looking for sponsors to support their project.
Finally the team leader and design head Amogh Taraikar added “We, the senior members of the team, feel privileged to lead a bunch of hard working and dedicated juniors.” He also appreciated the support from the college saying, “Our college management, Dr K G Narayan Khedkar, Principal Dr. S K Narayan Khedkar, our faculty advisors and teaching and non-teaching staff have been supporting us throughout this project and now we are looking for sponsors to support us.”

The MGM ACCELLORS Team welcomes sponsorship in many forms. Direct financial support helps the team to purchase the materials and components necessary to build the car, as well as purchase and maintain equipment, pay for business expenses, and cover competition related travel expenses. They acknowledge the fact that the monetary contributions are not always possible and gladly accept any form of support. Such contributions can range from tools, equipment, parts, raw materials, expert advice and/or assistance. The car and team travels wide, and wherever it goes, the names of the sponsors too go with it.
