NAVI MUMBAI: The voters are slowly and gradually preparing themselves to cast their vote on the right candidate during the forthcoming NMMC elections. They will be electing a leader each for 111 wards and these elected persons will represent them in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. They will raise the issues that concern the people of their wards in NMMC.
Once upon a time, water issue used to dominate in the discussions that would be held in NMMC. But today the residents of Navi Mumbai do not face any kind of water problems. But there are visionaries among the Navi Mumbai residents who say that rapid growth in the population of the city day by day can create water problem once again and just to avoid that it is necessary that residents of the city use water, especially drinking water, very carefully. Places like Nerul and Ghansoli where the populations are rising more rapidly than any other place in the city are experiencing more and more need of drinking water. Vashi and Turbhe are also places where outsiders try to migrate too and the residents of these places are also foreseeing the need to increase the water supply in their regions in the near future.
The NMMC authorities have cautioned the city residents of the negative effect that can arise out of wastage or misuse of water. They have also come up with the idea of using recycled water in places like parks and road dividers which have plants and trees on them. Currently there are places where drinking water is used for feeding plants and if this practice continues it can cause shortage of water in the future. Hence the authorities have come up with the idea of rain water harvesting which can help in storing water that can be used in gardens. They have also suggested using of STP water, that is currently being allowed to flow into the creek, for the purpose of watering gardens or washing vehicles instead.
It is true that as far as water supply is concerned, Morbe Dam is taking good care of city residents but what is worrying the NMMC authorities is the demand for water that is on the rise every day. Hence they have warned the 15-lakh odd residents of Navi Mumbai that judicious use of water is the need of today. The authorities have also issued orders to the NMMC officials to attend to water leakage problems in the city promptly and to see to it that water is used carefully by one and all.
NMMC is praised by the people of neighbouring corporations for maintaining their record of supplying water 24x7 to the people residing within their jurisdiction.
