Plants to be fed by sewage water instead of drinking water
By Dinesh Kamath

NAVI MUMBAI: There are sewage water plants in Nerul and Sanpada and it is proposed that water from these plants will be used for trees on Palm Beach Road. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has come up with this novel idea to save drinking water and to prevent wastage of unclean water. NMMC might soon undertake the task of constructing pipes, building tanks and pressure pumps which will help in this project.
If this project proves to be a success there will be no need to impose on city residents additional water charges and also it will give a boost to the ruling party in NMMC in the forthcoming elections. NMMC is not daring to raise water charges since it can invite the fury of city residents and this in turn can affect the chances of the ruling party in NMMC.
Currently the waste water from the treatment plants would be allowed to flow into the creek. This was gross waste of water which could have been used for trees. Using of drinking water for trees by the city residents results in waste of such water and many residents complain that they do not get enough supply of drinking water. Shortage of drinking water faced by some city residents gave birth to the idea of using unclean water from sewage treatement plants for trees and in the process save the stock of drinking water.

The water from the sewage treatment plants can also be used to water the gardens which exist in quite a big number in the city. Even the green cover can be fed with water from treatment plants. Using of drinking water for gardens invites the hawkers around the gardens to steal huge gallons of water from the tap installed there. Replacing drinking water by water from sewage treatment plant will solve this particular problem too.
